12 Best Hotels in San Sebastián, Spain | Condé Nast Traveler

"The first sign that Hotel Arima is something special is its breathtaking aluminum‑slatted façade that shifts with the sun, and inside I encountered a 69‑room Passivhaus retreat whose calm Scandinavian decor extends to the Foresta spa—claimed to be the world’s first Passivhaus‑certified wellness center—with hydrotherapy pools, infrared saunas, an ice plunge and a large gym. Rooms are zen‑inducing with white walls and light oak, and the eco‑conscious details (rainwater‑filtered toilets, sulphate‑free toiletries, four‑compartment recycling) sit alongside Misura’s farm‑to‑table Basque menu featuring dishes like wild mushroom risotto and local grilled fish; in summer don’t miss the rooftop pool and bar for txakoli and pastel sunsets." - Paul Richardson, Marti Buckley

Arima Hotel & Spa (San Sebastian, Basque Country) 6 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For as long as there’s been such a thing as an architecturally adventurous boutique hotel, Spain has been one of the places that’s most enthusiastically adopted the trend. The Basque country, in particular, has a history of embracing forward-thinking design — the region’s substantial Frank Gehry presence is only the most conspicuous example. A couple of decades on, we’re happy to report that this tradition is still going strong: Arima Hotel, in San Sebastián, is a fine example of forward-looking boutique-hotel design, combined with an eco-friendly, nature-first approach that makes for a refreshingly tranquil experience." - Tablet Hotels

Our stay was top class , we had great staff, they were friendly and efficient and had a great standard of English, amongst other languages. The room was spacious and clean .We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent ! Spent an afternoon at the rooftop pool which had bar service . There are plenty of free parking spaces out the front of the hotel. A very regular bus runs to the boulevard at the old town which eliminates parking woes in San Sebastián. We would highly recommend Hotel Arima .

I went here for my birthday on a couples trip with my girlfriend, and honestly… 10/10 would do it again. Getting there is super easy (even though it’s a bit out of the center, but hey, that’s the charm — it’s literally in the woods). As soon as we arrived they welcomed us with a glass of chacolí — not a bad way to start a getaway, right? The staff were great, super attentive, and made us feel at home right away. The room was spacious, spotless, cozy, and with views that make you want to stay in bed a little longer than usual (guilty). The pool? Quiet, relaxing, and just what you need to disconnect. Basically, if you’re looking for a little escape, this place has you covered. My girlfriend and I left with a smile, happy stomachs, and a really good “mouth flavour” (yes, it’s a thing now). Totally recommend it, and we’re already planning our return.

A wonderfully architected hotel. Ecological and environmental ethos was a bonus. Spa is excellent, treatments even better (ask for Isabel for a sports massage, the best I’ve ever had!). Care and attention to the food was obvious and service at dinner excellent and when my steak was tough (although perfectly cooked) they bent over backwards to rectify the situation. Staff were lovely in the most part (I wish the staff at breakfast could be a little happier). My only complaint is that it’s in a business park so you are surrounded by office buildings with forest on one side. Made me feel I was there for ‘work’ not ‘play’.

Excellent hotel, cozy rooms and great surroundings. Forrest and serene environment. The cafe on premises is excellent for snacks and pinxtos. However the “packages” come with lackluster service throughout, spa and restaurant experiences were lackluster. The dinning experience was especially poor with inattentive service on top.

This resort might not be the first place that comes to mind when visiting San Sebastián, but it's truly a hidden gem. Nestled in the middle of the woods and surrounded by nature, it offers a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The facilities are excellent, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend it—100% worth it.

We had a wonderful stay for my birthday at Arima Hotel and Spa. The hotel itself is beautiful with modern look and serene feel. The staff is very professional and at the same time very friendly. We had amazing breakfast with high quality ingredients and fruits! The spa pool is outstanding. The pressure in the pool is better than most massages I had before. We don’t have kids but there were many families with kids. So I’d say it is a kid friendly hotel. We were really sad to leave. We will miss Arima and would like to come back soon!

I had high expectations for Hotel Arima given its affiliation with Small Luxury Hotels, but my experience was deeply disappointing. The air conditioning in our room was not functioning properly throughout our three-night stay. Despite reporting the issue multiple times, the room remained hot and stuffy, with a persistent temperature of 25°C. We were told the issue was fixed, yet nothing changed. A staff member even acknowledged that the room lacked proper ventilation and offered us another room — but only on the final night, after midnight. We were also promised that a manager would speak with us before checkout, yet no one was available. The service recovery was nonexistent — no follow-up, no compensation, and no accountability. We ended up sleeping in uncomfortable conditions for two nights, and had to relocate rooms late on the third. At this price point and under the SLH brand, I expected much better. Unfortunately, the hotel chose not to take responsibility or offer any resolution after my stay. I wouldn’t recommend this property based on our experience.

This hotel is truly exceptional. Every design detail is beautifully curated with a refined, minimalist aesthetic that creates a peaceful and elegant atmosphere. The restaurant offers excellent food with a wide variety of well-crafted dishes, and the breakfast buffet includes everything you could possibly want to start your day. I highly recommend staying here – it’s a perfect blend of comfort, style, and quality service.
