"At one time the Armenian community was very influential in Singapore , working as lawyers, merchants, and entrepreneurs. To serve the community, the Armenian Church—officially called the Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator—was built in 1836, the first permanent place of Christian worship in Singapore. Designed by Irish architect George D. Coleman, the structure abuts a graveyard as impressive as the neoclassical building itself. More garden than cemetery, it boasts wrought-iron benches and manicured lawns that surround a small collection of elegant white-marble tombstones of prominent Armenians of yesteryear—including Agnes Joaquim, who bred Singapore’s national flower, a vanda orchid known as Miss Joaquim."

The Armenian Church of St Gregory the Illuminator, is an amazing place to enjoy peaceful moments with yourself, praying and praising our Almighty God. Beautifully built church with nice and meaningful sculptures, one of which is Jesus Christ with cross. I love everything about that place. God bless you all 🙌🏻

A very beautiful and well maintained church, albeit small, especially when compared to other churches within the vicinity. As the oldest church in Singapore, it appears to be simple, humble yet rich in history. Too bad we didn't get the chance to visit inside the church as it was closed to the public for a private event.

I highly recommend a visit to Singapore's first church built in the early 1800's. Armenians have played an integral role in the development of Singapore from the Raffles Hotel to Armenian Street. A visit (by appointment) to the museum on the church grounds is also worth it to further understand the rich history of Armenians in Singapore.

A little piece of history, piety and culture in the middle of the city. When I visited this place, there wasn't much people, so it was very serene and quiet all around the church and garden. I just hope they would maximize this place, not just as a historical site, but also as a church and cultural center. I wonder if, aside from weddings, Eastern Rite liturgies are still celebrated here?

The oldest church in Singapore and the centre of a historic Armenian diasporic community in colonial Singapore. Easily accessible by public transit, the church is an oasis of calm and tranquility in bustling Singapore. Worth a visit, whether to admire the historic architecture and tombstones/memorials, or just come in for prayer and a short respite from the hustle and bustle of life.

The Armenian Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator, referred to locally as the Armenian Church, is the oldest Christian church in  located at Hill Street which was built in 1835. Nestled on the tranquil grounds of the Church is the Memorial Garden is a collection of unique tombstones marking the life of Armenians who made a significant contribution to Singapore. Early Armenian settlers were buried in the old Fort Canning cemetery. A site definitely worth visiting if you are visiting Singapore.

Solemn place to begin with. The church is open for everyone. The Armenian memorial is located just outside. I hope the tombs were maintained though.

The Armenian Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator, referred to locally as the Armenian Church, is the oldest Christian church in Singapore, located at Hill Street in the Museum Planning Area, within the Central Area. The chapel was completed in 1835 and consecrated the next year. If you happened to drop by City Hall area, do a quick check-in at this place! Shalom!🐑 Credit to Wikipedia
