10 Best Museums in Copenhagen

"South of Copenhagen, between Ishøj Harbour and Køge Bay Beach in the multi-cultural suburb of Vestegnen, Arken is a shrine to modern and contemporary art, buoyed by a rustic, maritime backdrop. The building, designed by Søren Robert Lund, is just as captivating, its architecture mimicking a ship. Inside are more than 400 works by Danish, Nordic, and international artists from 1990 and beyond, including Antony Gormley and Olafur Eliasson, as well as entire galleries devoted to Damien Hirst and Anselm Reyle." - Alia Akkam

Google
truly engaging experience with its thought-provoking exhibitions and interactive attractions that leave a lasting impression. The location, slightly away from the city center, adds to its unique atmosphere and makes the visit even more memorable. On top of that, the museum café serves excellent coffee, making it a perfect spot to reflect on the art and the overall experience.

If you love modern art, this is the place for you. Plus it sits in a beautiful surrounding, with walks around the lakes and by the sea. A lovely cafe is just a few hundred yards away with pizza, beer, ice cream and other refreshments. Spend an extra hour exploring the nature walks if weather permits. You may even be lucky enough to spot a troll on your walk!

The museum has some special exhibitions, and little by little visitors emerge into the artistic world. I enjoy the welcoming and warm of the staff members, and how kind they communicate with the customers but also between each others transmitting a nice feeling of a community. For some video projections more seats are needed as there was no space for everyone. The location is simply beautiful. Other than that, there is a big parking place also used by those going to the strand and not visiting the museum, and a small bycicle space.

An interesting modern art museum by the coast. Not the most inspiring building on the outside, but good exhibits, café/restaurant and shop. Unfortunately, the day we came there was extremely loud construction going on. The museum gave cheap entrance and a free coffee because of the noise, but it would have been nice if they had stated the ongoing work on their website. Still a good place to visit and very nice food. Our highlight was the plastic ball pool for all ages. Lots of parking but unfortunately no electric car charging available.

I usually visit Arken 3 or 4 times per year, it’s always a beautiful journey, not only about art, but the area it’s calm, gives this inspirational and wonder vibe! The restaurant I advise to relax there for lunch or just a coffee. Last time I tried Enoki, vegan dish, was ok, I believe that I’m not a fan because I don’t love fried food, but try I would say

Nothing special, ugly building. Also very difficult to navigate inside. It was kaos in some rooms because of renovation and smelled color. I use to go to museums and not sure why but here I just felt want I want to leave. The area outside is nothing fansy either. Little wilderness. Sculptures outside are some few which do not say much to me. Only one exhibition was good. Not sure if I go back.

It is one of the best modern art museums I’ve ever been to! I would definitely come back. It may be outside of the city, but it worth your while! It has a very nice and peaceful walkway from the closest train station. And you can take half a day for it and combine it with a swim. A big and lovely sand beach is just a five minute walk from it… I strongly suggest if

Yelp
A great location for a large group dinner. The museum hosted a dinner for our group of 500 people. There are not many locations that can comfortably accommodate that many people. The museum building is quite interesting. The most memorable exhibit was by Patricia Piccinini. Her pieces seemed to evoke a reaction from each person.

Yelp
I'm somewhat disappointed with Arken, but probably because I have had high expectation of this place. This museum is located in Ishøj, 30-minute train ride from Copenhagen. Yes, it's far, but so is Humlebæk where Louisiana is. While the latter has a great view over the Øresund, this one has, well, a view over a cleared mark with glints of water far ahead. But you don't judge museum from the view outside, right? Arken is a small place, to begin with. We were here for the Van Gogh exhibition and I have had such high expectation of what I would see, but of course that was easily broke my spirits because Van Gogh collections are so spread out around the world, that I would only see the paintings that aren't probably as famous as the ones, for example, hanging in the Met in New York. Apart from Van Gogh, they were also running an exhibition of J.F. Willumsen, a local artist, and this was the one that was more interesting because he made such extensive artworks, even his painting styles were different from one to another, and he made like a gazillion of great paintings, including sketches for American magazines (?) Anyway, the museum was small, the shop was inadequate, and we hadn't checked the cafe. It seemed almost unworthy to go all the way to Ishøj to this place and paying 150kr for an entrance ticket. I would probably stick to the other Modern Art museum instead.

Yelp
ARE YOU PEOPLE FOR REAL. Thank God I got the ticket from a group-on offer. I was there with my girlfriend, mainly to see the exhibition of Peder Severin Krøyer and Michael Ancher. Very nice. I was not amazed, but it was nicely presented including the history behind each painting. From the permanent exhibits, I think only Damien Hirst's were kinda worthy. Except the damn dots!!!! My grandmother had a tablecloth like that from the 60's! There Chinese zodiac signs were also nice, but you cannot call this modern art. There were just shiny reprices of Haiyantang (18th century). I admit that I am not the biggest fan of modern art, but spraying a black line on a white canvas, is not art at all. It does not require talent, skill... or even effort. The only talent some of the exhibited artists have, is to present themselves as artist and make people believe them! Moreover, the cafeteria is a rip-off! You buy coffee and cake (around 80kr.) and the still charge you tap water for 10kr!

Yelp
Arken is a pretty sweet place that dares to be museum-douchy. Arken is like a giant art nerd that turned into that guy at the party who claims art to be 'pieces' and talks forever about the destructivism of Kafka. You know him, he's the guy you tried to avoid at that last reception and the one you laughed at when he was doing that inane installation 'piece' last summer. Arken is that guy if, you know, he was a museum. It means that I wouldn't hang there all the time, but I sure do like a little bit of nonsensical art from time to time. Also, there are things here that are actually quite good, even without being an expert in these things. The museum store is not fun. All I wanted was a coloring book, but apparently you can't be an adult AND fun at the same time. The restaurant brunch was good though.
