My husband and I were in the Ashland area today and found Around The Table after a Google search. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The atmosphere was quite charming, calm, and pleasant. My husband ordered the Bologna burger and I ordered the seafood platter. To my delight the food arrived quickly. My husband gave great accolades for his Bologna burger and side of crinkle fries (they were yummy as I had several). My seafood dish was fantabulous except for the fish. The crab cake was divine and looked like it had little to no filler. The shrimp were huge and tender. There were 2 pieces of fried fish with very little meat and had several bones within. Though it had a very delectable coating, it was tough, chewy, and hard to swallow I'm sad to say. Very subpar compared to the rest of the meal. I would highly recommend acquiring a new fishmonger asap! The cornbread muffin was delicious. The accompanying Cole slaw was dynamite (my husband agreed) and the collard greens were the !!! OMG! Mmmmm mmmm gooood The service was excellent and on point! The interior was squeaky clean and the music quite pleasant. My rating: B+. It would have been A+ had the fish been as exceptional as the rest of the meal.

The laughter from cousins, the smells of granny in the kitchen cooking, hugging your favorite aunt that makes the best Mac and Cheese and leaving with your belly and heart full from good food and family. This is Around the Table. A family owned restaurant where everyone who walks in becomes family. I came in to get food to go after church which is probably their busiest day. The dining room was full of families eating after church or just enjoying a Sunday together. reservations are suggested. I went to the register and was met by one of the owners Ms Kelly with a warm smile. She made suggestions to my daughter and I and quickly got our orders in. They have everything from pork chops to catfish. From Mac and cheese to corn pudding and cabbage. And talk about Homemade desserts! Whew. While we waited for our food and we could watch the football game that was on the tv. We also met the other owner Ms Amie! They have an event space in the space next door and they were hosting a birthday party and catering the entire event. Every staff member I came in contact with had A1 customer service and with a smile. Our food was ready pretty fast and when it came up they went thru our whole bag with us to show our pipping hot order was correct. We barely made it to the car before we had sleeves rolled up and forks in. I highly suggest the Catfish with Cabbage, Yams and Corn Pudding. My daughter had cabbage and Mac and cheese and we shared some pound cake that was perfection. If you need a good home cooked meal and wanna feel the warmth of family I recommend you hurry to Around the table.

Ate there last night for the first time. Everything that I ordered was delicious. The restaurant was clean. The service was great.

I was so upset yesterday when I got my food that I paid 90.00. I have no problem supporting black businesses but once again very upset. The fried chicken hardly had and breading, this was the same for the pork chops. The Mac and cheese tasted like stoffers, the greens were salty, but the cabbage was good.

Homemade. Check! Welcoming. Check! Amazing food. Triple check! We just moved to the area and I really wanted some good ole home cooking and something different than the usual. This place is so close to our house-10 minutes! This place is hidden in the corner of a shopping center that looks almost abandoned. But don't let the looks deceive you. This place is amazing! The food is hands down a 10! We had the crabcakes which had hardly any fillers, the fried chicken which was seasoned and fried to perfection and all the sides- Mac n cheese, coleslaw, sweet bread, potato salad, and corn bread. Yummy! We loved it and will definitely be back!

I've only had takeout from here, but this was a cool find thanks to my mom. Hidden gem. Great Southern food made similar to home when you don't feel like cooking. I'm in love with their spoonbread!! Only gripe was their meatloaf - a bit too salty but can be leveled with the right amount of mashed potatoes.

This place is soul food personified. While it looks small on the outside it's quite spacious inside. The wait staff was super nice and accommodating. This was our first time trying this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised for our meals my mom opted for fried fish (whiting) her two sides of choice were coleslaw and sweet potatoes but she got an extra side of corn pudding my meal I opted for the smothered chicken livers and added a crab cake my sides were spoon bread and collard greens with an extra side of cabbage. Everything I tasted was delicious my mom didn't care for the coleslaw but she said it wasn't bad just wasn't for her. We had to eat kind of fast because the flies started coming in I also took a piece of apple cobbler home but I should've eaten it inside. All in all my only critique was I wish the food was a tad bit hotter I wanted to see smoke but the flavors were on point. I will be back on a Friday for turkey wings! They really make you feel like family there! Almost forgot the cornbread with each meal melts in your mouth!

I was in toen from Baltimore (3 hrs away) and happened upon this place with my cousin. We dropped in and had THE best seafood platter, pound cake, and service. The server Sha Sha was fantastic and welcoming. The owner Ammie was a delight, happy, and welcoming just the same. If I'm EVER around this way again, it's Around The Table for me!

We were passing through and found this cute restaurant. They greet you like you are family when you walk in. Kira was our server and she took great care of us. We both had the special of the day - meatloaf. I come from a long line of southern cooks and my grandparents owned a restaurant for years. This was the BEST meatloaf I've ever had. Everything was just delicious. If you find yourself near Ashland, this place is a MUST.

People were friendly. I did not enjoy the food...greens were salty and tough. Also, mac and cheese dry.

Great food, excellent service and southern hospitality. I'm from the west coast and in my area we do not have access to soul food. Highly recommend the smothered pork chops and fried chicken.

Stopped by this spot while traveling through the area. Fried chicken was amazing. Sides were just average to me. Service was super friendly and helpful, but server left to go on an errand and got forgotten about - so I had to go to the register to get another drink and ask for my check.

Service was great,the food is out of this world.Haven't had food this good in years.If my mom was still here i think she would agree with me that the food comes vert close to he cooking.Great job ladies.

Southern hospitality on display. The staff wee so laid back, cheerful and helpful. The restaurant has the feel of home and a spot in a small town - very authentic and welcoming feel. The highlight of this dinner was the potato salad. It tasted amazing, creamy and hearty. The gravy with the por chop was so good I slurped it down fast! The plate had 2 big slices of chops that were so tender. The amount of onion was just perfect. The plate may not look appetizing but the food tasted so good and felt like grandma was cooking in the back! Mac and cheese was ok - this is subjective because I am not a mac cheese person. The corn bread would have been beter warm and with soft butter. Good place for families!

Everything was so good! We always get the fried chicken and it's always so crisp and juicy, the spoonbread is also delicious. Service is always great as well as the food is super affordable. Plenty of nice big tables to sit at, as well it seems they have a banquet room.

I went 08/10/2025 and I'm already looking forward to going back. I had the fried chicken, collard greens, and green beans. My chicken was so piping hot I had to wait to eat it. I'm a green good lover and the collard greens, oh my. Although there was not meat in it that I could see (no ham hock or other meat) it was delicious. The green beans were okay but it was because I saw the cabbage another person was eating that had me "oh, I made a mistake". The servers were above the norm...friendly and made me feel at home. I going for their 4 vegetables next time! You won't be disappointed choosing this awesome place.

Wow just wow! The whiting fish was amazing! The sides are out of this world!! This is a small owner business!!! You definitely need to try it! We drove about an hour to try it out and it did not disappoint! Thursday evening and we had to wait for a table so we k ew it was going to be great! The staff is friendly and you feel just like family here! The interior is very clean and very relaxing! The price and portions are phenomenal! I had enough room for ice cream and it was delicious as well! The tea is real southern tea! If your in the area and want something that you can't get everyday or just a change from the same ole same ole then come here! It's in the shopping center with Roses and Harbor Freight! Right off 95! I didn't even think to get a pic because I dove right in as soon as it came!

A great phone find by the wife while we were zipping along 95 headed to N.C. This little place (in corner of a big strip mall) is welcoming and feels fgood from the moment you walk in. Annie (I guess) greets you like your family, and you seat yourself. The decor is simple, and clean, almost Spartan (I like that, can't stand over decorated spaces). The menu is one-page front and back (I like that too). The wife tried the Baloney Burger, I got a club sandwich and fried okra. We started with onion rings, ended up with two orders of fries as well (server mistake). I guess there is really no mystery how we put back on the 40lb we had lost during covid ! Anyway, the food is simple, well prepared and certainly demonstrates the wonderful personal story behind the restaurant. The baloney was thick slab, fried perfectly, her only minor complaint was the burger bun didn't quite hold up to all the goodness happening from the meat, mayo, lettuce, fried onion. Maybe a texas toast or sourdough or kaiser would be better than traditional burger bun? My club was straightforward, lots of lunchmeat turkey, ham, good bacon. The bread was standard loaf, toasted nicely. Again as an upgrade a sturdier slice/bigger slice would carry all the stuffings better. All the fried things were well done, clean oil obviously. The place smelled clean and looked clean. Annie and her team has done well, this is a quality place. We would certainly come back.

I love the name of this place, so fitting Around the Table, you can feel the love when walking into the restaurant, the greeting, the laughter of other guests as they gather Around the Table for a home cooked meal. The restaurant's decor was nothing to get excited over, it's minimal but don't let that stop you from enjoying a good meal. I ordered the Thursday special meat loaf with a brown gravy and order three sides, I couldn't make a decision on just two so I added another side to my order, Mac and cheese delicious, fried okra and spoon bread which was heavenly. The only critique I have is some of the items had a little too much salt. Special thanks to the server My'Quisha for her hospitality.

My family decided to do a day trip and we met up there for lunch and to celebrate a birthday. We drove down from Maryland. Around the table did not disappoint! It was very quaint! It also, had a room next door for events. It was decorated beautifully for an event someone was having. Now to the food! I had the rib special with collards and corn pudding. I had to ask a lot of questions about the corn pudding! I did not want cream corn! I wanted corn pudding! Well, that was the best corn pudding I ever had! I know a lot of people don't like corn pudding, but if u do? Go and try theirs!! I made 2 meals off the ribs special! They were so good they fell off the bone! The greens were good. Not chopped up very well, but tasted ok. Everyone said their meals were really good also. The catfish was really good. They said the seafood platter was good also. Their sides were spoon bread and cabbage Mac and cheese. The corn bread muffins were like cake! The owner came over and talked to us. Which was nice. The waitress was great also! I never think about pics before I mess up the plate. After tasting the food, no one even talked for the first few minutes! So, if u are going up or down 95 South, stop in Ashland and get some awesome Soul Food!

I ordered ahead, the warm cornbread was the icing on the cake. I had 4 wings yams and Mac and cheese 9/10 . Add black pepper to your Mac 10/10. Very friendly / home cooked vibes.

Our server was so sweet and helpful, recommended the smothered pork chops, greens, fried chicken and spoon bread! She checked back several times. It was delicious, if you like fried southern cooking, here's your place!

We were introduced to Ms. Amy's Around the Table while my Grandson was a student at Randolph-Macon. After getting him settled-in last year, my Son and Family visited there for some vittles. He (They) called me in North Carolina and were overwhelmed by the home-cooked food, as well as the hospitality! They said that was "Granny Buie's" (my deceased Mom) cooking from Heaven. Two weeks later, I was Around the Table, with family, and just as for the same reason Ms. Amy named the restaurant, the best family-time takes place "around the table." It's one of the most wonderful experiences I've had, for we felt just like God had sent us family to eat meals with; strangers were not strangers. That's because Ms. Amy and her Staff provided and set the stage for a Sunday afternoon dinner ambiance (every day), TVs in tact. Perhaps she'll consider expanding here to Greensboro(?).

Overall the food was good. My only two are complaint that the chicken wings needed a tad more seasoning but they were piping hot when the come out. The green beans had great flavor but were lukewarm. The service was top notch I would definitely comeback and try more menu items.

Food is so good, especially-in our case anyway-the chicken livers!!! The staff is very nice and welcoming, and I've never seen a customer there who did not look happy.

After leaving the VA State Fair my husband and I wanted some "real" food before getting on the road to head back home. We found Around the Table on Yelp. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming and we were greeted by staff immediately after arriving. The place was already full when we arrived but we had just a short wait before a table was cleared and cleaned for us. The food: Hubby ordered smothered pork chops, potato salad and cabbage and I had baked chicken, mac n cheese and cabbage. Everything was decent except the cabbage, which had been cooked to almost mush. We obviously got what was at the bottom of the pot. I ordered a slice of pound cake to go and it was definitely home made and left me wishing I had purchased 2 slices. The Service: Kyra was a very attentive server and able to answer all our questions about how food was prepared, ingredients (inquired about spoon bread) etc. She was one of about 3 servers that day but she was on point. Value: We thought that for the quality of food the price was very reasonable. Whenever we are in the area, we will definitely stop in and talked about taking the 1 1/2 hr drive from home sometimes just to stop in. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers for not letting me down on this one.

My husband and I had dinner at this lovely restaurant on Saturday June 14 th. We were welcomed like family as though we ate dinner there ever night. We were traveling back to Pennsylvania. The food is absolutely delicious and very generous. Tables were filled with families, young and older couples who were enjoying their dinners and appreciative of the kind service. Sincerely Nancy

My wife and I visited this restaurant today and I must say that it was amazing. First, the reception for the staff was inviting, friendly, professional, and courteous. It was so infectious that the other customers acknowledge the same as they waited for their food. The menu was extremely appetizing. My wife ordered the Whiting Fish Sandwich and Lemonade for herself and Spoon bread for me. Spoon bread is a rare commodity these days and finding someone that can actually made it from scratch and taste good is a miracle. This place did it and it was so good! My wife's Fish Sandwich looked and tasted fresh and golden brown. I will definitely order my own the next time that I visit. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. It is not far off of the 1-95 corridor and well worth the travel. The food is reasonably price, plenty of space to socially distance in accordance to COVID-19 protocol and the ambiance is cozy and nice. The in an era where many businesses are closing due to the pandemic, you can tell that the anointing of God is on this establishment. From the voices of the customers from the local area, this establishment is a blessing to the community. Please support this establishment!

It's not easy to write this review...simply because I have to put my fork down to type. LOL!! It wasn't what I was expecting when I pulled up (being in a strip mall) but don't judge a book by its cover as the saying goes. When I opened the door, I was greeted immediately with a warm welcome by both my waitress Ashley and the owner Ammie. It is an authentic soul food menu. If you like chicken livers, I highly recommend!! I got them fried. Trust me, they know how to cook livers!! Fellow chicken liver lovers will know how this is an important issue when ordering livers...when you know, you know - and Ammie has shared the art of making them just right with her staff. Perfectly prepared! Let's talk about spoonbread...many people haven't heard of this yummy side dish. Ammie has it down! And the collard greens - delicious!! The decor is nothing over the top - just a little soulful restaurant serving great food!! I also have to make it a point to mention Annie's story - the fact that she puts that on her menu speaks volumes regarding the hope of achieving your dreams when you have faith in God to open the doors at just the right time. For dessert, I selected the peach cobbler. Excellent blend of peaches & cinnamon with a good mix of crust in the dish. You can't go wrong with Around the Table! Menu and meal pics included

The food was delicious and affordable at this off the beaten path hidden gem. I stopped to grab a Sunday lunch since traffic was bad on 95 and was happy I did. The kitchen couldn't keep up with the demand but I guess that's a good thing unless you are in a hurry

We tried this restaurant on a whim. Husband is in town for work and I wanted some good country cooking. The restaurant is clean, the staff are smiling and friendly. And the meatloaf was AWESOME! The mashed potatoes were so creamy and yummy. The owner/chef Ammie even came out to the table to check on us. She was so gracious and humble. We will most definitely be back. If you are in town and want a great home-cooked style meal, you MUST try Around the Table!

Excellent service! Very popular restaurant so please have patience. The food is worth the wait! The proprietors and waiters are very friendly and you're treated like family. The ambiance gives you the feeling of home just like the name says...."Around The Table"!

The owners of this place present an appealing story that makes me sad to present a relatively unfavorable review, but honesty to my fellow consumers must take first priority. We ate on the day after a major snowstorm, entering a fairly barren eating space with a number of tables, only one of which was occupied. The restaurant was out of a number of their standard dishes. My wife had the fish sandwich and I had the fried fish platter, which were OK. But the sides were seriously wanting. My wife is a connoisseur of mac and cheeses, and she was pleased to perceive that it was baked mac and cheese, not boiled, but it tasted to her as if it came out of a box. Spoonbread was runny, genuinely unpleasant texture, and my wife found the collard greens to be inedibly salty. Service was fine. But although the sign at the door said masks were required to enter, our wait person was not wearing a mask at all. Nor were the other diners. Yuck.

The food was so good! The service was even better, all of the servers and the owner Amy was such a sweetheart and made me feel so welcomed! I definitely recommend for anyone who is in the area to stop by!

Yummy food. Very nice owner. We just chowed down big-time after a long morning of showing up at Doswell. Southern home style cooking. Highly recommend the fried fish and the wings. Desserts are homemade. Good coffee, too.

Once again. Around The Table fed and cared for us with a lunch of meatloaf, fried fish, and delectable vegetable sides. Get the fried fish. Best I've ever had! The coating was gossamer-thin, beautifully seasoned, and crispy with the fish perfectly cooked and moist. Oh my. Fried okra was top notch. Husband loved his meatloaf with yams and green beans. The iced tea was great too. Be blessed and come for a meal!

The food was amazing if you want Southern catfish, look no further I really like the vibe here. It's nice to have a local spot down the street from my house but I would consider this a destination because real southern soul food isn't easy to come by and I think it would be worth the drive to come to this Restaurant? The only negative I would say is they had a young and clearly untrained wait staff, which seemed to be a bit confused at times, but it was worth dealing with for the delicious food

Excellent authentic soul food with gigantic servings and very reasonably priced. One wonders how they make money. Delicious friend chicken and catfish. Mac and cheese and collards perfect. Many selections including some vegetarian. Clean pleasant establishment with friendly staff free refills on drinks. Clean bathrooms. Very busy after church on Sundays. Had quite a wait but worth it.

When we arrived, no one else was there. Service was pretty slow tho the waitress was friendly. Took about 15 mins to get our drinks then 30-40 mins to get our food. By this time, a few more folks arrived. Food was very good. I had the fish sandwich with potato salad and my partner had a burger with collards. Everything was really good. Collards were a little salty but good. I wish the sandwich automatically came with tarter sauce. Took another 10 mins to get that. Took about 20 mins to get a refill of tea and the check. They can definitely work on efficiency. We will be back.

Wonderful staff and the food is good I would recommend to anyone who's looking for some southern comfort food.

Mac & cheese was perfect this time. Ordered the catfish again because it's that good!! Tried the cabbage and it was on point. Definitely two thumbs up to this place. You won't be disappointed.

So I've heard good things about this newer soul food restaurant in Ashland. My younger brother loves seafood especially fried fish so I thought it would be nice to surprise him with an early dinner. He couldn't say enough positives about the food, fish, Mac and cheese and cabbage and corn muffin was really good. I did sample the cabbage and Mac and they were both really good. I'm not big on fish...yeah I know I know so I didn't sample that. What did catch my attention was spoon bread or some may know it as "batterbread". I wish I hadn't wasted my $3 for a side of it. I'll say because I've made it a few times that it was not incorporated very well, it's like all the cornmeal was on the bottom and the "custard" was all on top versus mixed to form an also soufflé..so yeah I'm the trash it went, definitely inedible. So sad as I relive the moment. I will definitely go back as they have a very tasty looking menu.

Best part of our trip was stopping here for wonderful food! Everything was hot fresh and delicious. We tried the smothered chicken livers and fried chicken livers and spoonbread and collard greens. Service and atmosphere made us feel At home and welcome! We will be back!
