We’ve visited Armathwaite Hall many times over the past year, and it has quickly become our favourite place to unwind. From the warm welcome at reception to the friendly bar staff, immaculate housekeeping team, and the exceptional restaurant service—especially from Liam and his partner—everyone consistently goes above and beyond. There’s a genuine family feel throughout the hotel, reflected in the fact that many staff members have been there for over a decade. And of course, we can’t forget Saffy the resident cat, who adds even more charm to the experience.

Outstanding hotel with well maintained grounds. We spent two nights in the feature double room, which is excellently appointed. The spa facilities were great. We particularly enjoyed the cocktail bar and breakfast - the lounge area is a fantastic place to rest and enjoy a drink by the fire. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. I think we have found our Lakes getaway hotel for the foreseeable future. It’s also a great base for hiking!

Tucked beside the tranquil shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, Armathwaite Hall is a masterclass in timeless elegance and modern comfort. Over the course of our five-night stay, my partner and I found it to be the ideal sanctuary for rest and rejuvenation.||The property retains the grandeur of its historic architecture while offering contemporary luxury throughout — from the well-appointed spa and fitness facilities to the sophisticated lounge and dining spaces. The outdoor whirlpool, framed by sweeping Lakeland views, offered a particularly memorable experience, with attentive staff serving drinks as we relaxed beneath the open sky.||Dining at Armathwaite Hall was consistently excellent. Whether in the Grill Room or the main restaurant, the menus showcased high-quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. The cocktail bar exuded charm and comfort, especially when paired with a roaring fire on cool evenings.||Yet it was the staff who truly distinguished our stay. Under the exceptional leadership of Joe, the manager, the team delivered service that was both polished and genuinely heartfelt. Every interaction reflected an authentic commitment to guest experience — something increasingly rare in hospitality today.||Armathwaite Hall stands as a shining example of how heritage, hospitality, and heart can come together to create an unforgettable stay.

We had a wonderful break here this half term.|Our room was outstanding, and we loved the laid back vibe of the hotel. ||We are keen walkers so spent the mornings hiking before using the spa and relaxing in the lounge with a cocktail and a book in the afternoons. The member of staff on shift in the cocktail bar was friendly and attentive. ||Breakfast was a highlight, hot food was cooked to order and felt high quality.||We had come for a weekend break without our 2 young children, so we were grateful that the pool was adults only for the majority of the day. ||We will definitely return, this was one of the best hotel experiences we have had. Faultless.

This hotel is an absolute gem. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The building is historic and it’s beautifully maintained, clean, and full of charm. The spa is relaxing and spotless, a true highlight of our stay. The hotel is incredibly pet-friendly, which made traveling with our dog so easy and enjoyable. The staff? Absolutely outstanding. Every single person we interacted with was warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell they love what they do. The food was delicious. And the location couldn’t be better; quiet and peaceful, yet close to everything we needed. This place has it all: charm, comfort, service, and a truly welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be coming back, and you should go too!

Had afternoon tea here on Monday and it was perfect from the food and drinks to the service and location. Big shout out to the tall white server with the southern accent he was so professional and attentive. Also I don’t know what coffee beans they use but they’re so tasty!!!

We returned to Armathwaite for a short weekend break last week. I was keen to try the new Grill restaurant. As others have said in reviews, it did not disappoint! The menu is varied and interesting. My ribeye was cooked to perfection and served by the most charming staff ||The weather was not the best but still managed to walk Archie my dog in the woods and beautiful grounds. There was a storm on the Sunday night with rain and wind of near monsoon proportions which only added to the cosy ambienc provided by a roaring log fire in the Hall. Let’s face it if it weren’t for the rain in Cumbria it would be called the Hilly District. ||My wife had her usual visit to the excellent Spa and Archie made friends with Saffy the gorgeous hotel cat. ||Thank you again all at Armathwaite Hall

Yelp
Second stay at the hotel. The grounds and views are gorgeous.. the hotel is an old and well staffed, very friendly . Rooms are nice beds are comfortable if a little on the firm side WiFi is free and works. The TV'S are dated poor signal and few channels (for when it's heavily raining ). Spa is great but often busy. Personally I'd skip the restaurant and head to keswick. Menu is dated and the food is ok, totally outdone by its surroundings. Ask for the lake view. Did i mention that the grounds are beautiful.

Yelp
An amazing old building and a high-quality hotel. It's set in the slightly quieter northern end of the Lake District, slightly away from many of the more touristy places -- although that adds quite a bit to your journey if you're coming from the south. But don't let that put you off: the peace and tranquility of the place means it's well worth the extra drive. The views over Bassenthwaite Lake from the restaurant and bar are absolutely outstanding, and I happened to visit in June when the long evenings meant you could enjoy the natural beauty of the place nearly all night. The food was very good and the rooms very comfortable. I stayed at the hotel as part of a conference so can't comment on whether the place offers good value or not (my employers paid!) -- but all in all Armathwaite Hall struck me as being a wonderful place to stay.
