So I thought carefully before writing this review, and I’m going to try to be fair here. My sister and I were beyond excited to stay at the Arlington because we had stayed as young adults with our family, and our great grandmother used to work in the Bath House section. I have read a lot of the reviews and agree when people say that the building is antique and it’s good that they keep the old charm and that there’s only so much you can do with old places. I also heard from several locals after we left, that there are many legal loopholes that the owners have to go through in order to comply with the historical society, safety of nearby residents, construction workers and still keep the place running. I was told that this is a very hard process and the owners are doing all they can do. I applaud this, however, it wasn’t the old charm that sent my sister and I fleeing in the middle of the night. We paid for history, that part we loved. Where I draw the line, is German cockroaches. AND, I probably would have agreed to stay if I had been warned upfront, “Hey guys, just to let you know, I apologize, we are struggling with critters right now, but we are working hard to make ends meet and preserve the Arlington”, anything, say something to make up for the situation. Don’t just be okay with your guests fleeing in the middle of the night and certainly do apologize when they explain to you why, don’t just check them out and act as though you could care less (front desk man). This place used to be magical for us and our children. The piano playing in the foyer late at night, Al Capone’s old car parked inside, a true Time Machine…., Hot Springs has so much history and so does the Arlington, I pray that with a combined effort, the state of Arkansas can turn this around.
