"The only zoo in the Bahamas started as a tropical garden and nature preserve in the 1950s. Over the years, Ardastra evolved, adding a conservation center for Caribbean flamingos and a small zoo containingbirds, reptiles, and mammals. The four-acre zoo is filled with the colors and fragrances of its tropical gardens, which feature paths through thetamarind, West Indies mahogany, and Indian tuliptrees, amid the abundant blooms of yellow elder, the national flower of the Bahamas, and frangipani. Visitors can see flamingos, iguanas, and lemurs, while enjoying interactive experiences like feeding the rainbow lorikeets and playing with the rabbits in the petting zoo."

I went to the Bahamas in January of this year and am now trying to get caught up posting my pictures of various places with reviews. I would recommend anyone visiting Nassau to checkout this well-kept conservatory as a point of interest. I found it to be a very charming, tranquil garden, that is filled with lush greenery, vibrant flowers, exotic birds and other animals that I did not post pictures of. 😀 You have to go see for yourself!

Disappointing and Concerning Visit I left Ardastra Gardens feeling deeply troubled. Many of the animals did not appear well cared for. I just keep thinking about this poor parrot sitting in its own feces, with broken perches lying inside the enclosure. In that same habitat, the bird was screaming nonstop, and I noticed loose screws that could easily injure him. It was heartbreaking. Right next to him, another parrot was nearly attacking visitors and clearly seemed distressed by the presence of the Disney Cruise Line group. It really makes you wonder how Disney can support a facility where animals are left in their own excrement and exposed to such poor conditions. No one was there to speak with us or offer any information. It seems like the staff only focus on large tour groups, which must be their priority, but if you come on your own, you’re left completely on your own and very poorly welcomed. Also, the waiver at the entrance makes no sense. They ask you to fill it out, but no one checks the names or verifies anything anyway. Even the flamingo show, which could have been charming, felt chaotic. If you pay close attention, the zookeeper seemed unsure of what he was doing. He was chasing the birds around rather than guiding them calmly. This is not a conservation center. It does not reflect genuine care or respect for the animals. I cannot recommend supporting this place. Very disappointing.

This place has some cool animals but could use some others. Overall its okay if you’re just looking for something to do with family or kids. You'd have to look really closely to see the birds in my photos.

Ardastra Gardens was fun. The flamingo show was interesting. It place is a good size but smal enough to see everything without getting tired. I wish there was a guided tour.

This place is a gem. Its a garden and a conservatory for local species. When the cruise ships are docked i'm told it can be busier. Such a beautiful place with a great cause. Not alot of "fluff" or tech, a simple walk and view the creatures.

This was great. How could anyone not love it? It's perfect for a day when you're all beached out. There's a ton of shade, you walk through at your own leisure, and there's so much to see. Time your visit so you're there for the flamingo show at 11 am and the Turtle Activities at 11:30 am. It is such a value for the $35 admission.

We visited this place while on a Caribbean cruise. It was really great and the kids loved it however, one important warning for anyone that goes here. Pay with CASH only! We paid using our Visa card and we believe this is the place where our card was compromised. It caused a lot of headaches for us when we got home and had to reverse the fraudulent transactions. So by all means go visit this place, it’s wonderful, but pay your entrance fee and anything else with cash.

Botanical gardens and zoo-like atmosphere with plenty of birds, iguanas, monkeys, and turtles. It was not too crowded on our day, so it was easy to see everything that one would want to. The garden thing is a stretch for the large trees have signage, but not the bushes that were flowering. Fortunately, we had someone who has an app that if you take a picture will tell you the flowers name and there were lots of flowers that day. Overall, worthwhile and great for families.
