Artisan is as friendly and trendy an Aussie café as it is a predictable mecca for Chiswick's middle classes. We counted no less than six shiny Macbooks when we stopped by, with only a couple of brave Thinkpad owners breaking up the Apple assault. Also competing for table space were parents with young children, students and some senior citizens.
I'm not really sure if it really deserves the attention though. I mean sure, it has the usual exposed brick walls, wooden tables, chairs and floors, homemade cakes, blackboard menus and free wifi so beloved of the trendy café classes. But the coffee is average at best. The flat white I had seemed watery and unexciting. My girlfriend's mocha was similarly uninspired. Call me a heretic, but the flat white I'd just had across the road at Upsy Daisy Bakery, while flawed, was better. Artisan do sell drip coffees which I'd try if I came back. Still, my Artisan experience was less artisan, more underwhelmed.
