I was in Inverness for two nights on my way from landing in Manchester to Durness on the north coast of Scotland, to acclimatize myself to the time change and see more of an area I had only briefly visited once before. I'm thankful that I found Ardconnel House (thanks, TripAdvisor!). It was a most pleasant visit, and John and Elizabeth are wonderful hosts.
The building is charming, very easy to find from the train station, and they did a nice job of setting it up as a B&B. The dining area is spacious and comfortable, and as a vegetarian I had plenty of good choices from the sidebar and menu of cooked options. The lounge on the second floor is a nice bonus, with lots of Scotland books and magazines available, a large screen TV, and comfy chairs. Although my single room was quite small, it was comfortable and lacked nothing. I certainly wasn't cramped in any way, although getting to the closet was slightly awkward. (But maybe I just packed too much stuff for this trip!)
I can't say enough good about John and Elizabeth. Very gracious and extremely helpful, including some perfect restaurant suggestions from my two dinners while there. Even John's suggestions of a route for a nice long run one day was perfect, and I thoroughly enjoyed running along the Ness River and canal. (If only he could have done something about the stiff headwind on the return!)
I have only two VERY minor issues. One was that the shower in my single room was a bit small, although since it is the corner type with doors that close in the corner it wasn't too bad, and overall the ensuite bath was adequately spacious. The other is that to get to the downtown area requires navigating several flights of stairs coming and going (or a long walk 'round on roads). Like I said, these are minor things at worst, but might be worth considering for some people.
Overall, I'm really happy to have chosen Ardconnel, and would stay there again for sure.
