I will start off by saying that we almost aborted our efforts at finding the hotel. (By our arrival in Salzburg, we were on our third week of an almost months-long vacation). We passed it briefly, then our GPS got us lost for a good 15 minutes and we had a dickens of a time trying to find the correct parking garage…until my husband looked at the very clear instructions on the hotel website and our confirmation e-mail from Juliane answering my multitude of questions. We were able to GPS to the correct parking garage and were so surprised to find that it had been built in the mountain adjacent to the tunnel we had just arrived through and directly behind the Pferdeschwemme horse mural and fountain landmark. Just walking through the tunnels of the parking garage was an experience in itself. ||A less than 5 minute walk across the street to the hotel and we were greeted so warmly that I began to rethink my earlier thoughts of driving right back out of Saltzburg. Then we were directed to our room via the lifts (THANK YOU!) and the thought that we could have potentially missed out on such a lovely room with the most spectacular view of the horse mural, the Sigmundstor road tunnel and the Monchsberg mountain mad me want to pinch myself. The view was literally breathtaking. The room, a junior suite, was very large and decorated charmingly, very reminiscent of a mountain lodge. Not overly done or crowded with large furniture. We were also quite surprised that there was a completely separate water closet with toilet, hand sink and built-in storage and across the room behind two barn doors was a bathing room with two separate vanities, hair dryers and a soaking tub/shower combo. Heaven! There was also a cute little blue duck provided to each of us as a souvenir of our stay. ||The beds were comfortable and it was nice to have a separate sitting area to relax with a cup of coffee or tea. On the first floor, there is a very large, self-service tea bar with a full selection of complimentary teas to sample. ||We had breakfast that was included in the cost of the room and they serve made to order eggs and sausage or bacon and to accompany that, there is a buffet of fruits, yogurt, breads and danishes, cheeses and meats along with several beverages of choice. I found the servings of eggs I ordered each morning a little large and I was unable to finish especially after enjoying fresh croissants with butter and chocolate hazelnut spread and my favorite morning latte. ||We found the staff all very warm and welcoming and gave us many good recommendations about places to dine. The restaurant was closed our first day there and we had reservations for the next evening so I cannot give a review on that. We also did not ask for our room to be serviced however, I when we returned from sightseeing, there was a linen bag full of bathroom necessities and towels hanging on our door handle. ||The location can also not be beat. The hotel is literally nestled in the heart of historic Alstadt Salzburg and there is so much to see in the surrounding area. ||Both my husband and I agree that should we return to any of the six hotels we visited during our extended trip, the Arthotel Blaue Gans was probably our favorite.
