On the Grid : Arsenal Cider House & Garden

"Specializing in small batch wine-style hard fruit cider and mead, Arsenal is a welcome addition to Lawrenceville. If you happen to be visiting during the warmer months be sure to stop by the cider garden around the corner for performances by local bands and delicious food by one of Pittsburgh’s many food trucks." - Ashley Fennell

Such great vibes! Our server Ali was wonderful and so attentive. Got a cider flight, the pear was my favorite. You also had the option to add cider sorbet to your flight. They had grape when we visited, it was so refreshing and yum. The pretzels were also really good! They had a huge selection of ciders and beers it was hard to choose! They have a rooftop area that you can hangout and order drinks at. It was quiet up there I wish they had some music or something.

Google
Arsenal!! Very spacious inside. Upstairs and downstairs. A variety of beers and ciders. Did not try the food but I’m sure it is pretty good! Definitely a nice hangout spot.

Google
Bar staff not knowledgeable about IDs from other states. NEVER had an issue anywhere in PA providing our out of state digital ID. Most people just think thats cool and it starts a great conversation. Refused because bar staff did not have a digital scanner. Bar staff did not scan my physical ID to verify me!? Bar staff GOOGLED an ‘answer’ and refused. There is NO explicit law forbidding the acceptance of an out of state digital ID. It is CLEAR to see my wife and I are of age. Hope next experience is better.

Google
The food was pretty good even though it's just sandwiches and chips and a few apps. The ciders are always great too. Definitely want to go back for more cider some time!

Google
My husband and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner here since it is where we had a our first date. They were so accommodating and even helped us to move locations last minute due to weather. The drinks were delicious, as always, and the staff was so kind.

Google
Cool little place with a great selection of ciders and other mostly local libations. We had the hummus and the pastrami and both were great.

Google
Service was incredible!! Shout out to Kris, she’s amazing! Also the ginger beer slushee was insane! we got the pretzels with mustard and cheese and we were able to play some board games. Overall a great time! :)

Google
I didnt eat any food. Atmosphere was great. Nice and clean. Ciders were very good. Would recommend going again with friends in the future.

Yelp
Kris is a fantastic server. She really works hard to take care of the whole bar and tables. She always has a smile The food and cider are delicious. I loved the Italian Sandwich. The chips are great too. Great entertainment- Fig Acoustic! We really enjoyed our evening.

Yelp
It was a nice night out for karaoke, ambiance was nice and relaxed yet fun. Food at the bar came with a cubano, service was good and supportive. Enjoyed the holiday season with a few jams and the iced wine was unexpected but fresh.

Shyann G.

Yelp
Rude and unprofessional staff. No wonder this place is dead on a Friday night when everywhere else is so busy.

Yelp
With a nice big patio and family friendly atmosphere this was a great place for an afternoon gathering. There were plenty of drinks to choose from aside from cider, though plenty of cider too! Food options were a bit limited outside of sandwiches, but the soft pretzels were fantastic. I will absolutely come back next time I'm craving a pretzel and a beer. Staff was friendly and service was quick.

Yelp
I really liked this place! I'm not the biggest cider fan but they still had a nice selection of seltzers, and my friends really liked the ciders. The inside is so cute and they had a live band playing, very fun atmosphere and the servers were so nice and friendly!

Yelp
I love Arsenal cider and had been meaning to go to the Dormont location for ages. I'm glad we finally got there. The food was okay, but the ciders were wonderful. I've liked every Arsenal cider I've tried and it was great to be able to get a flight ciders I hadn't tried yet! The service was friendly and I loved all the signs for their ciders. The bar vibe was cool, too. I'm sure we'll return. I'm a big fan of Their ciders and they had beer for the non cider fans, too.

Yelp
Delicious ciders. Had the opportunity to try three - especially liked Cranberry! *Will stop in whenever I'm in Pit

Yelp
Arsenal is an absolute MUST visit in Pittsburgh, especially in the fall! The cozy backyard patio is perfect for a date or just hanging out with friends. I make it a point to go every year during the fall season, and the pumpkin cider is a must-try--it never disappoints!

Yelp
This was my first time to the Dormont location. I have been to the Lawrenceville location in the city many times. Always super impressed with the offerings of cider. This place in Dormont is certainly unique, it has a lot of seating, A large bar, an upstairs patio that is open air, and an event room in the back. They have live music, trivia events and other forms of entertainment. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable of all of the products they sell and are very attentive to all of the patrons. It couldn't be a more pleasant bunch of people who clearly like where they work. And the most impressive part of all of it is an incredible selection of ciders on draft, bottled ciders, wine and mead, all made by Arsenal. And it's not just cider and wine, they carry canned and bottled beer from micro breweries all over Pennsylvania. On my recent trip to this location I went with friends and we ordered every sandwich on the menue and we all tried a piece of each one. And every single sandwich knock it out of the park. Some of the highlights for me personally are the pastrami and corned beef, which are handmade on location by the owner. WOW!! I highly recommend a visit.

Yelp
Came for music trivia, left abundantly satisfied. Felt like a midweek adventure so the "local trivia" google blast went out and sure enough arsenal has music trivia on Wednesday! We aren't any good at normal trivia so figured we'd try our hand at music. Pretty nice aized crowd for music trivia. Me and me lady both got the dry ciders I believe she got the ellbeck which she throughly enjoyed and I got the house choice I think the Pickett - love dry ciders so this was right up my alley (note my favorite cider is Magners so I mentally compare my drafts to that pallet). For $5.00 you can get two soft pretzels, which with all things considered that is a screaming good deal. They were very good great crunch to softness ratio - my only complaint would be the salt but you can knock that off! Cheese sauce was top notch, cheese sauce can honestly make or break but this cheese sauce helped continue to make this dish worth it. We got two sandwiches and split both - the grilled cheese and the spicy chicken. There was a clear winner in the best sandy between the two - Buffalo chickwn by a landslide both were good but the way the Buffalo chickwn came together was splendid. These were what you would expect from paninis cheesy smashed goodness. The grill cheese for me was saved by the onion jam without it I would have been looking at me lady asking for the other half of the Buffalo chicken but the onion jam was saving grace and really brought together the grilled cheese. The wait staff was amazing start to finish from the moment we called and asked about trivia to the moment we paid for the bill and left. Really enjoyed our time at Arsenal Cider house, will most likely return for more trivia in the future!

Yelp
One star off for a very small food menu. I'd add fries and flatbreads. Rest was really perfect. Good cider, mead and beer selections. Their own ciders range from extra dry to sweet and provide plenty of variety to make a flight worth it. Friendly service and a usable terrace make it nice for a date night or evening with friends. Prices are reasonable and parking was not an issue on a Thursday night.

Yelp
We were visiting some friends in the area and were extremely excited to see the Dormont location was open. We arrived on a Saturday in the early afternoon and it was pretty empty. We were seated right away and started trying the ciders. They allow for you to taste it to make sure you like it so make sure you try it first. We ordered at least one of each between the group. All the ciders are amazing so you'll definitely find the one that meets your needs. Personally , I suggest the Murray's Mead ( Cinnamon snowbound is my absolute favorite but it's seasonal). They also have plenty of other beers (including GF IPAs), wine, and cocktails. We only ordered cider because that's why we came! They also sell food as well. We didn't order food because we didn't know they served food but when we come back we will try it. There is plenty of seating inside and they also have upstairs outdoor seating but it wasn't the nicest day so it wasn't open. 10/10 will always recommend Arsenal. The cider is A+ and the service is A++ so it's truly a no brainer.

Yelp
The Arsenal space in Dormont is huge compared to their Lawrenceville operations! Street parking so be sure to bring quarters or use the parking app. There is a large bar, high tops, and a large seating space up stairs to the back of the building. I love sitting at the bar to get recommendations from the bartender. In addition to a variety of ciders, they have beer and other options to please everyone in your group. I gravitate to the seasonal ciders and have never been disappointed. The rhubarb was excellent.

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches and drinks and service. Trivia was fun also and the place is spacious enough. Great all around. Will come back

Yelp
I'm extremely delighted that Arsenal has a location in the South Hills now! This beloved Pittsburgh business has been operating for more than 10 years now (woohoo!). Their "home base" is in Lawrenceville while another shop has been operating at Soergels in Wexford. As you might imagine, it hasn't always been easy for me to get to Arsenal's amazing ciders given the distance to Wexford and the commute to + parking in Lawrenceville. Now, however, those pesky obstacles are gone and I am a happy lady! Arsenal's cider is great, and the business as a whole is pretty fascinating. In addition to being a beloved local business, they've leaned into some connections to our local history (definitely look into the Allegheny Arsenal if you don't know the tale - it will also explain the Civil War theme in Arsenal's art and decor). I of course have preferences about which ciders are the tastiest, but with so many good ones on tap, you'll be better off sampling them and deciding which ones are your favorites. If you've never sampled anything from Arsenal, then you're in for an adventure as they have a little of everything on tap! Sweet ciders, dry ciders, seasonal ciders...their variety is astounding. Most of the ciders are apple based and feature apple as the strongest flavor, although you might also spot grape, raspberry, blueberry, and/or lemon brews on the menu if you time your visit right. (Pro-tip: some of the flavors mix together really well and can make for your own special cider blend!) Come hungry, too, because the food here is great! Arsenal's menu isn't the largest but it packs a flavorful punch. Appetizers include pita and chips and pretzels (both of which I have ordered and which have earned my thumbs up); while I haven't sampled their sandwiches quite yet, I do have a friend who thinks the grilled cheese is one of the best in the city. How's that for a glowing review? Between the phenomenal drinks and the fantastic food, I couldn't ask for anything better from a new Arsenal location. I can't wait to stop by again for another round and hope you all are doing your part to welcome these fabulous neighbors!

Yelp
I was very excited when this location opened up nearby because I've been enjoying Arsenal Cider for years. The restaurant is clean, welcoming, and open; definitely a place you feel comfortable spending time at catching up with friends. Our waitress came over immediately and gave us her recommendations on cider and explained we could try 3 samples as we decided. Their menu options include many ciders that they don't think sell in cans, so I was excited to try them. I tried the orange blossom, rhubarb, and ludacrisp ciders. They were all delicious and very sweet! I chose to get a full glass of the rhubarb cider and a soft pretzel. The pretzel was warm, perfectly seasoned with salt, and came with nacho cheese and mustard. Really enjoyed coming here and looking forward to going back to try more of their seasonal ciders!

Yelp
This is a nice location right off the main road. Parking isn't too bad since there's a parking lot across the road and there is some street parking. The drink selection is long and they have a lot of different types of ciders and meads.

Yelp
Seated in the upper deck, patio of this great addition to Dormont, waited on/served by Chris who is super nice & friendly, watching the West Lib traffic out front and enjoying the breezes from the open front & rear windows... btw- the ciders are DELICIOUS too..!!!

Yelp
I've always wanted to try Arsenal Cider and recently visited the Dormont location for trivia. Their most popular cider is popular for a reason-- I loved it! There's such a variety of local beers, along with meads and wines. Friends and I also ordered food while we were there-- the chips and salsa were great and the roast beef sandwich on special was yummy too. My friends liked their sandwiches and soft pretzels. I tried some of the alcoholic sorbet and it was great, too. I'd definitely come back -- I just wish the food menu had as many options as the drink menu.

Yelp
Fun. Good food, but limited. We had pizza and a salad. Cider tasting different experience. All were great.

Yelp
This was my second visit to this location. Our location in Finleyville sadly closed up for normal hours except during the latter holiday months of the year. What a bummer. Anyhow this place is so much nicer than the other locations. It's saloon like inside, places to sit downstairs and upstairs. Cider is good as always. This is one of the best in the area.

Yelp
Stopped in to pick up a growler to go. The inside was so inviting I will be making a night of it soon. The growler of cider enjoyed at home was better than expected.

Yelp
I love Arsenal Cider so 5 stars for their cider! However we were a bit disappointed by the newer location in Dormont. We went on a Saturday night and were hoping to get our growler filled plus a bite to eat. It turns out you can't open your growler while you were there. Our waitress wasn't aware of the rule so filled the growler and then we had to order glasses to drink as well. Luckily they did not make us pay for the growler and were very apologetic about the mistake. There was a musician playing and the music was so loud you really couldn't hear anything else. We ordered soft pretzels and they were coated in so much butter that we couldn't eat them. Very disappointing but maybe try one of the sandwiches which are also on the menu. Anyway the pumpkin cider is fantastic and worth the trip to take a growler home.

Yelp
Delicious ciders and a HUGE selection of other local beer, wine, mead. Good paninis to eat. Great service. Can't wait to go back.

Jenny S.

Yelp
Stopped at the Dormont location twice this past weekend. Service was outstanding as was the ambience. Bartenders Kris, Jen, and Clarissa were knowledgeable, friendly, and well versed in their craft. I drank the small batch Sping Meade which is absolutely delicious. I highly suggest you get some before it's gone! Thanks Arsenal, I'll be back!
google avatar

Kai E.

Yelp
This is a great place and a nice change of pace from the mostly shot and beer type of places nearby. The ciders are excellent and they have a nice selection of craft beer as well. The food menu is small but has enough variety that you should find something you like. Everything I've tried has been good if not exceptional. The 2nd floors outdoor space is a huge plus in the area too.
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
Great location with great drinks, friendly staff, and delicious food! They even have soft serve infused cider drinks! Their sandwiches are excellent and they have a wide selection of drinks! Love it here!!

Theresa W.

Yelp
5 stars for the arsenal cider. 0 stars for the food. They do not accommodate for people with celiac disease. The grills are cross contaminated and the only thing on the menus that's close to safe is the hummus. Who wants to eat that for dinner? No one. I ordered a pizza (after approving it with the waiter) only to be told I could not eat here. I explained the severity of the disease and they ended up "letting me eat". I will never go to this location again. All the other locations allow outside food.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Arsenal is my favorite cider and I was so glad to see that they are now offering in cans!!! No slashes this time but the cider selection was fabulous as always, something for everyone. I love the dry and my sweeter side friends raved about the mead. This spot is a little out of the way but definitely worth the trip.

Yelp
Fabulous new place in Dormont!!!Arsenal Cider is the best.I especially love the fruit flavored. The staff is so friendly and nice. Love coming here -try out there rooftop -covered and beautiful-even in rain -it's perfect.

Yelp
I'm glad to see this local business growing and expanding into new territory. I used to love (and still do) to see the line out the door in the Lawrenceville location of people waiting to get their growlers filled. On-site kitchen offering a small menu in this location (Dormont) along with a extensive offering of local PA cider, mead, wine and spirits. Service and cider was fantastic, same as the the other locations. Venue has a lot of potential with the first floor area and the rooftop deck. Will definitely be back!

David B.

Yelp
This isn't just the best cidery in Pittsburgh, it is amongst the very best in the US. There are no bad drinks here. Only top notch with a tremendous selection. Don't ignore the melomels and meads either. Service is superb. A very comfortable place to spend the evening ( good musical entertainment on the weekends as well). We keep coming back again. And again and....

Yelp
Great bartenders, great atmosphere, and a Cuban Sandwich that I would be happy to be served in Dade County. Since leaving South Florida, I've been in search of a good Cubano, and haven't found one that met the cut until here.

Billy S.

Yelp
Stopped for a drink. Tried multiple items from the drafts but ended on the ginger cider. Very smooth and an easy drink. Looking forward to trying more in the future.

Patrick R.

Yelp
The blueberry sorbet was fantastic. A really pleasant surprise. Service was great, very friendly.

Millie R.

Yelp
This location has excellent potential and I look forward to watching grow with it being new. It would be lovely if the staff was more attentive and frankly nicer when trying to be served considering there was no one in the establishment during our dining time. The food was good, and I think it will get better in time. I don't know if I will be back anytime soon, but I will enjoy the Lawrenceville location and hopefully The staff here can take a note.
