This has been one of my first stops when shopping for gifts for a few years now. It has a really great selection, with fair prices for the quality of what is sold. I am happy to know my money supports artists in a difficult city to afford. I have recommended it to many. I was saddened, however, by receiving no apology after being accused of shoplifting a ring (one worth 130 dollars)!
Now, due to the importance of this establishment's relationship to their artists, I wouldn't have been offended just to assuage any doubts by being asked just to show the teller my hands. My coat is oversized, covers my hands, and I had one hand in my pocket; I understand the nerves that must come with her role.
But to stop me, then indicate that she saw me trying on rings, and then state that I am "hiding my hands" is already an unfriendly, accusing tone. Upon showing my hands, I did not receive an apology for the suspicion that I had robbed a local artist and store of $130. Just a "have a good day" which carried zero audible remorse.
I left embarrassed by something I didn't do, for the crime of looking around one of my favourite stores without buying something - today, as opposed to truly every other visit. I am, like the majority of the people in my life, a young artist. Even ignoring the rest, I worry about why she didn't feel the need to apologize. I hope my experience is unique.
I don't really care for an apology now; I wont be returning. I am only writing this in hopes that all your customers can be given equal respect, as I still hope this store and the other locations continue to be successful.
