"A Hidden Gem Museum in Parc Cinquantenaire The Art & history Museum (formerly the Cinquantenaire Museum), located right beside Brussels’ iconic triumphal arch, is one of the best hidden-gem museums of the city. This museum of civilizations is part of the Royal Museums of Art and History. Permanent collections include archaeological artefacts and everyday items from Egypt to South-East Asia, and everywhere in between. Highlights include Egyptian sarcophagi, a mosaic floor from Apamea and one of the famous statues from Easter Island. There is also an impressive collection of Art Deco and Art nouveau items from right here in Belgium."

One of the best kept secrets in Bruxelles. To see the whole museum, you’d need a day! It’s not the most modern museum presentation wise, but its content is well preserved. From the Syrian mosaics, to their Egyptian mummies, their cloister and real Easter Island head, this museum is a joy to visit. Not too crowded and a hop and skip from two metros. I highly recommend it!

One of my favorite museums in Brussels, though to be fair, I'm really interested in Roman history, and they have some really great exhibits including mosaics, statues, a painted wall from Pompeii and even a huge model of ancient Rome. The art deco exhibit is also quite good. The museum is not crowded, has good English descriptions, and the staff are very helpful. I would recommend visiting if you're interested in the types of exhibits they have.

Me and my 10 year old daughter loved it very much! It is very big, you have space to visit to sit and enjoy, and they have so many big objects, statues , vases, from many cultures. I've been 2 times and I would still go and not get bored.

It's rumored to be Hogwarts and it really felt like it when I walked in. It was definitely worth a visit and the plus point was that there weren't too many visitors that day so I felt like I owned the whole museum. It was pretty cool, sometimes it felt a bit eerie to be alone in some areas.

A huge museum with many historical and art exhibits abound. I only wished I had allocated more time…the museum closed before I could explore the Asian section. It’s definitely worth a visit!

One of my favourite museums in Brussels. Very interesting collections from different times and cultures from almost all around the world. You can easily spend there several hours. Always polite and attentive service at the reception.

Lofs of amazing different art. Nice staff. Clean toilets. Not too crowded. Good shop. As a tourist it would have been nice if more of the written information also stood in English. Worth a visit!

Absolutely stunning museum with a fabulous variety of exhibitions from all over the world. The building in itself is fabulous and I got to see so many things from different parts of the world that I had never seen before. The staff were lovely and kind as well. I went on a Friday afternoon and it was so quiet in some parts of the museum I felt like I had it all to myself. (Did get a little spooked by the basement, did not realise there would be a grave site, but even though it did give me goosebumps, it was incredible to see!) Tried not to post too many photos of the actual exhibitions so that the surprise won’t be ruined for people who don’t want to see - mostly just photos of the halls.

I tried to do the collection justice in one day, result was impossible. The prehistoric man and Merovingian sections were new and beautifully labelled and displayed. Note, the placards for much of the museum's collection are not also in English. The summaries of the history of each group of peoples was also in English. The Roman collection was displayed in a very dated manner, many of the objects did not have labels. The Islamic collection was outstanding as was the ancient Middle East, in fact the Middle East collection could very well stand on its own. The Mexico, Central America and South America sections were quite varied. So much really to see, I had to run through the Egyptian section just to get a glimpse. If you're as lucky I myself and have visited many of the countries where these pieces are from, then this museum is for you. From what I noted of the other visitors, they really did not have an interest in the collection. Too bad on them.
