Over in Halifax, NS, The Armview Diner remains an institution since the 50s. Their fish comes strait from the shore through their door, and John follows in order to get cooking and serve updated classics to a new generation of Haligonian hipsters. From fish fries, to seafood burgers and salads, Haddock is the catch of the day.

Went to Armview for Sunday Brunch and was pleasantly surprised! The food was very very good, prepared very well! Our server was very friendly, and quick, although forgot a few table items for our dishes (Katchup & Syrup for example). Sitting on the patio was nice, however being on the Arm does lend itself to a lot of traffic noise, would probably sit inside next time. Looking forward to going again!

Sadly not a great experience. We went on a busy day, so I did keep trying to make allowances for that. We had to ask for the basics, repeatedly, like cutlery, water, sugar etc. My coffee cup arrived dirty with fruit flies floating in it. Food arrived already cold. Orders were all mixed up and given more expensive items not asked for and still charged for the expensive item vs what we actually asked for. Bills were very mixed up. Outdoor seating was nice but because the sign said wait to be seated we waited 20 minutes before we realized that people sitting outside could just go around and sit right away. They seemed understaffed and I appreciate that the wait staff were doing their best and overwhelmed. Our waitress seemed extremely inexperienced and didn't seem to have anyone helping her or keeping an eye on things. The price point was ok. Nice outdoor space.

We really enjoyed our brunch at the Armview. It’s located just off the rotary in Halifax on Chebucto Rd. Service was great, the Morning After Poutine was the star of the meal and the original Eggs Benny was yummy as well. We asked for the eggs to be poached soft and they were perfect. I would have like a bit more hollandaise but that’s just a preference. Their hollandaise sauce is silky and has wonderful flavour. They also have freshly squeezed orange juice here and it was delicious.

We were visiting from Toronto and the staff were super welcoming and kind. This was our best breakfast experience in Nova Scotia! Definitely order the lobster eggs benedict

Even though I caused a ton of chaos - I flipped the menu off the table and towards the server by accident, and then spilled ketchup everywhere because I didn’t check the cap before shaking - I had an amazing time, and really enjoyed the food. My server was great and attentive, we had a good laugh on my way out since I was such a bull in the china shop. Had the classic eggs Benny, was really tasty and the home fries were crispy, but fluffy on the inside! The ham on the Benny was a little on the dry side, but had lots of flavour! The price is right and you’ll leave with a full belly and a smile on your face! Clean plate club!

Google
Cool vibe inside, very mid century modern. Food was fantastic, had the coast toast, coast guard, the French toast and long arm. French toast was for the table which was a great choice. Too much to eat of one thing for one person, great as a side/dessert. Service was maybe a tad slow but super friendly. 100% plan to return to try other menu items!

Went for brunch and had the eggs Benny special which was bacon jam and goat cheese. The egg was cooked as ordered (poached soft) and tasted soooo good. Partner ordered one of the bowls, very hearty with bacon sausage, peppers, onions and gravy topped with perfectly cooked eggs. Huge servings, you won't go away hungry. There's vurrya done around Halifax menu and they usually have a burger of the week and an eggs Benedict of the week. Hollandaise is homemade. This is a spot we frequent. Summer has great views and outdoor seating with outdoor bar. Located right at the the Armdale rotary. Always entertaining to watch people lose their minds going through. Grab a beer and enjoy the show. Service is amazing, they are all so wonderful! This is busy spot, especially on the weekend for brunch where you can find a line up out the door,.but the staff move quickly and the wait isn't long. Go here! Enjoy!

Google
It was my favorite restaurant. I understand you are busy today. But how we could get 3 times dirty watercups? We was waiting 15 min that someone will take our order, and after all water cups was dirty... and restaurant even was half full when we came. Food, very disappointed. This restaurant my to go spot for BBQ chicken wings. Today they was bitter spicy, not BBQ, and bitter... I've been cook and restaurant manager for many years, I know spices, it was taste like they put sauce and after put wings in black pepper and again in sauce. You can't to get this taste from chily or cayenne. I always enjoy milkshakes here, my favorite always chocolate or strawberry milkshake, but today I got super tiny straw with it, you can't drink milkshake with paper straw diameter 3mm. Yes it was tasty, but I saw few other clients tried to drink it, and couldn't too. My husband had Dingle burger, patty was cooked even without salt and black pepper... he always loved burgers here, but it's really last time we went there. Fries was amazing like always. Yes I left tips, because servers need to be able to pay bills too, but it was very big disappointment!

Yelp
Classic brunch spot with classic brunch food. Loved it! Was great service and reasonably quick and inexpensive :D

Yelp
Small portions and high prices. The food was acceptable but nothing special. There are better diners in Halifax.

Yelp
They deliver breakfasts worthy of kings and gods. The home cooking will deliver exactly what you need to cure hunger and hangovers alike. The service is fast and friendly and the quality is not lost in the expedience. Don't let the line-up outside the door deter you. You will eventually get a seat and discover why everyone ahead of and behind you in line is waiting patiently as well. Once inside you will experience an example of what it was like to be inside an "old timey" cafe. Very cozy and relaxing.

Yelp
Extremely good food my family went there every Sunday with our little boy. We had a wonderful.L old-fashioned home-cooked meal

Yelp
Online it says this place is wheelchair accessible but that's absolutely not true. You could get your chair inside but you need to climb a step to get to half the tables and the ones that are on the ground are not the proper height to accommodate a wheel chair. You could not get a wheelchair into the bathroom, but if you did, lord help you trying to get it out. There is no accessible washroom or stall at all. There is no where in the whole restaurant where there would be room to turn around. Claiming to be accessible when your business is not is a terrible waste of time for disabled people.

Yelp
Diner ambience with a very diverse menu. If you're in the mood for eggs & sausage (side of toast), deep-fried calamari or a Cuban sandwich, you're in the right place. Waitstaff are uniformly helpful and knowledgeable regarding the menu. Excellent coffee, too!

Yelp
Came here in the summer during lunch- crazy busy but still attentive service- excellent fish n chips!! Will return for more goodies with the fam!

Sharon J.

Yelp
Food is delicious and the service is great with a lovely ambiance.Great to socialize as people are so friendly.

Yelp
Not worth the price. If you want the blandest, most mediocre food in Halifax, by all means drop by and get ripped off for something you would make better at home. Clubhouse sandwich had old, way over-ripe tomatoes falling out of it, and the chicken meat tasted like it had been boiled? Gravy for the fries went uneaten - a dark, flavourless paste with film on the top for which they charge extra. My friend had the chicken linguine - theirs was just as disappointingly bland as my order. Was looking to treat my friend to lunch, and flushed over $60 down the toilet that would have been better spent at literally anywhere else in Halifax. The two stars were given because the staff wasn't overtly rude, nor did we see any rodents.

Yelp
Not quite sure why everyone likes this place so much. Service is sub par. Food is OK. I'll say Cousins restaurant in the north end is better than this place. Just not doing it for me Armview.

David S.

Yelp
Great variety of food at a reasonable price and the service is friendly. Can eat inside or on the patio.

Yelp
Brought some friends here tonight, and I had recommended the Armview because of its diverse menu options; the five of us all like different kinds of meals. It was a success! We all found something absolutely delicious and to our liking and to dietary needs. The waiter was also very polite and attentive to my allergy concerns, and had answers to my questions which helped ease my anxiety greatly. Overall this is still one of my favourite restaurants in Halifax; perfect for a night out that doesn't completely empty the wallet!

Yelp
The seafood chowder was amazing!! After slurping up the bowl my partner and I made it our mission to find more seafood chowder in the Halifax area to see if anything could top it. So we hit up durty Nellys and esquire-- both very highly recommended by tourist brochures for the best seafood chowder and we gotta say armview's chowder has been untouchable!! Of course the others were great but I think just the "wow" factor hasn't been topped for us. Bravo

Yelp
Although I had heard quite a bit about 'The Armview' over the years, my car-less-ness had kept me away until this past Monday. This place is basically a great modern take on a diner. Lots of unique menu options with choices like: The Montreal smoked meat sandwich (reuben or plain with Dijon), the Highland burger with chorizo sausage and smoked gouda, as well as the grilled shrimp salad which comes with avocado, papaya, mesculin greens, shrimp and spiced cashews. Mmmm... Lots of lamb and seafood choices~ certainly made me happy! For lunch I tried the lamb burger with horiatiki salad (essentially a greek). The burger was served on a delicious ciabatta bun. My enjoyment of the meal would have improved greatly if: 1) The lemon oregano dressing had been used more sparingly. The bottom half of my ciabatta bun was soaked through with the excess dressing on the salad that had seeped off. 2) The burger needed more tzatziki. There was hardly any. Tzatziki and lamb are a winning combo, load it on! My friend tried the Mumford multigrain with mashed potato and enjoyed it. She subbed most of the ingredients off in favor of the 'personalize' menu options though so I can only really vouch for the sandwich in its altered state. Great ambience in this little restaurant! Pleasant service as well. The booths could have used with a wipe down although we were in at 1:30pm after the lunch rush so I'll give the servers a break and assume they were too busy over the rush to clean. Try this spot out! I hear good things about the brunches too.

Yelp
Retro diner meets hip DJ lounge? Yeah, I can dig it. It's like taking an authentic journey back to the good ole days if those good ole days were far cooler than they actually were. You just kinda want to run up to people's tables and start awkward PSA videos about puberty and the economy of working for a factory. No? Just me? I've been here multiple times for brunches and breakfasts that have all been really nice. The menu has a great selection and plenty of twists on old favourites. Plus they have Hollandaise sauce, so who really cares what they want to put it on so long as it gets it into your face, right? But food aside, the reason The Armview gets a five-star from me is because of the vibe. They've taken a really interesting concept and made it work with the addition of great cocktails, incredible music nights, theme parties, and more awesome than you could ever expect that close to the rotary. One of my resolutions for 2011 is to be less afraid of that traffic mess so I can be here more often.

Yelp
I haven't experienced their dining side of things, but, I have joined friends for alcoholic beverages; as I do. The service is awesome - super friendly, fast and attentive. They have a vast amount of tables and bar seating and offer live musical entertainment on Sunday evenings (I'm not sure about the rest of the week). I'm also pretty sure they use local ingredients in their menu.

Yelp
One of my fave places to brunch on a hungover Saturday or Sunday - try the rotary club..it will satisfy your (grease) hunger... Also a huge fan of their dinner menu - which offers healthy alternatives to the diner experience.. mojito chicken, best baked halibut in the city.. the list goes on. funky, retro decor juxtaposed with a bit of modern cool - i'm a fan!

Yelp
A little out of the way from my everyday wanderings, The Armview was a special trip with friends. The idea of shaking things up with a new venue was the perfect midweek remedy, and as it turns out, a tasty pub-style time. It was early evening, and this place was bustling. Although it was not a long wait for a spot, there was a bit of a kerfuffle getting situated. An initial confusion of table openings caused for a slight bend in first impressions, but the service staff quickly recovered by getting us a great booth in all efficiency. Phew- time to enjoy. This is a modern take on the old time diner. Art Deco meets traditional 50's booth seating and small town flavour. Bold patterns paint the walls, floors and fabrics, and service is approached with a well mixed, friendly attitude. The menu here is extensive, offering a full selection of pub-style variety. They mainly stick to classic selections of nacho appetizers and burgers, sandwiches and pasta main dishes, but from the plates I saw, it all appeared as yummy goodness. I ordered the local haddock, and it proved itself well. And for pub-fare, there were a few items I was curious to try. (Eg. Haddock burger, Grilled Shrimp Salad) Impressed by the seafood opportunity here. There is also a great breakfast menu here, for those who make the first meal their best meal. The Armview can certainly accommodate that. I tried a sip of a friend's milkshake, which was also something I'd like to have for myself sometime. All in all, this place seems like a nice, wholesome spot to dine and get some hearty grub. Enjoy great service, a fresh esthetic and good quality in its offerings.

Yelp
I have been here countless times with my boyfriend as well as friends and family and have never been disappointed. The service is always great, not too long of a wait when it's busy, their menu is priced very fairly, and the food is top-notch. Their brunch is always amazing. I absolutely love their smoked salmon Benedict. Their haddock burger is also another one of my favourites - never disappoints. I highly recommend this place for any meal anytime of the day. *Just to note: they recently updated their menu and have added a few really great items!*

Yelp
This place is always busy and there's good reason. This place serves typical diner food, comfort food that keeps you coming back. The consistency has obviously kept them a fixture for Halifax foodies for decades. No matter how busy the service is always fast and friendly and there's rarely a long wait for your order. The decor is 70's retro and the tunes are just as groovy. Only down side is the location, parking is limited and access off the rotary can be a challenge. I recommend parking behind the mall and walking down.
google avatar

Yelp
This place takes me back years from when I used to go after youth club for French fries and gravy with the boys. Now when I walk in I almost do not recognize it. WOW nicely decorated with wide booths fresh atmosphere. Being a chicken lover I had the sesame chicken stir fry, YUM that is all I can say. It had like a peanut taste to which was different but I like it. Portions were hearty so much that I was not able to have desert. Maybe I can save that for the next time.

Yelp
We were recently surprised, as regulars at this spot, when just last week, the wings came to our table with no sauce...OUR FAVORITE PART!! We called the server over and asked about the no sauce...usually smothered in dark BBQ sauce...he explained..oh no..we have a new chef..."Its a Franks Hot Sauce and melted butter reduction"......well ecuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me....LOL...we plowed forward and while they were not what our head was expecting they were mighty tasty...one might even say "Finger Licking Good"...but no doubt that is trademarked! :) Keep up the good work...perhaps next visit the new "Macaroni & Cheese" Always save room for the pie, made in house you order Custard Pie and can be adorned with bananas or Coconut....your choice..mmmmmmm OH and also some Crazy Faboosh music mix playing!

Donna C.

Yelp
The Armview is a nice local restaurant. Food portions are large. Good to enjoy the patio on a nice day. The fish was very fresh and tastey.
google avatar

Yelp
If you don't care about quality and just want quantity, this is the place for you. Anything I've gotten here has stuffed me full. The food quality is textbook mediocre, and the service is friendly. I don't understand the hype of this place, unless the hype is about the quantity. Not much more to say about it other than do not order the $10 mimosa. You can drink it in one gulp and it's nothing noteworthy.
google avatar

Yelp
We just had a lovely family dinner here - fantastic experience, food, and excellent service. I called ahead to arrange a birthday surprise and to alert of allergy and they were attentive to these details- thanks so much. The food was great - lots of choices. I scanned Yelp! reviews and it influenced a few choices but I ended up choosing the burger of the day, the Big Kap - yum!!! Food: What we got (and recommend): lamburger, steak sandwich, chicken stir fry, mashed potatoes, fries, fish tacos, haddock and fish and chips. (The fish was fresh! The steak was hearty!) Drinks: Good local wine selection and craft beer and really reasonable prices. Price: very affordable and good portions. Service: Super-stellar! Over-and-above! Thank you - we'll remember you for future group gatherings, as well as the odd lunch, dinner or brunch outing. TIP: parking in the back is limited but if it's a really nice day, park at a nearby street or the park or the arm and walk over.

Yelp
I like it here but less and less the more often I visit. Basically I it come down to 3-star food (nachos score much lower due to baked on grease) and the decor isn't really a plus or minus. Of course this place is hugely popular and breakfast here is something I haven't tried.
google avatar

Doug F.

Yelp
Fabulous place. Five of us went for breakfast and all was excellent. Special was Lobster Benny that was perfect. Had the nicest waitress. Going back tomorrow for dinner.

Yelp
Cost-saving method when you have eggs Benney on the menu...egg white omelettes only. I give this dish 3 whole eggs out of 5 ....

Yelp
This feels like the last of the old-school diners. I've driven past here a million times and never noticed it. Usually I'm so focused on getting around the rotary that I don't see what else might be nearby, and I didn't know about the Armview until some friends who live locally asked to meet us there. There are sort of two rooms, one with small booths, the other with somewhat larger tables. We had a group of 5 adults and 3 small kids and they were able to fit us in on a Saturday night (admittedly a bit early, 5:30pm). It's got sports TVs, colourful locals, and a menu that's familar and grounded, though with a few "stretch" items. Food was tasty and plentiful. Service was really good. It's certainly not fancy, and a lot of the decor is a nod to its former life as a barber shop. It feels quirky and neighbourhood-y. It's licensed, and has a full bar, and there were some folks sitting 'round it having a drink too. They have a tiny (like, 3 or 4 cars) parking lot behind. Otherwise, there's a public parking lot just at the rotary, at the Quinpool Rd exit.
google avatar

Ceanne L.

Yelp
Burgers are always good. But the nachos were weak. Little more expensive then a diner style with this is level experience.
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
This place can get crazy busy and parking is a pain but the views and the food is great. My favourite brunch item is the breakfast poutine. They have daily specials that nicely complement their well sized menu.
google avatar

Coffee Machine ..

Yelp
I truly wish this place could think about their breakfast in the sense of ratio of bread and potatoes to egg. I have been there more than 5 times and I always find the egg to be decoration comparing to the amount of potatoes and bread I get. If you are vegetarian and want to substitute ham for grilled tomatoes, they are not going to come juicy and with the grilled marks. Instead will be salad style cut tomatoes that are just warm. Perhaps the butter could be always offered on the side and not pre-packed. The coffee is good but I wish the spoon wouldn't be dipped in it. I find that if you don't order an expensive dish, you are in for disappointment. The breakfast burrito wasn't that filling for the price if you don't want the fries.
google avatar

Lyndia R.

Yelp
About 25 of us ate here. The service was fast and accurate. I had the classic burger and fries. Burger was thick and juicy and the fries were hot and crispy. This was one of the least expensive meals I had on my trip.
google avatar

Kell S.

Yelp
One of my favourite places to go for brunch! I'm sad that I was so disappointed with the food I had there today. The service was excellent as always. I know I'll go back again and try something different and hopefully better

Yelp
I'm very happy with the service may friend, her daughter and I had yesterday. Our server was very polite and great to have! He was very attentive, patient and on the ball. He listened to what my friends little one wanted and got it for her. The food it self was delicious and coffee was hot and tasted great! My compliments to the chef for sure! I would like to say we'd be back for sure!!

Luke C.

Yelp
Great service. Low key atmosphere. Great chilling classic rock playlist. But most of all, amazing food at unreal prices. The shrimp olio pasta, calamari, fish tacos. Such a good decision coming here for our late dinner from the R/V!
google avatar

Bunster Y.

Yelp
One of the few restaurants that open late ( although kitchen closes at 10 p.m. but the bar side remains open until midlight). Many locals hangout there for drinks and food. Food was medicore. Ordered shrimp pasta for $16. Better than expected, shrimps were seasoned well and fresh! Service was so-so. Only one girl works at the bar, takes orders and takes care of bills. It took a while to place order because the bar was busy. Food delivery and service was prompt. Again, paying the bill took a while because they had only 1.5 staff working at the lounge side after hours. Maybe during the day would have been different. Overall good local restaurant experience.

Yelp
When we went in waiter gave us water to start of with drinks when receiving the water the water was dirty the cups were used and unclean and my partner to drink there was hair on the lid/mouth of the cup. No problem we brushed it off we order our food I've got my go food, when receiving my food I tasted my fries it was good but continuing to eat it there was hair fried in with the fries I was disgusted, I brushed it off again which I shouldn't oof and continued eating, going over to my chicken wings that I ordered taste is so horrible it's not done properly I did not even receive sauce until I ask for it me still thinking about the hair I didn't even get to my third chicken wings and it was hair also engraved in the wings that's when I had enough and didn't eat anymore the waiter took it back, I didn't have to pay I was satisfied with that but my partners meal was not fresh fries were not fresh the fish was very fishy so much oil. I don't recommend I think a lot of people go here without not looking at their food and just shoving it into their mouth I suggest looking at your food before eating which is what I have always done,

Yelp
This is where the bf takes me when I'm sad, sooking, or mad at him. I always leave in a much better mood. The Armview is my #1 spot for breakfast. I love Breakfast; I love Breakfast anytime of the day. It is my fave meal of the day. I love Breakfast. (another one of those "b" words that deserves a capital) That being said, The Armview has something special going on. It reminds me of an old time diner with spectacular grub and fantastic service. I throughly enjoy the many options for eggs benny( smoked salmon, roasted asparagus, ham, or bacon) which is my fave breakfast meal. The Brunch menu is perfect for the bf and me, since he does not get as excited as I do over breakfast. Their lunch and dinner menu has some great options as well. I LOVE LOVE the avacado wrap. Yum yum. Service is A-1, and prices are very good. I have yet to have a bad experience and I have absolutely nothing to complain about.
google avatar

Yelp
The Armview has a fantastic patio, if you can overlook the swirling traffic making its way through the rotary. In the summer especially, this place is bumping, with people popping by after a hard day's work and folks in their bathers coming for some chow post-swim at one of the surrounding lakes. I like this bar/diner as a good place to grab a bite with friends. It's modern and fun, with some inspired menu items sure to sate any appetite. In the summer, I fervently enjoyed stopping by with my amigos to grab a pitcher and some nachos after working up an appetite engaging in quintessentially summer activities. It can be hard to score a patio seat, especially on a summer's day - but it's worth the wait. The inside can be a tad stuffy for my liking, and I enjoy being able to look out over the arm while I sip a Rickard's White. They dish out ample serving of all your favorite pub fare while incorporating some more refined ingredients. The fries are great and my friend's meat burger was piled high with toppings. I suggest this joint as a great neighborhood locale, perfect for bevies, snacks and gossip.

Yelp
The Armview is our new go-to place. We love it there. The food is fantastic, the service is great. We might be a little biased as their catering branch, Uptown Catering, did our wedding in December, so The Armview definitely holds a very special place in our hearts. Our last trip there was on a Friday night with a party of eight for supper. The youngest in our party was four and the oldest over sixty. There was something there for everyone. They have a really great kids' menu and their specials are always worth checking out. Dinner for eight, including three alcoholic beverages, was $133, and everyone raved about the food. Some of our favourites include The Mumford ultigrain #2, The Dagwood, The Hyland burger, and the Lamb burger. The fries there are delicious, but you really can't go wrong with a side of horiatiki salad. If you haven't been, go. You might never go anywhere else.

Yelp
We've heard lots of buzz about the Armview as being "The Cool Place" for brunch. I had my doubts, after all it's been here forever, and it doesn't look like much from the outside, but the menu was certainly impressive when I checked it out on line. www.thearmview.com When we walked in it was like taking a step back into the 1950's. On closer inspection, the upholstery etc, have been redone, but the feel is the same. We sat in the front, which looked small, but there is a larger back room. It's very kid friendly and has an extensive menu. We were there for our ritual weekend diner breakfast - eggs, bacon and home fries and they certainly rank high. Twice as much bacon (a big plus for me) as anywhere else and eggs perfectly cooks. Now I can't wait to go back for a real diner lunch special BLT? Club Sandwich? Or my all time favorite diner food - the hot chicken sandwich.

Yelp
I can't believe I have lived in Halifax my whole life, and the North End for over 2 years and I have never visited this little diner before now! Anyway, I finally got there, and I think it might be a new favourite weekend breakfast spot! It is probably one of the smaller diners I have ever seen, but they have it laid out in an organized way plus the quirky mini-ness just adds to its charm for me. There is certainly nothing fancy about this place, but there is a super friendly, down-home atmosphere that makes you feel like a regular even if it's your first time. The food feels like something your grandmother would make for you - simple recipes and ingredients that harken back to a simpler, more communicative time when everything was fresh and made at home surrounded by family and love. (they don't even take debit or credit - can't get any more old-fashioned than that!) Besides, "no frills" is just my style. A "fancy" meal is nice once in a while, but most of the time my eating-out needs are pretty simple - good food, served hot and fast, friendly service and good prices. This place ticks all those boxes for me. It is easy to see why this place has been in business for so long - they obviously have their system down to a science because our food came out piping hot and fresh within 10 minutes. My entire plate of Eggs Benny was smothered in delish hollandaise sauce and I think the home fries were some of the best I have had in a long time (the boy seemed to think they used Cajun seasoning on them, which could be part of the reason for the yummy flavour). Lets just say I took care of part of the dish washing for them by licking my plate completely clean. I will definitely go back to this place again the next time we want a fast, yummy, cheap breakfast and a reminder that the best food is often the simplest.

Yelp
Diner to Disco, two of my fav things. Breakfast or brunch for the not yet showered is a perfect offering for the weekend crowd. The menu covers all the usual suspects while tossing in a few cool options for eggs Bennie. This week was my first lunch experience with the wide selection of menu choices. That said, I wimped out for the hamburger and fries, caving into the up sell and adding bacon and cheese. Wow is all I can say. This burger has to be homemade as the paddy alone was a taste explosion. My lunch companion was my father in law who has been a sales rep on the road for 100 years. This man has had his share of fries and couldn't stop raving about these fresh cut treats. The truly cool thing about The Armview is the weekend night vibe that comes out of no where. This unassuming dinner has a fantastic sound system that a DJ can max out on various weekends. One minute your finishing dinner, the next minute you are surrounded by the hipper people for endless cocktails. Turning a diner into a lounge is their X factor and they do it well.

Yelp
Me and my girl friend stopped here last night for a late dinner. The atmosphere was a little more laid back then I expected ( a good thing ) I wanted the lamb burger but unfortunately they had run out earlier. The server seemed to feel bad about that. I ended up getting the curry scallop linguine, it was really good, how ever it could have used a little more curry. ( I like spicy food )We ended up getting a free slice of apple pie to make up for the lamb burger I was set on, that had run out. All in all a good experience! Would go back again!

Yelp
Mike and I stopped in early on a Saturday afternoon. We just beat an afternoon rush and were able to snag a good booth. (I have the feeling this place is always busy and we just hit a short lull.) The restaurant is H-shaped, with a long, narrow main area, a short hall, and then a second room with more booths around the corner. They also have VLTs, which I was not expecting in a diner. I was disappointed with the menu, as we didn't realize it was brunch-only this time of day (almost 1 p.m.). I was looking for something more lunch-centred. However, even if we had come for brunch I would have been disappointed; almost every single item (and there are a lot of items) was egg-centred. I love eggs, but I also like variety, and that was lacking. Also odd: paying an extra $2.50 if you want maple syrup on your French toast. Otherwise you get a bottle of Aunt Jemima, and it's noted on the menu like it's great to get a cheap bottle of fake "pancake syrup" with your food. Uh-huh. We both ordered fish and chips as we weren't looking for eggs that afternoon. We watched people come in after us, get their orders, and leave ... after we had placed our order. It was taking forever. The server was apologetic; apparently they make their battered fish from scratch so it was taking awhile. Nice, but not acceptable in a non-fine-dining establishment. However, the fish was excellent when it finally arrived. Hot, light, crisp and cooked to perfection. The home fries were excellent as well. Prices are a bit higher than one would expect in a diner, even a hipster one. The booths are uncomfortable. Despite the good food I won't be in a hurry to return.

Yelp
I like this place :) The food is great... pretty sure everything is homemade from the taste of everything I have ever tried. I have tried the cheeseburger, fish burger, and lamb burger (yes, I like burgers!) :p All were amazing. I never seem disappointed with anything here, *except* for the last time I was there, I asked for a pickle on my burger and when I got the bill they had charged me $2.00 for it !!! No worries, there goes your tip - no skin off my back; if you're going to be so damn cheap to charge a customer for a pickle then you're not getting a tip from me... you can use the $2 and take it up with your boss. Anyways, great food, not-so-great service (all 3 times we have gone), but whatever, it is Halifax... I'm thinking you pretty much have to pay over $100 for your meal in this city to get decent service.

Yelp
The Armview is always one of our first choices when trying to find a place that everyone in our group will like. There is a bit of everything on the menu and I have never had a bad dish here. The Chilean Greens Salad and the Hyland Burger are two of my favorite dishes. They change the menu for the seasons and have new daily specials, so there is always something new to try out. Great atmosphere, decor, wait staff and food. :) Two thumbs up! Can't wait for the patio to open for the Summer!!

Yelp
What can I say about Armview? It's our go-to place when we just can't decide on somewhere else. We've been here for breakfast, lunch, dinner & brunch, and haven't had a bad meal yet. They usually have a brunch benny special, and the last time I went it was a short rib benny. Oh my! Succelent short rib, perfectly cooked soft eggs, with delicious hollandaise. Love the homefries too! Armview also has excellent fries, but I'm not too crazy about the gravy. Maybe it was just a bit off the time I had it. I've had many of their sandwhiches and burgers, and they've all been great. Service is friendly and prompt, and the food comes to the table really quickly. They also make a delicious shirley temple! Great prices!
