Art Deco Hotel Montana (Luzern, Canton of Luzern) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Art Deco Hotel Montana is precisely what it claims to be; though the building, high on a hillside overlooking the lake and town of Lucerne, actually predates the movement by a decade or so, it’s an Art Deco hotel, through and through." - Tablet Hotels

We absolutely loved our stay here. Everything was impeccably executed—the service, the rooms, the food, the drinks. We loved the funicular that takes you up and down the hill from the lake! I would recommend this place to everybody who goes to Lucerne. The hotel feels special from the moment you walk into it to the moment you leave. The tablet in the rooms were great where I could easily order a robe and slippers and other amenities (for free). It was delivered to my room within 5 minutes of the request! The view of the lake was spectacular. Waking up and ending the day with that view is something lovely. The breakfast was absolutely an elegant experience with so many options to choose from. Top notch experience for us. We hope to come back soon!

Such a great experience across so many aspects: * Views: Fantastic views of Lake Lucerne. * Rooms: The deluxe rooms were spacious, had super comfortable beds (bonus: the ability to order all kinds of unique pillows), and impressed with lovely tile work in the bathrooms with very high end fixtures * Location: Take the private funicular from the elevated hotel down to the lake level, cross the road, and stroll along the lakeside path to old town Luzern Other items worth noting: - I can’t comment on the quality of the service as we had relatively little interaction - the hotel is quite vertical - the parking is across the street (not in the same building as the hotel) - we didn’t try the food at the hotel other than breakfast one morning, which was excellent

Beautiful hotel with great access to street level with a funicular and free access to the Badi across the street. That was an unexpected perk. The rooms were a little warm but otherwise nice especuially wirh the lake view. We would stay here again, especially being out of the hustle and bustle in town.

We decided to come to Luzern as it is very easy to get to with direct trains from Zurich airport, it's quite a large city and is well connected. We then needed to find a hotel and decided on this one as it gets so well rated. Even though we booked several months in advance the only room we could get for a 14 night stay was a penthouse suite with a jacuzzi on the balcony. The room was modern with a fabulous view of the lake and mountains which is the main reason we wanted to stay here as this hotel probably guarantees the best views in town. We had a king-size double bed, a sofa, a desk, a toilet and shower room downstairs and a mezzanine floor with another shower and a roll top type bath. There was a minibar with a plentiful supply of water, soft drinks and snacks which are included in the room rate. There was also a coffee machine and tea bags. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet which is an advantage of staying in this hotel which is a few minutes walk from the old town along the lake. We are glad we didn't stay in the middle of town as I think it would be rather noisy. We made good use of the jacuzzi and the balcony. We decided not to pay for breakfast as we don't eat much so most days we went to one of the numerous Bachmann bakeries in town. We did make use of the Beach Bar for food and drinks and also ate twice in the absolutely super restaurant where the food and views are very special. Don't be put off by the out of town location. There are 3 buses into town which is 3 minutes away and 5 minutes to the station or you can walk in along the lake which takes 10 minutes to the old town. There are many lovely cafes and restaurants within walking distance and it's very easy to access the lake and trains. The staff were amazing and really looked after us. Although the hotel doesn't have a pool I can thoroughly recommend using the Seebad across the road where you can sunbathe, swim in the lake as well as eat and drink. Entrance was included in our room rate as was a travel pass to use on the transport network locally. As you can tell we had a fabulous stay and hope to come back.

We had the best stay! From the service, the food & drinks, but most importantly the VIEW - it was all fantastic! The Beach Club had incredible views of Lake Lucerne with the most delicious cocktails. But what really won us over was the breakfast, it was worth every penny - enjoying the most incredible food with the amazing view is something we will never forget. Highly, highly recommend!

The Hotel Montana Lucerne is beautifully located on an elevated spot overlooking Lake Lucerne and Mount Pilatus.|An Art Deco Hotel by design with some rooms in the old design and others refurbished with a new look very recently. We had a breeze while checking in and our luggage was brought to the room. Wasting no time to explore the rooms, amenities, and as mentioned the amazing views of the scenery. The staff was very polite and attentive at any time towards inquiries of all sorts. The breakfast selection was pretty good and something yummy for everyone, Danishes, fruits, yogurt, bircher muesli, cold cuts, and egg station, you name it. Fabulous. Having said that, we also would like to highlight our Scala Dinner experience with Brigitte as our waiter, who did a wonderful job in explaining all the dishes and wine in such great detail. Also, Boris FO cum Concierge helped us a lot with restaurant recommendations and other insider tips|Hope to be back anytime soon :)

We stayed at the Art Deco Hotel Montana for 2 nights. It was a group of 6 people. The views from our rooms were amazing. The rooms were very nice and clean. The location of the hotel is great. The breakfast with the view was great and the staff that took care of us during our breakfasts was very friendly and attentive. Here is where several members of our group independently noticed the need for improvement: the young people at the reception area do not appear to be well trained in the “hospitality “ part of their jobs. Several of them appeared quite unable to use basic phrases often required in a customer facing positions to make people feel welcome comfortable. They were unsmiling and appeared generally apathetic. There was a bit of an attitude from them overall in the way they seemed impatient in answering any questions. They also did not bother asking at checkout if we enjoyed our stay etc..A 4 star hotel needs to set a higher bar for their employees who are the first and the last ones to interact with the customers. 2 more things: there was live music on the reception floor level one of the nights we were there and we could hear it several floors above. It was hard to sleep. We called the front desk and asked to close the door to the room where the music was going on. They promised to do so but did it only for a couple of minutes, then the noise went on until the performance was over. There is also no real lobby at this hotel. Most of the space is monetized for a bar or a restaurant etc. So if you’re traveling in a group, meeting up in a lobby is not easy. The limited space that is available is often busy with groups of people coming and going in every direction. Mostly though, the attitude of people at the reception was what dampened our impression of this hotel.

What a fantastic hotel! One of the most stunning properties I've ever stayed at. Spent two nights here at the beginning of June, in a single lakeview room. The view of Lucerne and the lake was stunning, far better than I'd even expected. The room was so well equipped, cute little balcony, a very comfortable bed and good shower. I also loved the little treats in the room. The breakfast buffet was INCREDIBLE. Probably the best I've ever seen over all my travels. Coffee was also really good, and I loved the espresso maker in the room, once I figured it out! Everyone I spoke to at the front desk was so lovely and helpful. The art deco details of the hotel really were gorgeous and made this such a memorable stay - also, the funicular to get up to the hotel was so fun and unique. The hotel is a few minutes away from the touristy center of Lucerne and maybe a 20 minute walk from the train station, but honestly, that was kind of a positive - less noise. Also, they provided me with a free bus ticket that covered all the days of my stay - such a nice touch! Saved me having to figure it out myself, and I used it frequently to get down to the main part of town, which took only a few minutes on buses that run frequently. Outstanding hotel, highly recommend. Also ate at La Scala one night, which was a great experience - duck dish was really good.

Yelp
Great hotel with a view overlooking Lake Lucerne. It's located up a steep hill, so be sure you're aware of the funicular/elevator to help you and your luggage up! The room was clean and the balcony was nice to enjoy a glass of wine. Air conditioning was great!! The hotel also offers an amazing restaurant, Scala, and a fun beach club in the summer months.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant in the hotel, with a world class panoramic view of the lake and mountains. Staff was top notch, highly professional. Food was superb, including salmon perfectly cooked with a rich risotto and a beef filet with deeply flavored sauce and crisp baby potatoes. This is truly special occasion quality. For a romantic dinner and unique setting, this is the place!

Yelp
Air conditioning units in the rooms are terrible and don't cool down the rooms at all. Had to call the front desk who sent someone that claimed that the AC was working just fine and it was set to 19 degrees Celsius. However after waking up after the unit ran all night on high it was still hot in the room and definitely not even close to 19 degrees C.

Yelp
Terrace restaurant serves a delicious light lunch while you overlook beautiful Lake Lucerne. Wine tastes great and service is impeccable.

Yelp
We stayed at Art Deco Hotel Montana during our Lucerne extension to our Viking Rhine Cruise. Viking provided transportation from Zurich Airport to the hotel and had two staff members on hand at the hotel at all times to answer questions and provide tour advice for Lucerne. Hotel Montana is a grand hotel, opened in 1910. But it has been modernized over time with all amenities. As the hotel is perched on a steep hill, clearly, guests will want to stay in a room overlooking Lake Lucerne. The view of the lake the city and Mt. Pilatus is spectacular! A full breakfast buffet was included. Coffee, tea, scrambled eggs, European bacon, breads yoghurt, juices and cheese are all provided. There is also an omelette station, though not always staffed. A prix fixe restaurant is available at night but we elected to have dinner in town both nights we were there. As the hotel is on s steep hill, walking up and down could be a challenge for many. But, the hotel provides its own dedicated funicular from the hotel to street (lake) level! Outstanding! The hotel also provides a Lucerne bus pass for guests. This is invaluable! Buses and trollybuses course the city and the pass enables visitors to expediently get where they wish to go.

Yelp
Great experience here! It was our first time traveling to Europe and this was the perfect place to start our trip. It was gorgeous and great location for a person staying in Lucerne. I loved the concierge service there. We bought our Mt Pilatus tickets through him and he explained how to go about it. He also booked us a dinner at a restaurant that served fondue on a late notice. The staff was very friendly and were kind enough to speak English for us. Great location right by the bus stop for a ride back to the train station. Also great location for going swimming at the swimming bar called Seebad.

Yelp
You can't give them a 0 star. When wait staff is rude. The room is one step up from a motel. They are just bad.

Yelp
Great hotel! Very friendly and helpful staff. Super accommodating to travelers who are coming and going and the breakfast was delicious!

Yelp
I love love the piano bar and the service was by far the best I have in a long time. The view was lovely and our portions were huge so we decided to take a break from our entree to stroll around the restaurant. When we returned to our seats, our half eaten food was nicely re-plated for us. I am impressed. They genuinely wanted to make our dinning experience as memorable as possible. A: lamb - nicely cooked and tender, it was not what I was hoping for but the thin slices of juicy meat satisfied. I have to note that we were extremely full after 1/3 through our dinner so we decided to take a stroll around the complex and had ask our waiter to just hold on to our food. When we returned, our dishes were re-plated nicely from the kitchen. I was very impressed! Yes, do take your lover here!

Yelp
This is a review of their terrace and restauarant where the views are amazing. To get there go with their free tram that goes up the hill and get off at floor 6. Their banana spilt is awesome.

Yelp
This little place was a memorable, wonderful surprise. My husband found this place while we were dating, and it was overall so charming, in this amazingly charming town, we will definitely be back. Its brunches/breakfasts are something you, whoever you are, should experience. It's am amazingly delicious and impressive collection of foods and little champagne drinks, really wonderful. The large dining area overlooks Lake Lucerne, so it is picturesque beyond belief. I can't wait to go back (planning it now). We were also there for New Year's Eve, and there was a super charming New Year's fete of some sort going on there with [I think it was] hotel workers dressed up as gondoliers in Venice. The whole crowd gathered on the outdoor patio outside the dining room for fireworks over the Lake... it is and was such a thing to do if you are in the area and would like a really nice New Year's experience. The room was lovely. Really nice bedding and a relatively large and roomy bathroom. The room itself, while not large per se, had plenty of room and extra seating; it was very comfortable. Views from the windows were a really pretty view of nearby rooftops. I love this place. I can't wait to be there again. Especially for breakfast. :)

Yelp
Fantastic food and breathtaking view! We enjoyed delectable deserts here and a priceless view! The service is perfection the food is fantastic but you pay for it all. They have a place you can order drinks and just sit and enjoy the view - outside lounge area! Best city in Europe and the views and the little city are wonderful!

Yelp
We stayed for 3 nights here. Our room was a corner suite. The view was to die for and the room itself was outstanding! The front desk girls were very nice and helpful. It isn't cheap, but worth it if you want to treat yourself.

Yelp
We stayed for two nights at the Art Deco Hotel Montana and we would gladly stay again. Here's why: Great location; splendid views; and impeccable service. The hotel is located on the hillside overlooking the Vierwaldstättersee. We paid extra for a lakeside room and we were rewarded with splendid views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The hotel is reached by a private funicular railway which runs up from the Haldenstrasse. For those like us who use public transportation, there is a bus stop conveniently located at the foot of the funicular. Our lakeside room on the fourth floor was spacious. As mentioned before, the view from our window and balcony was breath-taking. We dined in the hotel's Scala Restaurant and we were very pleased. The service was impeccable. I'm thinking, for example, of the professional presentation of cheeses at the end of the meal. The breakfast buffet was exactly what one would expect of a hotel in this class. We took advantage of the hotel's "Two Night Stand" offer which included Tell Passes giving us unlimited access to buses, trains, boats, and cable cars in Central Switzerland. We took a cruise on the Vierwaldstättersee and we rode the aerial tramway up to the Pilatus (2,132 meters) for more splendid views. It added up to a lovely romantic weekend which we look forward to repeating.

Yelp
Lovely view. Great breakfast. Kind and thoughtful staff. Example: we were given free bus passes upon check-in, and upon checkout at 3:30am to catch transportation to airport, they had coffee ready for us in the lobby and snack bags for us to take with us. How is that for five star service? I will always remember that.

Yelp
Good modern hotel centrally located in Lucerne, rooms with an amazing view of the lake. Good rates as well
