Arnside Chip Shop delivered a mixed but mostly positive experience. I tried their cod fish and chips, and fish-wise, it was probably one of the best battered cod I've had in the Lakes. The fish was noticeably fresh, you can even occasionally see a chef filleting it right there, which adds to the authenticity.
However, the chips were quite soggy rather than crisp, which made them a bit hard to finish and somewhat disappointing. The tartare sauce was okay. I also tried the battered haggis, which was okay but nothing remarkable.
The portion sizes are generous, which is worth noting. Service was fine, and it's clear the place is popular, as there's often a long queue outside.
