12 Best Hotels in San Sebastián, Spain | Condé Nast Traveler

"The first sign that Hotel Arima is something special is its breathtaking aluminum‑slatted façade that shifts with the sun, and inside I encountered a 69‑room Passivhaus retreat whose calm Scandinavian decor extends to the Foresta spa—claimed to be the world’s first Passivhaus‑certified wellness center—with hydrotherapy pools, infrared saunas, an ice plunge and a large gym. Rooms are zen‑inducing with white walls and light oak, and the eco‑conscious details (rainwater‑filtered toilets, sulphate‑free toiletries, four‑compartment recycling) sit alongside Misura’s farm‑to‑table Basque menu featuring dishes like wild mushroom risotto and local grilled fish; in summer don’t miss the rooftop pool and bar for txakoli and pastel sunsets." - Paul Richardson, Marti Buckley

Arima Hotel & Spa (San Sebastian, Basque Country) 6 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For as long as there’s been such a thing as an architecturally adventurous boutique hotel, Spain has been one of the places that’s most enthusiastically adopted the trend. The Basque country, in particular, has a history of embracing forward-thinking design — the region’s substantial Frank Gehry presence is only the most conspicuous example. A couple of decades on, we’re happy to report that this tradition is still going strong: Arima Hotel, in San Sebastián, is a fine example of forward-looking boutique-hotel design, combined with an eco-friendly, nature-first approach that makes for a refreshingly tranquil experience." - Tablet Hotels

What a lovely modern hotel, situated in a lush green forest setting. The parking was spacious and very convenient with charging points for our ev vehicle. The room was very clean and comfortable. Friendly staff greeted us with a welcome drink of delicious local Txakoli wine, and accomodated our very early check-in! Bus stops just outside the hotel to hop on to go into old town. Highly recommend!!

Its well designed modern property. We appreciate the check in, i believe her name was Uma, she showed her knowledge and skills with a complete professional approach. She was also friendly and with a warm welcome, she helped our luggage to keep since we came early, also thanks to her and my hilton gold membership and also my birthday, we got upper category upgrade. Room was spacious and very well designed with a beautiful forrest view. Breakfast was top notch! Its not a huge buffet but very good quality products with local selections, we also appreciated staff’s friendliness and warm welcome always.

First time at an SLH hotel and it was okay. Hotel itself is beautiful and the staff is very nice. Breakfast was great and the restaurant downstairs has some excellent dishes. Downside is that its far from town so you either have to taxi or take the city bus to get to anything else. Our room was small but very comfortable. I knocked down a couple of stars because there was some black mold in the bathroom ceiling above the tub, and since the hotel was booked we couldn’t swap rooms. No partial refunds or remedies offered. I think the ventilation in the rooms is poor, which led to this issue

While we thoroughly enjoyed the modern design of this hotel and the room, it did come with a few issues. The lighting system in the room is complicated. In the bathroom everything is either off with a small night light, or everything is on. Same with the rest of the room unless you turned some off before turning the main light switch off. Bit confusing. The ventilation in the bathroom was very poor, so our towels didn't dry. It did not help the matter that mid stay the main AC got turned off. We tried cooling the room for night (21°C), for hours, and it just got hotter. When it got to 27° we called reception and they told us the AC was set to winter mode now so we had to turn it off and sleep with the window open - and noise and light. Otherwise the room was fabulously soundproofed! Major props to front desk who communicated about our AC issue and morning shift was aware and took care of it by providing us with a fan the next night. The spa should honestly be included in the room price. 30€ + 3€ mandatory slippers is just too much for what you get - hot jacuzzi pool, cooler pool and a "cold plunge" that was more like +15°. Also there is no proper sauna, only a couple infrared cubicles. The water and clean cups had ran out and we had to step outside to ask for more from reception. The spa had no hooks to hang robes/towels so it was awkward to set them on top or inside cupboards hoping no one mixes them up. Gym was great which is a rarity! Four different spaces for different needs. Wifi does not work there. The hotel is located outside the center but honestly, it's not an issue with how often the bus runs. Super convenient. Breakfast was enough albeit a little "cold" feeling because of limited choices compared to other breakfasts we had during our trip. Maybe make this one a little less design-y...

I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Arima & Spa. The hotel is beautifully designed, peaceful, and perfectly located. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. Joel at reception gave us a warm greeting and a great overview of the hotel’s amenities, plus excellent tips for exploring San Sebastián. When a reservation I had made at a nearby Michelin-starred restaurant turned out to be missing, Joel went above and beyond to get us a new reservation for lunch the next day — a real lifesaver! Later that day, I accidentally dropped my credit card down the elevator shaft (yes, really!), and once again, Joel handled the situation calmly and professionally, assuring me it would be retrieved — and it was. Noelle at the front desk was also incredibly helpful, assisting with final details for our restaurant visit and ensuring everything went smoothly. Hotel Arima is not only beautiful and relaxing — the staff truly go the extra mile. I highly recommend it and would absolutely stay again.

Google
A wonderful hotel in every aspect. Firstly an excellent warm and friendly welcome yet most professional. The room was perfect with everything needed . I particularly booked this hotel because of the location which was ideal, rather than having to battle through San Sebastián trying to park, the bus opposite left every few minutes throughout the day making the journey in and out so easy . I could not recommend the Arima any higher and when staying in San Sebastián would not think of staying anywhere else.

I was really disappointed staying here. The housekeeping wasn’t good and there was no turndown service. I would come back to my room after housekeeping and there was still garbage in the room, my things were messy, etc. The rooms had no robes, Netflix, or room service. My father was in a wheelchair accessible room but it weirdly had no phone or garbage can, and they left garbage in his room after housekeeping. It seemed like he was having worse service because he was disabled. I attached photos directly after housekeeping, they make the bed and that’s it. I had used vanity product that they didn’t replace, they left garbage on the nightstand and in the plastic bag, just really poor service. The cafe was okay but they didn’t serve coffee with breakfast - there was a bad old coffee machine you could use to make one yourself but there was no barista coffee. Considering the price of breakfast I would have liked a real latte. It’s also really far from the city centre. Overall I was super disappointed with my stay here and would definitely not classify it as a four star experience or recommend it to friends and family.

Really comfortable modern rooms with passiv credentials and blackout electronic blinds. Underground parking handy to dump the car and access the city by 28 bus, so easy! Fab breakfast and helpful reception staff. Nicer than staying in the city!
