On the Grid : Artists & Craftmans Supply Baltimore

"One of the necessary elements of an arts district is an art supply store. Station North is home to one of 25 Artists and Craftmans Supply stores nationwide. Poised at the intersection of the Howard Street and North Avenue bridges, the supply store exudes the warmth of home and an atmosphere of motivation. Considering how vast the store is, you may be surprised to find that there is an upstairs also. As is if the friendly staff and great selection of supplies isn't reason enough to visit, you'd be happy to know that dogs are also welcome!" - Leo Brady

Pretty cool art supply store with fair prices. Nice to have helpful staff who are into art and knowledgeable. I love the artsy, counterculture decor both inside and out. Everything Michael's is not. There's a small discount for educators. Parking is down exterior stairs to the right of the entrance leading down the hill to a small parking lot under the bridge. I parked on the street around the corner.

Love getting supplies and trinkets from this place! Employees are friendly and knowledgeable 😊 can’t wait to re-up when it’s time

Google
This is an awesome store in Baltimore. They have a ton of different art supplies; the staff is knowledgeable, educated and courteous, ready to guide you. I wish they have a store in Miami, with the same staff of course.

Lovely & helpful staff. Barbie & I enjoyed browsing and looking at the beautifully organized supplies. Things seemed a bit pricy but I didn’t get the opportunity to compare it to anything else. I did think $4 was expensive for thumbtacks. The store is on a busy corner. They seem to have parking but I’m not sure how to access it as I do not drive. Google
This store has the biggest selection of fine art supplies I’ve ever seen. Wish I had this place when I was in school.

Google
I’m giving a 5star because I love this store(s) the customer service is always great and the selection is fantastic. With all that said please be mindful to check your Products prior to leaving I purchased 9 shoe paints and 6 of them were old becoming Chunky in texture or a few days from it. (Requiring another trip😅 ). It happens but with that large of a selection of spoiled paint I hope the staff can check them prior to putting them on the shelf 🥴😅 (and checking them periodically) Back to the love ❤️ for this store 🥰

Google
This is the BIGGEST art store I’ve ever seen. My husband went back to feed the meter because no way would I see everything before our time ran out. There’s a little bit of everything and many things I’d never seen before. It’s like walking into Wonka’s factory but with no calories. Some of the prices are a little high and some are good. Whether you need kids’ craft stuff, stretched canvas, paint & brushes, or a gift for an artsy friend, you’ll probably find it here.

Google
One of my favorite art stores. I have been going here since my college days. They have lots of great items. Plus the staff is very kind and knowledgeable. Parking can be tricky. They have a parking lot underneath the store with a set of long stairs that gets you to the store.

Yelp
This place is art supply Disney World! I was totally overwhelmed by the fun and funky interior, the two stories of art supply goodness, and the very thorough array of Cool Stuff. You cannot see the whole store in 30 minutes-- expect an hour to fully explore the nooks and crannies of this significant space. (A clerk told me that this building on North Avenue used to be the B&O Railroad HQ-- bonus points for the history.) Prices are decent, service is friendly. I was able to buy everything I came for plus a few more things that I had to have. On top of an excellent selection of painting, drawing, and printmaking supplies, Artist and Craftsman had a fun section of toys, masks, and Archie McPhee-type weirdness-- also Kikkerland products. The paper selection is heart-breakingly beautiful and inspirational. My only complaint is that the lighting could be better. The fluorescent lights are on a very high ceiling and not as effective-- you really notice the light difference when you are near the entrance doors which provide great visibility. This will always be my art supply go-to. I am so thrilled to find a decent art supply store in Baltimore!

Yelp
My favorite art store in the baltimore area. They have more than you can wish for-it's a great place to go for inspiration too.

Yelp
This was a great spot. The staff was very friendly and had plenty of advice when I asked and left me to browse in peace the rest of the time. That is a skill not many people have. There was a great selection of stock and this is where I'll be going for now on for my supplies.

Yelp
This is a terrific store. First, the space itself looks great. Also, it's entertaining just to browse up and down the aisles. And finally the employees were really friendly and helpful. 5 stars....FYI, I found parking just up the block on Maryland Ave (close to North Ave). The parking meters only run until 6pm. So if your schedule permits, weekdays after 6 seems like a good time to visit.

Yelp
This is a funky, spacious two story artist supply shop located in the Station North Arts District. The prices are amazingly affordable. The staff is friendly, patient and knowledgeable. They never make you feel dumb for asking questions. They also have teacher and student discounts. The only down side? You could literally get lost in here! They have nearly anything and everything on your art supply shopping list and then some. I love the colorful interior. This is very likely the best art/hobby store in the Baltimore area.

Yelp
Has a lot to offer at good discounts and the staff is there to help. My favorite art supply store.

Yelp
We came back and it was just as wonderful as I remembered. My sons and I came here to get supplies to make valentines for their classmates and to get a birthday present for a fellow kindergartener. We got everything we needed (plus a long wishlist for birthdays, etc.)

Yelp
I wandered into this shop with the expectation of dropping to my knees, taking out my wallet, and burning it ceremoniously in front of the art supply gods in hopes of pleasing them for a deal, any deal, on what are usually inflated supply prices. I grew up in the "art" world, I know how these supply stores are. Well, I am happy to say, I was welcomed by discounts, knowledgeable and helpful staff, and a rather pleasant shopping experience that left me with exactly what I needed at a price far below what I had expected to pay. So.....as far as art supply shops go, I found the one I am gonna go to. -The staff didn't eye me as I walked the aisle, fearing I would steal a micro pen to sate my creepy art school fetishism (I'm not an art student, I'm a fireman. I should make that clear) -They asked me immediately what I was looking for, found it for me, and then found a cheaper version for me. -Tons of crap is on sale. In conclusion, shop here. Fin

Yelp
Good lord this place is dangerous! I almost wish I'd never stopped in because now it's going to be impossible not to blow my paycheck on whatever supplies are necessary for my crafting whim of the week. But with prices this low how will I be able to resist! I'm pretty much resigned to being perpetually broke but up to my ears in quality craft supplies. Plus they offer a 10% student discount. I THINK I DIED AND WENT TO HEAVEN.

Yelp
It is awesome here I like to come here because it's not that far from my school. They have good service and they help you when they can.

Yelp
Great store, always has everything I need, my only complaint is small, but parking is always tough just because of the location. I'm not a mica student so I can't get into the lot so I have to park on the street somewhere newrby

Yelp
Small but useful store with many supplies and items for the artist or someone like myself who is making her own save the dates. We picked up two stamp pads, thick card stock, and some materials for my fiancee for just under $ 70. Parking is metered and nearby, it's kind of a sketch neighborhood at night. The store associates were very helpful. Quirky artists and hipsters are right at home.

Yelp
This place is so convenient, it right by my school and it's over the rainbow! They have everything you need and more! They also give student discounts ( as if the stuff isn't cheap enough for you.) The owner, I believe is an old guy with glasses, he's very friendly and informative. So if you ever have any questions about what you need to buy, he'll definitely help you as much as he can. I got a few microns and some basswood sticks. I had concerns if I could cut basswood with an x - acto box cutting knife, but he did a demonstration for me and it cut perfectly. Great service, great prices, great location!

Yelp
I love this place. It's inexpensive, has lots of great art supplies and you never know what you are going to find. For instance, last time I was there, I picked up this awesome little alligator that was sitting on the shelf and it was only 99 cents when I went to pay! There's also lots of pads, paper, printmaking supplies, paint, canvas and I'm sure lots of other art supplies I can't think of!! Also, unlike Utrecht/dick blick and Plaza, I don't think this place is a chain, but I might be wrong. Also, there used to be a dude who worked there and he always wore a red cape!!! But I didn't see him the last time I was there. The only negative is parking is tough. Be prepared to search.

Yelp
Great selection, well stocked. Affordable in the art store kind of way. I was impressed by their selection of wax and resin.. two items that are frequently missing from nyc's pearl.

Yelp
Why I approve: - Decor - once you look at the store, even before you walk in, you know it's a unique and original place with unique and original employees - 15-20% off of the manufacturer's suggested list price - 10% student/teacher discount with ID - Biggest art store in Baltimore and has all sorts of material including paints, sculptures, framing, watercolors, wood panels - Good customer service

Yelp
I can't express how much I love this place. I went in to start my new hobby of painting and came out Decked with all I needed and MORE. Inexpensive, but can be dangerous when going on Pay day. I will be back again probably today to buy more acrylic paint.... Also, the staff was beyond helpful, kind and made the shopping experience even more enjoyable. Kita is so friendly. Thanks Everyone!

Yelp
This is a little hidden gem in a not-so-good neighborhood. They offer exactly what the name implies, things for fine artists and things for craftsmen. Whether you need fine products for a giant oil painting or supplies to carve wood or make a scrapbook---they have what you need for the most part. The prices are super low, better than the other art stores downtown as well as the big boxes in the suburbs. If you are a student, remember to ask for the student discount, I think it is 10% maybe? To find parking, you can park behind Loads of Fun right off Howard St. there is a parking lot or yo will have to find a spot a couple blocks away on Maryland Ave or Charles St. They have absolutely NO parking. There are 3 meter spots out front of the big MICA building by the bus stop, but those are usually taken. I have rated this place with 4 stars because of lack of parking and the employees are hit and miss. Sometimes they are super helpful and friendly, and other times they are aloof and do not even notice they have customers. Other than that, this place has a lot of items I am surprised by, things I usually have to order off the internet, but they have them and they have them at incredible prices!!

Yelp
Maybe they read my mind or heard my bitchin' and whinin' but I'd like to confirm that yes, they have many adhesive tapes now. Also, more pens. YAY.

Yelp
I'm a MICA student, so I'm pretty sure I'm A&C's target audience. Because of this, my needs are catered to well here. It's within walking distance and has a wide range of things at very reasonable prices. The first time I went I just wandered around for a while marveling at things like tiny model people, metallic paints, textured paper, and humorous postcards. While I haven't bought paper from there, I hear it's the cheapest around. It's a great place to grab something you need for a project but while there you may end up picking up a few things you don't need, per say, but that pique your interest and stir up your creativity. And what more can you ask from an art supply store? Well, I suppose a student discount, but they have that too!

Caitlyn M.

Yelp
This art store is really rare. It has a great selection, good prices and good customer service. It's an amazing trifecta of awesome. It has a nice variety of goods, I can waste hours in this store just perusing the aisles! You will find all the basics you could ask for as well as a variety of fun extras. I regularly purchase gifts here as they have such an eclectic range of items. In addition to art supplies, I have found some of the coolest novelty erasers I have ever seen, incredibly unique stickers, and a nice group of wholesome kids toys (I have a nephew for whom I get something small almost every time I visit). They also have cool reusable bags and funky socks that I have gifted to friends as well. But on top of that the prices are very reasonable. It actually astonishes me how affordable they are. And that's the regular prices, when they have sales - watch out! - you will have a hard time leaving without taking advantage of some of the incredible deals. Add to this that the staff are actually friendly, accommodating, helpful and encouraging. I have found that to be somewhat rare at art stores. At other art stores, I typically either find staff who have no idea where to find products (or what products I am even talking about) or people who have a sense of entitlement because they are "artistes" and they make me feel like a bit of a poser since I am not at their level. No thanks. The staff here are the opposite. They know their stuff and they go out of their way to help you find exactly what you need (even if you are a little vague on what exactly that is). The atmosphere is laid back and casual. I have had the staff stop me at the register before ringing in an item to ask me if I had seen a similar product they carry that is more affordable (I had not seen it, it was exactly what I needed and it saved me a decent amount of $$ - WOW! She suggested this on her own, I would have happily left paying for the much more expensive product - but because of experiences like this, I will always be back!). This place really is a gem!

Yelp
What a great art store. It's a local art store which makes it so much better than those chains and the staff is really helpful and very knowledgable

Yelp
Don Sinish and his crew at the North Av. location in the Station North Arts & Entertainment District are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and thorough. They make great suggestions and, as a result, have me walking out of there a happy and well-supplied customer. The store is very well-stocked with a wide selection of products for a variety of skill levels -- just an overall good resource with nice people.

Aaron D.

Yelp
Big selection of art supplies, especially good for you MICA printmakers around, the paper here is cheaper than the other art stores around. I go here mostly when I'm working at the studio center because it's so conveniently close.

Galen P.

Yelp
I wish cities still had more stores like this. The staff is knowledgable and friendly and there's a huge variety of artist specialty supplies.
