A Magical Stay at Hotel Commercianti – Like Sleeping in a Castle! I can’t say enough good things about Hotel Commercianti in Bologna. This historical gem is absolutely stunning—stepping inside feels like entering a beautifully preserved castle. Every detail exudes charm and elegance, from the architecture to the decor. The themed rooms are each uniquely designed, giving every guest a truly special experience. Ours was full of character, with historic touches that made us feel like royalty. The breakfast buffet was outstanding—fresh, plentiful, and beautifully presented. It was the perfect way to start each day in such a magical city. The entire atmosphere of the hotel is enchanting, combining old-world beauty with warm hospitality. If you’re visiting Bologna and want to stay somewhere that feels both luxurious and full of history, Hotel Commercianti is a must. A truly unforgettable experience! — @mathi.nicole

We arrived on a national holiday, greeted by lively crowds filling the square—but to our surprise our taxi confidently wove through the sea of people, who parted just in time, and delivered us straight to the hotel. Though located steps from the heart of the action, the hotel is tucked into a peaceful corner, offering the best of both worlds: close to everything, yet blissfully quiet.||From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm and welcoming, and our suite—The Neptune—was absolutely charming. I loved that each room in the hotel has its own theme and story. Reading about the Neptune statue in the square added a whole new layer to our visit. We even followed the suite’s suggestion to view the statue from a specific angle, and let’s just say... it was a discovery that gave us a good laugh! We never would’ve known if it hadn’t been in our room's thoughtful narrative.||The suite itself was spacious and well-designed, with a large bathroom, walk-in closet for luggage, a separate seating area, and a writing desk. The breakfast spread in the morning was generous and delicious. Though we only stayed one night, we truly enjoyed every moment—especially the cozy slippers in the room, which were such a thoughtful touch!||Because of the holiday, local restaurants were packed, but the hotel staff went above and beyond, securing a dinner reservation for us. Their attentiveness made all the difference.||Bravo to the entire team—we hope to return for a longer stay!

The hotel is fantastic and right in the city center. The staff are very kind and helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean, however, we could hear noise from outside, which I think is the only thing that needs improvement. The breakfast is varied and delicious. Without a doubt, a hotel to return to.

We had booked this hotel as it had many great reviews and was an historical building with many artifacts, paintings, etc. We had been looking forward to our stay for a few months. The room was nice with two small windows facing the side of the Basilica. The bathroom was adequate with a nice shower. My only complaint is the front desk staff was unfriendly and never smiled. We traveled with another couple and they felt the same. This could make or break a stay. The staff in the breakfast room were very nice and courteous. I don't expect to visit Bologna again but, if we do, we will consider elsewhere.

This hotel is superbly located in the centre of the Bologna Old Town. Walking distance to everywhere. Comfortable and functional room for us that had everything we needed. Staff were welcoming, pleasant and helpful. In an old palace. Full of history with interesting artifacts. The freshest charcuterie for breakfast we have ever had.

The hotel is well appointed and lovely. Each room is filled with small details that make you feel welcome: robes and slippers, candy on the pillow, …The location is perfect: tucked away from the tourists, but also only steps away from all the things. |And…THE BREAKFAST. Oh my goodness. Pastries, meat and cheese, eggs, cereal, breads, fruit, yogurt, a coffee bar, a tea station with bogs AND loose tea and so much more. It deserves its own review!

The rooms and location of this hotel were excellent. Each room is very different, and ours had a skyline of Bologna with stairs to a bathroom. Could not fault the quirkiness, history, and provenance of Art Hotel Commercianti. The breakfast staff were very friendly and warm, and the selection was extremely varied. What let this hotel down disappointingly was the hotel reception staff. They were not at all smiley, didn't welcome us, and we had to instigate the "good mornings" each day of our 5-day stay. We almost saw it as a challenge in the end to see if there was any acknowledgement without being prompted. There wasn't. In the hotel services info, it said the hotel had a computer and printer. My husband asked if he could print some train tickets. The staff member said we could use the laptop in the lounge. It was occupied, so my husband asked if the receptionist could print them out. He asked my husband to email them, which he did. The receptionist then went to get a cup of coffee, spoke to two other staff members, and looked really inconvenienced. My husband prompted him again, and he said we didn't need to print the tickets out as they would have been on my phone. It's not really his place to say. If the reception staff had made an effort to be more welcoming, we would have awarded 5 stars.

We travelled to Bologna as a family of four because we LOVE good food. We stayed for three nights at Art Hotel Commercianti in their apartment that is a couple blocks away from the main hotel. We had SO much room and the a/c was exceptional. We also had a small refrigerator and a kitchenette. The entire place was extremely clean and well furnished and gorgeous. The location was very good as it was right near Piazza Maggiore. We visited the clock tower as well as the excavation stie at the bioblioteca, saw the due torrei but did not go up them and went on a hunt for painted porticoes.||We ate at Da Cesarina (best cotoletta) and Noi (at Mercado dell Erbe). Both were fanstastic. We had linguine alla vongole and lots of bolognese. All in all, Bologna did not dissapoint.

Yelp
Embarking on our trip to Bologna, we had a clear vision in mind: a remarkable stay within the city walls, steeped in history, and offering great value without compromising on quality. We sought an experience that would immerse us in the essence of the destination while providing easy access to the local attractions and food that make Bologna so captivating. Our choice of accommodation was a delightful junior suite, nestled in room 119, complete with its own charming balcony. As we had seen in the YouTube videos, each room was unique in its design and character, adding an element of surprise and intrigue. The bathroom was perfectly sized, providing a comfortable and convenient space for our needs. While I personally found the bed slightly firmer than my preference, it still offered a good night's sleep. My wife, although noting that it might be a tad too firm for her liking, considered it a minor quibble in the grand scheme of things. The balcony was a true highlight, adorned with a reclining chair, a pair of cozy chairs, and a lovely table. We were delighted to discover a retractable awning, which, although we figured out how to use it on our last day, served as a wonderful shield against both rain and the playful local birdlife. The thoughtful addition of the awning enhanced our enjoyment of the balcony, providing a comfortable space to relax and soak in the surroundings.Other features, Plenty storage, TV, with various channels, to include some English, and very high ceilings. From the moment we stepped into the hotel, we were instantly captivated by its stunning location nestled within a picturesque setting. It surpassed all our expectations, even those set by the enticing YouTube videos we had watched beforehand. The friendly staff members and available pamphlets, greeted us in the lobby and eagerly provided a wealth of information on nearby destinations and must-visit tourist sites. As we ventured through the hotel, we found ourselves immersed in a treasure trove of art, discovering intricate pieces adorning every corner and floor of the hotel. We marveled at the meticulously preserved portions of the property, especially the wooden beams, protected throughout. Each floor and room with its own historical significance, and took our time absorbing the stories they whispered by hopeful name, plates, and historical plaques, describing each item, an article. Our exploration of the hotel was nothing short of enchanting, leaving us with a profound appreciation for the thought and care that went into its design and preservation. The hotels efforts and preserving it's history is remarkable. The hotel's breakfast buffet was truly exceptional! The diverse array of fresh meats, teas, cheeses, and other Italian culinary delights must have made it a memorable dining experience. It's fantastic that the hotel's thoughtful design and attention to detail is impressive. Our enthusiasm and anticipation for our next visit is a testament to the hotel's quality and service. I look forward to a future stay.
