"At this colorful corner store in North Park, Mexican handicrafts reign supreme. Pick up such gifts as hand-embroidered pillows and table runners, hand-painted wooden stools, glassware, and rainbow huaraches. This wholly original store is the brainchild of Elexia de la Parra, who grew up in Tijuana, studied culinary arts in San Diego, and then globetrotted a bit before turning her passions into a business. Her goal was to create a shop that both celebrated Mexico’s vibrant artisanal culture and supported its makers—a percentage of each sale is donated to an organization that provides no-interest loans to female entrepreneurs in Oaxaca. When de la Parra’s not at the shop, she’s leading trips to Oaxaca and San Miguel de Allende for lovers of market tours, cooking classes, and artisans’ studios. Dubbed Eat Drink Cook Mexico, the forays double as treasure hunts for her shop. Pro tip: Before you visit, check Artelexia’s events calendar for evening crafting workshops."

I found the best gifts in this awesome little shop. North Park had lots of great little shops but this was one of my top faves! Super colorful and authentic selection of candles, toys, trinkets, accessories, and more. I even ran into Pedro! 🤣💗 Thanks, Artelexia! These candles were the best gifts ever and we all loved our Bonita pocket mirrors! They had so many awesome air fresheners, it was hard to choose but my friends loved the Frida and Selena ones I picked. Awesome must stop in North Park, San Diego! They wrapped it up so cute, too. It’s the little details that I appreciated the most!

I've been a customer since 2020. I have shared my purchases w/ friends and family over the years. Recently took friends this past weekend. The store is set up beautifully, tons to admire and purchase. We all left with things we loved. Unfortunately, the customer service has been underwhelming EACH time. We went to Cocas y Cocina (next door sister store) 1st. Employee seemed bothered I grabbed an apron off the rack, which was only for display purposes. How a customer would know that, not sure. The way the employee worded it was a little rude. Not sure I was even greeted. We all went next door to ARTLEXIA, they sell some of the same merch. Friends had questions about merch and it came off as bothersome to be inquiring about an item. For stores as beautiful as these, I would expect the culture and vibe to be uplifting and positive. Not the case what so ever. There were a few examples I can list. Asking if a frame came in other shades, employee said they were all different and brought one out instead of bringing out a few to pick from. We then asked about the same apron that was also hanging and we asked if we wanted one did we ask for one, and employee looked at us as if we were crazy, again CYC hanging aprons were only for display. I checked out first. One of my friends checked out after and received a free tote for her purchase. Never did anyone share there was a free bag promotion. Asked if I could combine my purchases from Cosas y Cocina and/or purchase more to get the bag and it was a no. Asked both my friends what they thought, and their consensus was mutual, lovely shops but lousy customer service. No nice greeting/welcome, no thank you for shopping w/us, or see you next time, just dry. Malas VIBRAS.

Cute shop with gifts, books, clothes, and household goods. The store is colorful and fun. I purchased a Horchata scented candle and a “La Jefa” water bottle sticker for my daughter. They have a beautiful mural out front that is great for pictures.

Artelexia is a vibrant, one-of-a-kind shop that perfectly captures the heart and soul of Mexican culture. From the moment you walk in, you're surrounded by a colorful explosion of handcrafted goods, unique gifts, and artisanal finds that celebrate Mexico’s rich traditions. Their selection is incredible—beautiful home décor, papel picado, traditional textiles, and a fantastic collection of books and cards that highlight Mexican art, history, and food. It’s the perfect place to find a meaningful gift or just treat yourself to something special. One of my favorite things about Artelexia is the stunning Frida Kahlo mural on the side—it’s a must-see! If you’re in North Park, the shop is just off the main drag on Ray Street. It’s a small little space, but packed with so much charm and personality. Beyond the retail experience, Artelexia fosters a real sense of community. They host amazing workshops, cultural events, and even food tours that make you feel even more connected to the culture. The staff is always welcoming and passionate, making every visit enjoyable. If you love supporting local businesses and appreciate authentic, handmade goods with a story behind them, Artelexia is definitely a must-check-out spot in North Park!

I like to come here to find cute things. I also decided to buy some gifts for my niece and nephew. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone. It has gifts for anyone. They sell paletas, cards, gifts, and etc.

Google
I loved this shop so much including the other 2 that are close to one another I traveled 2 hrs to come visit it. The shop is super organized and cute, full of so many goodies. It seemed to be that the owner was present and gave a warm welcome to her store and I love it. Only thing I did not like was the Women at the register she wasn’t friendly and had an attitude. I was trying to ask other questions about the stickers up front but me and my husband honestly wanted to just walk out. I understand we all have those type of days but if a customer is being friendly and kind there’s no need for that type of energy. Other then that lovely stores the owner has ❤️

This is a nice and colorful vibrant gift store. You can find a lot of beautiful handmade Mexican souvenirs.

I loved all the things this store had but most of the prices are hefty. I bought some candy, cookies, marmalade, and a cute little dish that was on clearance.

Yelp
I ordered some things online and received the package right away. I was thrilled with my items, and whoever packed the box wrapped everything beautifully and with care, it was so much fun to open everything! Will definitely be making a pilgrimage to Artelexia when I visit San Diego in the fall.

Yelp
I went to this store a few times. It's because of the employee's attitude. What happened was that I saw the book I like and took it. I put it down on the stack of the books and then looked for other books. It was accidentally taken by the female employee, and then I stopped her by making a gesture "it's mine. Buy." She understood and let me keep it. Another female employee took it from me. I was confused, giving them a non verbal cue like "it's mine." They said something. I didn't understand what she said and then I told her I am deaf and to write what she said. She looked subtly irritated, sighing. In the back of my mind, I was like what's that look? It's not cool. I gave her my phone to type and understood her message. I totally understood that the book was already purchased online. What I didn't like was her attitude when I informed her I am deaf and I want her to write what she say. Now I don't feel comfortable going back to the store for a while.

Yelp
Service: There were 4 employees working at the time of my visit. The shop looks like 2 separate spaces that were connected at some point...so there is a lot of square footage and merchandise to cover. They were helpful and friendly. Selection: The selection is fantastic! A theme-based shop however, many, many selections of paper, pens, keychains, trinkets, art, etc. A great place to window shop or pick up great collectibles or gifts. Value: All items seemed reasonably priced.

Yelp
Walking by and hearing the joy inside this store and then coming in was such a treat that I'm tempted to sink my teeth into again! This place is on the corner behind target and across the street from Pints and Pretzels. The first thing that gets you is the sound of lively chatter followed by a colorful room followed by wonderful people and smiles. The store is full of items that are Mexican themed. Therefore the items, the people, and the atmosphere are all warm and fun. Aside from food, this place has everything from baby clothes, to dog toys, to small little recuerdos you can gift, to cookbooks, to car fresheners and more. Also, when we came here around 11am on a Saturday, they were serving apple mimosas and mini chocolate chip cookies. Really was a dope experience. The value on most things were in line with what you would spend at other places like Target. But at least you're supporting small businesses.

Yelp
This was such a cute store. They had so many unique items. It was such a joy to shop at. Unlike another I had went into this place was welcoming, the workers were friendly, helpful and happy to assist. I definitely recommend if you're in the area to check them out. I will absolutely be back.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite stores to go to. I have boughten earrings, stickers, and gifts for people. This place is great and there is always something for someone. The people are kind and helpful. They tend to have a sale section too.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! I have never been to this store in person but I ordered online for a family member and everything was so cute. Everything was packaged so nicely and neat. My cousin will be so happy. Thank you so much! I can't wait to visit this store if I am in San Diego! Everything is great quality and so beautiful. I can't thank you enough! So happy to support this wonderful Latina owned small business!

Yelp
Soy chismosa so naturally, I loved all the chisme related stickers, pins and decals. I originally came in because I had seen a photo of a cafecito con chisme sticker on a bustelo can that I had to buy for a friend, but was distracted by how many fun things that existed in this store. This store is perfect if you're searching for a gift for a friend. They have a bunch of cards and creative items. There is also a kids section in the back. So many fun things to choose from!
google avatar

Maya K.

Yelp
A vibrant and beautiful boutique featuring a curated selection of gifts sourced from Mexico. From house decor, stationary, jewelry, and clothing, to an assortment of trinkets, it's a one stop shop for gifts for friends/family, or yourself! I appreciate Artelexia because they source their items from Latinx-owned businesses, artisans, and entrepreneurs, specifically supporting women and small businesses. The staff is kind and warm here, and I always enjoy buying more Selena air fresheners and stickers! Don't forget to try a Popsicle on your way out, they are refreshing, flavorful, and have a section of flavors such as Mango Chamoy and horchata!

Yelp
Great store! Lots of cute items! They have everything from concha pillows to notebooks to books! Great place to buy stocking items for your friends and family or to decorate your home / apartment! Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Fun store to visit with several unique gifts and ideas for natives and visitors alike. Plus a wide range of items for all ages and pronouns!

Yelp
My sister ships me several packages a year from Artelexia. Each item is individually wrapped with care. Great quality too! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Came for some thank you cards, found a great cookbook section and got some craft supplies for the little one. Lots of interesting gifts and knick knacks here! Worth perusing.

Yelp
Mujeres! This is a local art and culture filled gem of a shop! We were enjoying brunch in Northpark and stumbled upon this vibrant tienda. Lots of inspirational pieces and original hand made crafts. We did not leave empty handed. Women supporting women businesses. I loved it!

Yelp
This place gives a little reminder of Old Town in its own unique twist! I loved it here they have so many goodies for all ages! I bought earrings from here and been getting lots of compliments!

Yelp
Such a cute shop and I really love visiting here. When I visited San Diego I saw this place via Instagram places in San Diego. So I wanted to check it out. There are so many cute stuffs and I wish I can buy so many. I bought a small avocado honey and some Mexican snacks. I took some pics there since their merchandise are so unique and cute. The staff was friendly and they paid attention to my dogs and my dogs loved the attention. Although I bought small things they gave me such a cute bag with cute papers. Thank you!!!

Yelp
My cousins and I parked in the residential area and were walking around the corner to Verbatim when the big mural on the side of the building caught our attention. This place is amazing! They had so much from fabric to housewares and the prices were relatively affordable. Not crazy huge tourist trap mark-ups. They sell mexican folk art/cultural fabric! I snagged a Grandeza Azteca themed yard cut of fabric for $13.00 in their precut fabric basket. I also got some wedding cookies and a Darth Vato patch. I rang up and was just blown away at the extra care they gave when bagging up my items. they put it in a gift bag, with tissue paper and tied it closed with like colored husk type string... I dont know what it's called. anyhow, it looked like a present when she handed it over to me. Definitely a place to stop if you are in the area. :)

Yelp
This shop has some beautiful items. If you need a gift, go check it out. Prices are reasonable and service is nice.

Yelp
Came across this cool little store in the University district of San Diego. I had never been down here before but such an artsy area. This shop celebrates Mexican culture. Being Mexican, this makes me so happy to see such a beautiful store thriving. When you enter, so much color from art to blankets to pillows, and life size paper flowers. They also feature custom jewelry and offer weekly craft classes. There are all kinds of gifts to choose from and if you are a Frida Kahlo fan, lots of merchandise to choose from. I especially enjoyed the murals painted inside and outside. Service was friendly and I will definitely return here in the future.

Yelp
I admit that I wanted to see every part of the store when I first arrived! I was in LOVE with the cute Mexican concha keychains and pillows and balloons. They have these gorgeous cups, dog toys, treats and ponchos, and handmade horchata candles. I was dying! I got some cards, a pillow, and lotería for my boo thang. Highly recommend

Yelp
A must stop and stroll spot in North Park, San Diego. It's like Selena meets Oaxaca meets Nacho Libre meets your Abuelita's kitchen. Books, snacks, glassware, stickers, clothes, drink ware and more. The owner curates the store with items form her many trips to Mexico, especially Oaxaca. She even hosts vacation experiences down there too. Don't just snap your IG pic outside and bounce- make sure to go inside and explore. You don't have to be Mexican to enjoy and appreciate the cultura.

Yelp
Visited this shop a hand full of times and the vibe is always right. The staff is always nice. This last time I went I could not keep my eyes off everything because it's so full of tons of nik naks. I'm sad I didn't get one of their candles but I will be back! I got my sister the Zote and mom the avocado little coin bags which are the most adorable gifts.

Yelp
A super cute shop that will guarantee you walk out with a purchase. So much to look at

Yelp
If I could give ZERO stars I would. I have visited this location a few times and every time I go I try to convince myself the experience will be different. No one will help you at this store in fact they won't even walk out of the cashwrap area to help you. The attitude you get when you ask a question is just so unwelcoming and almost like you are bothering them. Around the corner they have another store and again those employees won't leave the cashwrap area either. I don't suspect that the owner is participating in the training of her employees. Being more present in a little shop like this is important to your year after year growth especially if you leave your team untrained. I give up on trying to love this store. I will spend my money where I am appreciated as a customer and wanted as a customer. If you are ready to shop by yourself with no help and ready to be completely ignored then this is the shop for you!!!!
google avatar

Alejandra A.

Yelp
The service was horrible. Both employees had an attitude, the minute you walk in. They dont acknowledge you. I knew what I was buying because I check the website before. When I talk to them en español because we are all "Mexicans" in there they responded in English. They have false advertisement in their website; the prices didn't match. I ask them to check and they said "oh yes well the website is wrong". Kind of standoffish and making faces at each other. I just walked out. As someone that is extremely proud of my heritage and my hometown of Oaxaca. I feel disappointed and a shame of these people. I can only imagine how they treat other customers they don't represent Mexican culture at all. we are warm welcoming people with manners. I wasn't going to post anything originally but after seeing a lot of other people's reviews I just felt more disappointed. Who ever owns this business is representing Mexican culture poorly by having these people run this beautiful store.
google avatar

Luz O.

Yelp
THIS STORE IS EVERYTHING!!!! I love it! There is always something new you can find. Authentic Mexican artesanías, clothing, gifts, cards, home decore, balloons, books, jams, candy... so much you can find!! I always find something for someone here! If you come, you will not be disappointed. They also do group tours and visits in Mexico you can book. So nice to know a store that can bring a little of Mexico to you.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
A colorful experience that blasts your senses with all sorts aspects of Mexican culture. From the moment you walk in you are met with a lot of options to revel in. Do you want a wide variety of cook books to browse, hot sauces or marinades to browse over, art books, stickers or even fruit ice cream bars. I didn't know what to make of this place my first time walking in the but when I found a hot sauce that really caught my eye. That oaxacan hot sauce is good and worth the 10. It feels overpriced and looks overpriced but I can't find it online except from the swedish manufacturer. I know that sounds weird but it's a smokey flavor that I can't find from similar hot sauces. I wouldn't say it's hot but then again I do love hot sauces and I actively looked. They do these Mexican chocolates and I would highly recommend getting the big multi pack and not small multi pack. It's cheaper and you get 2. There's a lot to enjoy with this store and I highly recommend checking them out if you are in the area. It's a high concentration of things you wouldn't typically find at any other store. If you are a bargain hunter, you might be leery of this place but proper context is needed. Local business doing something that is unique to the area. Also it's great vibe and the staff is nice. So I will be back and I suggest you give them a shot. You'll find things that you'll enjoy if you do. The only person who I can't see liking this place is the person who wouldn't need this place because they have easy access to all of that.

Yelp
What a gem! I could have spent hours here. Such cute and unique items. I have no doubt that I could have found a gift for everyone that I know. They have cooking books, books for children( some in English and Spanish), onesies, some clothing for children, shirts for adults, socks, pencils, stickers, floor mats, bags and much much more. The one thing I do wish is that they had more Mexican style clothing in larger sizes for kids. Aside from that, great customer services. The two young women that were working at the time of my visit allowed me to walk around without feeling as if they were breathing down my neck. Some items are pricey but there is still plenty of items you can find that are reasonably priced. The store is worth checking out. The pictures do not do it justice. Thank you!
google avatar

Marisol A.

Yelp
My sister gifted a gift card to me fort his cute little shop, loved all the children's books they carry, had cute cards, mugs, pins, kitchen items, furnishings, and other decor but some of it was a bit pricey. I plan on going back for a second tour!

Yelp
Great last minute gift topper. Curbside pickup option plus plus. Thank you This shop has everything I would want to gift and receive!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute store but the employees lack customer service. I am glad I already knew what I wanted to buy so I was in and out. Like I walk up to check out and one of them does not even acknowledge me. I had to ask a question to finally check out.
google avatar

Arika G.

Yelp
I was FINALLY able to visit this store after finding them on IG some years back. I wanted to buy everything in here. It's such a vibe! It's a great place to shop for décor, gifts and trinkets. It's nicely decorated and has beautiful artwork inside and outside the building. I would recommend this as a must stop shop when in the SD area. They are also online which is great! Their packaging is so cute and thoughtful and you can tell the owner puts a lot of work and passion into her shop.
google avatar

Jeanine M.

Yelp
Love this store. Made a special trip to it when I was in San Diego. I loved all the mexican themed items and all the Frida stuff as well. You also have to take a selfie with the pedro pascal cut out!
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
Ok wow, I am so glad the only parking spot I could find was in front of this store... I stumbled upon a true gem!! Having lived in San Diego my whole life, and having in-laws from south of our border, I can appreciate and adore the selections they have to offer here in this cute eclectic mercado. Seriously whoever stocks these shelves has put a lot of thought into picking the cutest, most unique Mexican goodies in all the land. From home and food gifts, to jewelry, many handmade toys and clothing, and a cute baby/kids section too. You must stop in if you are nearby. The gals are so sweet and their beautiful gift wrapping brightened up my whole day. I can't wait to give these special gifts to mi familia! Gracias Artelexia!!
google avatar

Livier M.

Yelp
I saw this place on tik tok and knew I had to drop by! As soon as I walked in I instantly wanted every item. I honestly think I did grab one item from every area determined to buy it all. But of course my husband made me put a few things back lol. I event sent a few videos to some friends because I knew they would love to visit a place like this. I ALMOST knocked it down a star mostly because the person helping me check out wasn't super friendly. Matter of fact, she didn't even greet us as we walked in. She pretty much ignored us the entire time. BUT I won't let that one employee ruin it because it truly is a gem.
google avatar

Fati A.

Yelp
Quick trip to SD today! Super excited to have stopped by @artelexia. If you haven't been, it's a vibrant and colorful retail shop located in North Park. It's a shop and an event space specializing in Mexican gifts, art, home decor, and cultural workshops. It was really cool to walk around and see the different items they carry and to learn that they provide guided tours to different parts of Mexico like Oaxaca and San Miguel de Allende through their sister company, @eatdrinkcookmexico. As Día de los Muertos approaches in November, I saw that they had cempasúchil (Marigolds) throughout the shop.
google avatar

Yelp
yas! love this place. I have been an IG follower for awhile! super cool modern Mexican items for fun, cooking, baby, parties, etc. Love the wide assortment of novelty gifts with bad bunny, Selena, and pan dulce vibes. super cute kids section with handmade items and Mexican culture inspired books. love that they carry local Mexican owned brands like Loquita. cooking section has great spices, candy, cooking utensils, and dishes. dog lovers have their own section as well. Fun music! super nice staff. Cant wait to go back and buy more stuff!
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
Super cute shop! I heard about this store through a friend and I'm so glad I made time to check it out while in San Diego. I ended buying a few Selena and pan dulce items. My favorite find was a Selena candle. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Yelp
I usually come here because they have popsicles from Viva Pops but now that Viva Pops has gone out of business they have popsicles from another company. The customer service here is great, the employees are always so helpful even though I'm just buying popsicles. I'm giving this place 5 stars because they support other local businesses!!! I really haven't looked around here but they have a whole lot of Frieda art work!!! The owner is very down to earth and will speak to you about her business. So I know a lot of people complain about the prices but the artist needs to get paid. Not only that but the art work is very nice and you can tell the artist has put some time, love, and effort into their pieces. So show some love to a local shop and support people's dream of making it as an artist!!
google avatar

Yelp
This spot is cool, all things Mexico. I went on a trip to SoCal and other than Porto's I had a hard time finding cool gifts to bring home. I got a awesome gift for my dog, and cool face mask with a Mexican floral design for my friends. Beautiful designs and a must during the pandemic. The whole store has awesome stuff, great gifts that are unique.

Yelp
Such a cute store so many vibrant colors lots of options for novelty gifts or home decor great place for Instagram pictures will definitely come back for another visit

Yelp
Such a cute & cultural store with all kinds of good finds. This store is a must stop when you are in the San Diego, CA area. Prices are reasonable & staff are super nice. You will find things hand made from Mexico or things you wanted but didn't get the chance to buy it when you were in Mexico. I plan on stopping again when I'm in the area or I might just shop online. Love this Hispanic store! You Rock!! Échele Ganas!!!
google avatar

Giselle A.

Yelp
Cute store with a lot of mexican culture. They have everything from jewelry, concha pillows, frida kahlo paintings , luchadores pins and even lil libros books (plus so many other goodies). The most beautiful piece in the store is the Frida painting by the checkout counter. You will find something you like in this store, whether it be for you or for someone else. BTW, the staff wears masks and enforces social distancing by limiting the number of customers inside. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Check this store out! Cheers!

Yelp
I love this place! Support local businesses not to mention- owned by a woman. The items here are unique and great quality. The ladies who work here are always friendly

Yelp
This place is a danger to my wallet-- I came in, got lost for an hour, and left with significantly less in my bank account. Whew. This is several steps above your average novelty store-- Artelexia is one of the most unique stops we made in San Diego, and frankly, one of the highlights of our trip. My boyfriend was enthralled to see such a mix of modern trinkets and traditional goods from his heritage (go POC-owned businesses!). Ngl we spent way too much money here and I have no regrets For COVID safety purposes, the staff all wear masks & gloves, and enforce social distancing by limiting the number of patrons inside. Hand sanitizer is thoughtfully stocked throughout the store. Though we stayed 6+ feet away, the employees still checked in on us (from a safe distance!), ensuring that we were still enjoying our visit at the store. Among the vibrant decor & meticulously-curated shelves, there's something for everyone here-- Mexican snacks, quirky Frida Kahlo stickers, cookbooks, woven baskets, the variety is endless. I wound up taking home a tasseled rug, crunchy cactus sticks (would recommend), and some miscellaneous gifts for family. I've already made Artelexia a must-go for any future San Diego trips and spread the good word to all my friends.

Yelp
Beautifully decorated store with a nod to Frida Kahlo and the Mexican culture, the as artwork both inside and outside are wonderful too. You can find handmade goods and other items like decorations, books, and jewelry. The handmade items are definitely more expensive than the other things but a good store to walk around and find gifts or browse from the vibrant color, it just puts you in a good mood. The store also seems to host events and other activities for the community as Day of the Dead festivities are upcoming, with fliers being advertised. With that said, when walking in I wasn't sure who was a customer and employee as I wasn't greeted and saw a table of three near the front on their laptops. I wasn't sure if they were having a meeting or what was going on until one of them went to the register to help someone purchase items. It was a bit disorganized but a nice, vibrant store to stop in and take a look.

Yelp
Made a specific trip into North Park to visit this store. I live up in Santa Ana where 70% of the population is Latinx and although I've found a few stores in my City that carry some of the items Artlexia does they aren't as comprehensive in the range of items they carry. You can find household items, greeting cards, clothing, stationery, baby items, you name it! I enjoyed taking my time walking around the store and taking it all in, but one visit is not enough. I still don't think I saw everything or my brain registered everything I was seeing. I picked up some fun little gift items to share with friends. I wish there was a second location of this store closer to where I live.
google avatar

Yelp
0 stars for representatives 3.5 starts for product. Bad service, like absolutely no personality from the employees and asked if "is this all you have for (specific product)" was told "yes" and saw much more of the product just around the corner. Purchased over $100 of product and things were dumped into a bag- again ZERO PERSONALITY from employee today Owners, please get better people to represent your business As far as product goes, my mother describes it as "lo que hacen para el dinero, y lo que pagan para el diseño". Meaning prices are marked up just because of what's on it. Which is very true. But you won't find Walter on mugs even in TJ.

Yelp
Super cute Frida Kahlo and Mexican-culture inspired shop! Great for gifting or just for yourself! :) From x-más ornaments (its Xmas time right now), to cookbooks, to cute "luchador" stuff, serapes, to pillows. Check it out if you're near and in the mood for shopping!
