Why 5 stars? Because we'll never forget it.

This is the best view I've ever had at a hotel in my life. Granted, just about every hotel in Positano has a view that will leave you in awe, but we were very happy with this one.
Everyone here was so friendly - from the front desk, to housekeeping, to those working in the breakfast area. Speaking of breakfast, quite a spread was included in the price of the room. This was really helpful because we spent two weeks in Europe and the food costs were a bit out of control. Anytime we could save a few bucks, it was great.
Granted, Positano is a small town, but we particularly liked the location of this hotel. It was very central to most of the action, and near the halfway point of the mountain. I mention the mountain because if you've never been to Positano before, you are in for an interesting experience! The steepness of the city creates the aforementioned beautiful views, but it also punishes you when you're trying to walk up from the beach. Be prepared to either walk the long way along the road, or up the intense steps back to the hotel, if you're going to visit the beach. The good news is that this hotel is around that median point of the mountain - so whether you're looking to head up to some restaurants or shops, or down to the beach, you'll won't have *as far* to go as you might with other hotels.
There were only two things I didn't love about our experience, but with the caveat that these things would have been true no matter where we stayed in Positano, at least according to my research.
1) We visited the last couple of days of April. It was warm out, but apparently they don't turn on the AC until May. This caused us to have to keep the window open, and it was a bit loud with sirens and various other road noise throughout the night. We didn't wake up much once we were asleep, but while trying to fall asleep, it was a bit noisy. I wish the AC policy would be more about the temperature than the month - it was definitely warm enough during the day to justify it!
2) Our bed was pretty hard. Not much different than most of the beds we experienced in Europe though - especially Italy.
So if you're a super light sleeper or like the room nice and cold when you sleep, try to plan your trip when the AC is turned on - you may even want to call the hotel to confirm when that will be. And be prepared for a bed that's not terrible, but probably not as comfortable as your own.
But even with those two issues, we absolutely loved our stay here and would return in a heartbeat. Positano is one of the most beautiful and unforgettable places I've ever visited.
