The Most Colorful Hotels in the World, From Morocco to Guatemala

"Berlin’s art scene is ever-evolving—made even more evident when staying at the Arte Luise Art Hotel. Guests are met with swarms of color, from the lobby entrance’s sculptures and art installations to the suites, which are individually designed by over 50 artists. Each room is a canvas itself, arousing the curiosity of creative-minded travelers. One room, “The Woman in Red,” was designed by local artist, Elvira Bach, and is decked out in black and white stripes to accentuate the large painting of three life-sized female figures. Another, “Heartbeat,” was created by famous Berlin Wall graffiti artist Kiddy Citny. It has red finishing touches and a large painting of two figures in the shape of conjoined yellow hearts. Redesigned by artists every two to five years, the property keeps up with the forward-looking art world in Berlin." - Jessica Chapel

Arte Luise Kunsthotel, Berlin, Germany - Explore & Book

"Berlin has long been at the cutting edge of wacky art, but this place takes the biscuit. You can drink spritzers under a giant horse's head, or chill beside a psychedelic rainbow of wall. Clamber into an oversized bed designed to make you feel like Alice in Wonderland after "drinking me" (room 107); or sleep in a pseudo aircraft cabin in room 309, whose tilting mattress makes you think you're coming in to land. Artists of every ilk have left their mark - provocative female nudes, neon glows, comic graffiti, even shoes - on the walls, and a portion of your stay goes to their royalties. There are playful references to artists and writers: we liked 'Tribute to Edward Hopper' (room 208) and Camus-inspired 'Light and shadow' (510). But all have German bathroom technology and triple-glazed windows (several look onto a railway).Built around a typical Berlin interior courtyard, the 4-storey neoclassical palais housed the legendary actors' club Die Möwe in GDR days, then a bohemian Künstlerheim (artists' retreat) post-Wall, before being gutted and rebuilt in the 1990s. Nowadays expect friendly young staff, stairwells inscribed with philosophical quotations, and cost-price drinks from the vending machine. A vaulted restaurant next door serves breakfast (and other meals). Turn right - across the Spree - and you're at the Reichstag in 5 minutes, or the Brandenburg Gate in 10. Highs A prime location: you can walk to all the main sites, you're near the river Spree to catch a boat to Museum Island if you preferWe loved the rooms, which are quirky and humorous without being uncomfortable (all have excellent mattresses)There are rates to suit all pockets, from shared-bathroom singles to 2-room suitesYou can reach the hotel in 30 minutes by train from Brandenburg airport, so if you're coming for a weekend you can minimise travel time Lows The arty rooms vary hugely, and are very much a matter of tasteThe rear wing rooms look directly - and I mean directly - onto the Friedrichstrasse station railway line; the windows do their Teutonic best, but some rumbling is inevitableNo food is served on-site, but there's a restaurant next door and more close byNot all rooms have an ensuite bathroom, some share a shower room down the hall" - Michael Cullen

Arte Luise Kunsthotel (Berlin, Germany) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"People from all over the world come to Berlin to see cutting-edge art in the city’s galleries, museums, and — if the Arte Luise Kunsthotel has anything to say about it — its hotels. It’s billed as “a gallery where you can spend the night,” and each of its 50 rooms (some of which share centrally located baths) has been painstakingly created by an artist. Most are recommissioned every two to five years to keep the art current — as of this writing, guests can pick from unique designs like a three-dimensional reproduction of Carl Spitzweg’s The Poor Poet, and a tribute to Edward Hopper. In the lobby, you’ll find sculptures and installations, as well as a bookstore specializing in Berlin’s art and architecture." - Tablet Hotels

I read a lot of comments before booking a room at this Arthotel. I was also worried about the noise, and indeed it was noisy. There is no way that you will get a quiet room, because its right next to the railway( no, it does not matter if your room is the right or left side of the building, you will hear the noise, its too close to the trains). Even with closed windows, you can hear the noise and in some cases even feel the vibration. At night there are fewer trains, so if you plan to have a normal sleeping schedule ( 11 PM - 6 AM) there will be fewer trains ( only 10-15 per hour). They give you earplugs, and they work fine. If you are not very very sensitive for any noise while sleeping, give this place a chance. I slept like a baby, and I am not the “best” sleeper. :) Beside this, everything is as described, good location, the shared bathroom was always clean and empty, you don’t have to worry about it. Location is excellent, it right next to the Bundestag, but you will have to walk 12-10 minutes for a public transport station. There is an elevator!

The room was quite sparse with few home comforts but clean, warm and tidy. As it was mainly just somewhere to sleep and charge my phone it was more than enough. The stairs were a bit of a killer after a long day on your feet though. Location was really convinient for some of the bigger tourist locations

I stayed in a single room. It was a great room. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully designed. It was great to have my own bathroom. The hotel itself was also very well designed. If you are interested in interior design like me, this hotel offers a great experience. It was also very close to the city's important points. Yes, a train passes by, but that didn't bother me at all. Earplugs were provided for those who might be bothered. In short, it was great. I would stay again. Best wishes from a Turk living in Italy.

Our room was clean and had plenty of space and outlets. It was a short walk to the train and many of the famous landmarks. I would stay there again. The train runs close so they provide earplugs. I only needed them the first night and then was used to it. The croissant and coffee for 5 euros was a deal—but we didn’t understand you had to order it day before.

I had a great experience staying at this hotel! It’s located right next to the railway station, which makes it incredibly convenient for travel and exploring the city. If you're sensitive to noise, the trains might be an issue — but personally, I had no problem with it. What really makes this place special is its unique character. The central chill zone is absolutely beautiful, filled with greenery and cozy seating — the perfect place to relax after a day out. The whole hotel has an artistic, creative vibe — a bit chaotic in the best way, but warm and welcoming. It’s not your typical hotel — it’s more of an art hotel with personality. For me, it was insanely good and I’d definitely stay again.

I stayed at the hotel for two nights and was placed on the top floor facing both the railway and south facing towards the street. The heat and noise were brutal. The trains are VERY loud - even with the windows closed and earplugs (provided) used. If you close the windows (you have to for the noise), the room was over 30C by early am (on a day when it was maybe 22C outside). While the general location is good, the rooms are cute and clean, and the staff were polite (but couldn't move me), at over 200 euros per night, and no in suite washroom, this is not somewhere I'd recommend unless you enjoy a sleepless sauna.

I literally can't wait to stay there again one day, hopefully soon. :-) The staff were amazing, very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. There are lockers right by the front desk so if you're early (like I was) you can check in your luggage and roam around the city as you wait. It's near the train tracks, but honestly those kind of city noises put me to sleep, so I had no issues, but they do give you ear plugs in case it might be an issue for you, and they are very upfront about their location in their communications, so that was much appreciated.

We had a wonderful week-long stay at Arte Luise Arthotel at the recommendation of friends who have stayed here numerous times. The location is great—walking distance from many sites, near buses and trains and lively restaurants along the river. Our room was charming! The beds so comfortable. A great bathtub and shower. And a very kind and patient front desk staff who answered all our questions—and came to our rescue when we left something vital in our room after checking out at 6 am before the front desk opened. I can’t wait to stay again.
