After skimming many very negative reviews of this place that were not close to the experience I had, I felt I needed to write a review to offer another perspective. I'm not sure why people have such a varied experience here; my guess is that a) the rooms really are in various stages of renovation and it's luck of the draw what state your room is in, b) many people mistake older/faded/worn for "dirty" and/or c) some people have truly never stayed at a rat trap highway motel they can compare a place with to know what *bad* and *dirty* truly is.||Our room was nice--simple and renovated (we got a standard double). The carpet was faded and the radiator needed some paint to cover a bit of rust, but it was not dirty. The temperature was fine; there's less control than you get in some more modern setups but it was a hot July day and the cooling worked great. The bathroom layout wasn't the best (no where to put toiletries and not enough space for towels), but the room was clean and functional (the tub had some scratches, but again--not dirty). The beds were comfortable (the pillows were a little cheap, but I've had worse at spendier hotels).||The lobby is a highlight--even if you don't stay here, grab a coffee or a drink and enjoy it!||We ate one breakfast and one dinner in the dining room, and both were great. Service was reasonably quick, not speedy, but you're not in a hurry, you're on vacation, right? There was nothing spectacular about the breakfast selections, but they were tasty and not badly overpriced for a hotel restaurant. Dinner was delicious--I had a perfectly cooked steak.||I enjoyed the bathhouse with a bath and massage--the staff were wonderful and guide you through everything expertly. Again, the space is older, so there were some spots of peeling paint, and the vibe would be more luxe if they put the cleaning supplies in a closet instead of plain sight, but overall, great experience.||A real highlight for us was the pool--the two-level pool was beautiful set into the side of the cliff and well-maintained. Older reviews mention old carpet and cracks--nope, this space is renovated and welcoming.||The only major downside was parking--it was tight, limited, and IMO overpriced. Frankly, if it's not downtown Chicago or Manhattan, I really don't expect to pay for parking, and sorry, Hot Springs, you're not Manhattan. I'd like to see them address the parking and provide a free parking option.||Yes, the hotel is older; no, it's not pristine new construction; yes, it's got a lot more charm than new construction, too. We met many guests who return time after time, some multiple times a year--let that speak for itself.
