I decided to stay at Abode, formerly the Art House (and now the Arthouse again), at the last minute, as I was attending an event nearby. I booked the same afternoon through lastminute.com and found no problems with my late booking. Upon arrival, I was greeted and checked in quickly and courteously and given directions to my room. I made my way up in the lift and found my room with no problems.
The hotel has seen better days, that is true, and I'd say it could use some renovations. Peeling paint, furniture has been knocked about a bit, but it was very clean and the bed and pillows were so comfortable, I could barely wrench myself away from them.
The shower was very powerful, with hot water plentiful. The one downside, and this was unfortunately why I won't be hurrying back, is the noise from the street outside. I was kept awake for a large part of the night by people singing, shouting and screeching outside and then by an alarm going off from about 5am (still going off when I checked out!). Whilst this noise is outwith the control of the hotel, they could look at some better soundproofing for their rooms overlooking Bath Street.
I returned to the hotel around 1am and was greeted by the night porter, who was very friendly and helpful, him and the barman sorted me out with a drink to take to my room.
Check-out was just as hassle-free. I would love to go back but only if I was on the other side of the hotel, as the noise was too much for me.
Room Tip: Ask for a room NOT overlooking Bath Street
