This City Has the Worst Traffic in the U.S.

"A prominent river crossing near the nation's capital that routinely becomes clogged during peak periods — images depict cars packed on it during rush hour. The surrounding city has some of the worst traffic in the country, with average commutes exceeding 33 minutes and typical weekday congestion lasting over 6.5 hours, though driving there is relatively safe with fewer than six fatal crashes per 100,000 residents." - Michael Cappetta Michael Cappetta Michael Cappetta is a travel writer with over 10 years of experience in journalism and television news. Scenic bridge leading from Arlington Cemetary to the DC. Felt safe as a pedestrian. Adequate space to walk. Bridge is kept clean. Nice views all around.

Google
A beautiful sight that I visited by foot. If you are taking the metro, you could take an early morning stroll from Arlington cemetery station to the bridge. Remember to bring along your windbreaker too! 😄 Lovely scenery and sculptures that surround the bridge. Across the bridge are most of the must see sights of Washington DC.

Google
Beautiful bridge to drive over. Clean and well kept. With the Potomac River right underneath. Much better than the bridge north of it.

Google
Absolutely beautiful! A great drive, even better, so to catch the sunset! There is parking available throughout the area. A lot to see in this area. Perfect for a bike ride, a run out a stroll.

Mantas Kubilinskas

Google
This place is the most romantic and beautiful especially during the sunset. I have a lot of experience of taking a pictures in different kind of locations and this one, believe me, really special one. I definitely highly recommend this place. :)

Google
Beautiful bridge and it's nice to walk or run on. Has a beautiful view of Arlington National Cemetery on one end and the Lincoln Memorial on the other. Also has a beautiful view of the Washington monument it an excellent area to see Fire Works. You will also see this area in several movies from time to time. With the Air Port close by you can watch the Jets take of and land from here .

Google
Nice walk. A little noisy. And a lot of abandoned bikes.

Google
Watching the sunset on the bridge was beautiful.. now add in the sight of planes flying low over your head to land, makes it all more exciting.

Yelp
The bridge connects the monuments & the title basin with the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. From the bridge we had a view of the Kennedy Center, Washington Monument, Lincoln monument. There wasn't much to see & the walk wasn't worth the sights that were here.

Yelp
If there is one bridge I abhor in the DC area it is this bridge. This bridge, regardless of how I approach it, I always end up lost and confused. I really wish that there would be better makers to allow drivers to know which lane they need to be in before they end up on a highway in Virginia. I find driving to be a relaxing activity, but when I near this bridge my anxiety goes through the roof. Back to what I said about the lanes, no matter which lane I am in, I'm always in the wrong lane. Instead of being a typical DC driver and nearly cause an accident, I just keep going with the lane. I'm not going to detract from the beauty of the bridge, because it is beautiful. Depending on the way that you approaching it, you will be brought to areas that are equally beautiful scenes. Going towards Virginia you will end up in Arlington National Cemetery (if you are in the right lane). If you go towards DC you will end up in the National Mall area, Lincoln Memorial end. If you are fortunate to find a parking space in the National Mall area, you are able to walk freely about. But if it was not for the unfortunate traffic inducing bridge, I will not ever get used to this bridge. Please put better markings so I know where I am going.

Yelp
Not to be confused with the Arlington Mammarial Bridge, which is the one which girls are constantly crossing while topless. It's a much more fun and less somber bridge than this one. So I drove from Atlantic City to Washington recently. It was my AC-DC drive. And it took me all night long. So I have a NYC heart but I'm a bit of a DChead. I had no choice but to review the AMB today, having seen President Biden cross it in his motorcade today. It was an inspirational and moving and relieving day, being rid of the white nationalist terrorist-inciting billionaire Putin-clone 1% frontman, and getting an actual President to go with all of the other excellent Presidents we've had. The Arlington Memorial Bridge has a lot of very special memories for me. It smells and looks and sounds like freedom, and I'm aware I sound trite as hell when I say that. When I first came to America as a sixteen-year-old and walked around Boston and New York and Washington DC by myself all day for several days in a row, taking buses at night and sleeping on the buses, this was the place. Those were the times. And honestly those were the days. Somehow I can barely remember it. But oh those days. Oh to be 16 again and know what we know now?! Walking all the way from the Greyhound bus station on the other side of Washington DC out here to Arlington Cemetery on a very hot Summer's day carrying all my stuff. Trekking across this beautiful long bridge. Looking at the wide-open flat-looking DC, and feeling lonely and yet fulfilled. Those were the days before my Uncle lived here. He lives here now. I later went to school here. I later played shows here, when on tour. Crossed this bridge so many times over the years. But I'm so glad that Biden crossed it today as President. As for DC? It's still one of the greatest cities in the country and one of the best cities to visit especially as a first-timer because of all the great landmarks and tourist attractions in different neighborhoods and how walkable and Visually appealing the city is. So if your Grandpa is way too SLEAZY And his advances make you QUEASY And his breathing is way too WHEEZY Wandering hands all clammy and GREASY Walk out on him and come and SEE ME I'll tell you pick up lines that are cute and CHEESY I'll whisper in your ear and make you feel EASY And after, I'll take you for the best food in DC WHAT Now for some food recs in DC & NOVA. Silk Road Choyhona - best Uzbek food. Max's - best Israeli - get shawarma/falafel with all the add-ons & spicy stuff. Sadie Ann's inside the Dutch Village Market, hot pretzels and banana shakes. &pizza - just wow. Falafel Inc - Love the prices and mission of the place too. Sardi's - some of the best Peruvian chicken and sauce, ever. Lovely Salvadoran food and drinks at Casita Gyros from Yia Yia's and Plaka, Hard Times Cafe - delicious Chili Mac (Terlingua Red)... Late night, it has to be Kabob Palace Torta at El Rulas in Manassas Afghan and Persian food at Mazadar The Burger Shack - the best Treats - Sno Cream Company inside The Block in Annandale York Castle - crazy tropical flavors Also, did you hear what happened when Robert Redford tried to get with Demi Moore in this town? It was an in-DC Proposal. *** My previous review said: Hey I just met you And this is crazy But there's a nice bridge So Arl me maybe? One of the most famous and beautiful bridges in the country. It transports you across the river to the gravesites of John F Kennedy and Robert F Kennedy. And others with the middle initial F, I'd imagine. And the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and many others. The other side is even more spectacular with the Lincoln Memorial right at the end of the bridge, and the 'Nam memorial right next to it. Views along the river in both directions are stunning. You can see to Georgetown including the Kennedy Center (there's that name again) and the Watergate buildings (if you want to Nix something, that's where you get your Nix on). Washington DC may be a lot of negative things but it is also very beautiful. Now that's Arl I have to say about it.

Yelp
Wife's favorite route to DCA Airport from Rock Creek Parkway without any traffic lights. The drive takes GPS and patience but you will be rewarded with closeup views of special local treasures. The winged statues of Arts of Peace (Music and Literature) will distract with head turning beauty. The Watergate Stairs followed by the equestrian statues of Arts of War (Sacrifice and Valor) will leave you dizzy as you cross the bridge. Once across, take 1st right at traffic circle and stay left towards GW Parkway/DCA. Simple pleasures. Farewell, DC.

Yelp
If you're running, walking or sightseeing, this bridge connects VA with DC. Situated in the midst of the Mall, monuments and the National Cemetery. The bridge runs directly over the Mt. Vernon Trail and the Potomac River. For me, this is the 3 mile mark from the Crystal City Water Park in Arlington so its my halfway point where I turn around and head back to complete 6 miles. The construction is beautiful, detailed, and very grand. There are huge, gold statues at the base of both sides worth a look. Plenty of walkers, runners, cyclists and tourists passing over the bridge. Cars as well, but I've never seen the traffic get backed up.

Yelp
It's a bridge and it does a perfectly adequate job of bringing pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles from Arlington to Washington. Very wide sidewalks make it possible for joggers and riders to coexist peacefully. Great view!

Yelp
Every time I try to drive across the bridge and on to the traffic circle, I feel like I am in "National Lampoon's European Vacation." But, instead of seeing Big Ben and the Parliament, I see the cemetery and Lincoln many times if I get stuck going round and round. This bridge was built in the 1920s to represent the joining of the north and south after the Civil War. That's part of the reason why you can see the Lee House going one way and the Lincoln going the other way. There are walkways on the bridge, which I find to be more useful than parking if I am doing a day of touring. When you are driving underneath the bridge, like on parts of Rock Creek Parkway..you'll go under one of the bridges nine arches. If you take a quick look upon entering the bridge, you'll see the neoclassical touches like a statue of a dude on a horse and engraved eagles.

Yelp
This bridge has been in the news lately because it is deteriorating and they are looking to make massive improvements to the bridge. The cost to do this will be about 250 million dollars. It was constructed between 1926 and 1931 and was designed to show the strength of a united nation by joining a memorial on the north side of the Potomac River (the Lincoln Memorial) with one on the south (Arlington House, the Robert E. Lee Memorial). Memorial Bridge and Avenue also connect the nation's capital to Arlington National Cemetery, where thousands who died fighting to preserve democratic government were laid to rest.

Yelp
You just gotta love nice bridges! This is one of the few bridges that join DC and Arlington! Okay, if you live here, then it's no big deal or even an annoyance since it's a choke point to getting home, but this bridge is neat for the fact you can get from DC to the National Cemetery, I remember I used to go across this bridge from Arlington and the Mt. Vernon bike trail over to the Lincoln Memorial.

Yelp
A really useful bridge that connects the Rock Creek Parkway and GW Parkway, providing a chance to drive a long way without traffic lights and one of the better ways to get between DC and VA. The views of the Mall and the Cemetery are excellent, and it's popular for walkers and bikers. The road surface on the bridge is pretty sketchy, and WaPo did an article about how it is falling apart (http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-04-13/local/38511791_1_bridge-tender-draw-span-beautiful-bridge). Be warned. It seems okay, but needs major repairs. I still drive on it.

Yelp
Constructed for the purpose of connecting Virginia to DC. Many people do not know what the bridge 'Memorial Bridge' signifies. The significance is to represent the North connecting to the South. What do I mean you ask? I mean that the Robert E. Lee House in Arlington Cemetery represents the South (confederacy) and the Lincoln Memorial (the union) and by constructing the bridge commemorates the joining of the two. Pretty neat little fact. The bridge isn't ever heavily congested even during peak times, so I would recommend using this as a means to get around the Mall instead of crossing 395. Plus it is closer to everything with a pretty view.

Yelp
Well, its a bridge and we made it across safely so that's an automatic 4 stars in my book. We decided to take the walking path across instead of driving! The architecture, statues, and views of the Potomac River are gorgeous. The bridge connects the Lincoln Memorial to Arlington National Cemetary also connecting D.C to Virginia! So much going on with one bridge! The sidewalks have plenty of room to allow bikes, pedestrians and well that's about all you would really want on them! You can hop on the Metro just as you cross and right before you enter the cemetery. There is a heavy police presence on the bridge due to the fact that it directly dumps you off into the cemetary! Bring your, camera, walking shoes and a bottle of water if it is a warm out!

Yelp
This is the way to get to Arlington as the name implies. It is a very nice well appointed bridge. While staying in DC the new was talking about how this bridge may get closed permanently in the future due to the rust and corrosion of the bridge over time and lake of infrastructure being maintained. Hopefully the closure is not true as then bridge is nice and wide with nice Gold statues at either end.

Yelp
I'll admit that the only time I go across this bridge is as I'm walking to see my sweetie run past me during MCM (2010, 2011, 2013) but it's such a beautiful bridge and the statues on the DC side are amazing! I don't think I'd enjoy it as much if I couldn't walk down the middle of it when it's closed to cars, but it's definitely an experience that I recommend!

Yelp
There are some very cool statues surrounding this bridge, and the architecture is gorgeous. You can sit near the bridge on the steps down to the Potomac in nicer weather and enjoy the view. This bridge also offers an alternative route in and out of DC for those than know how to venture where they're going from here.

Yelp
When my rooftop and Kalorama Park just weren't doing it for me, I knew I needed to go sit myself near the Potomac River, see the water glittering, watch the yachts gliding by, and watch the planes and helicopters soaring overhead. I love the Arlington Memorial Bridge and the way it gently curves (but I didn't know why it did until just now -- thanks Gayle). There's so much happening here, and yet it's such a soothing place. I sat next to the DC side, smiled at the gilded horses, and saddled up my Barbri books for an easy ride into the sunset.

Yelp
Any bridge that crosses the Potomac is pretty nice looking; but all of them serves to be the biggest choke points especially during rush hour. Depending on the time of day, you could be stuck on this bridge. Having said that, if you are driving into DC from Virginia, you get a majestic view of the Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall. Not a bad place to get stuck on. Heading into Virginia brings you into the entrance of Arlington's National Cemetery. Both the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery are worthy of a visit. A separate path is there for walkers, joggers and bicycles.

Yelp
My husband and I walked along this bring from Arlington Cemetery to the Mall. A very clean, and very beautiful sight to see if you are in DC and just walking around. We had a great time and a perfect view!

Yelp
DC is so walker friendly and that's why this bridge is so cool! amazing way to walk from arlington straight to the lincoln memorial by avoiding the car traffic! :)

Yelp
Gorgeous bridge. Makes me feel so patriotic crossing from the Arlington area and running smack into the Lincoln Memorial! I love my commute!

Sewell T.

Yelp
What an awesome bridge. Here I am driving along needing to get to the other side of the river and low and behold the Memorial bridge was there. I drove onto it and the next thing I know I am over the river. Excellent!

Peter S.

Yelp
This bridge... like the Pentagon... is usually strictly work related (driving to/from work).

Yelp
The Smithsonian National Zoological Park is located on 3001 Connecticut Ave NW Washington, DC 20008. This national zoo is the first major zoo, the purpose of the zoo was never meant to be for entertainment but to save endangered animals in the US. Many were worried about the disappearance of American Wilderness, so the zoo was made as a reminder for everyone that those animals are not forgotten. I have visited this zoo many times, I think it is one of DC's most beautiful sites and everyone should visit. They usually hold light shows or other events during christmas, Halloween and summer. I give this site a 5 star because I can grantee anyone can have an amazing time here, regardless of you're age. It's also a great place to have family time or just a date :) The zoo is free and open to public but it does have certain hours. They have a website that you can visit for questions, Zoo hours and upcoming events!
