I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. I arrived early in the morning to learn the manager would be leaving shortly. She warned me about how dangerous the area was and tried to rush me into making plans for the day before leaving for the weekend. Later that evening, I was handed a panic button by another staff member with no explanation for why I needed this, until I called the host who simply said everyone has one and it will call the local security company. After ending the call, I went to take a shower to discover there was no running water. I couldn’t reach the manager to resolve the issue and was left scrambling to find alternative lodging at 8p in the evening. Attempts to request a refund have been ignored. I’m a solo traveler, who’s been all over the world, including several countries in Africa and have never encountered anything like this or felt so unsafe. Since moving to a new location I have had no issues and am enjoying Johannesburg

A gathering of academics.|The guesthouse was fully booked with the annual international students migration, and hostess was hospitable and attentive to guests.|The pool was green... but rooms clean, cosy and comfortable.|No toiletries provided, but room scenter available and 1 bed lamp not working, otherwise bed and breakfast satisfactory.|Noise in kitchen may disturb sensitive sleepers.|Building is over a century old! Probably explains the luke warm instead of hot water.||Disclaimer: review is over a year late.....as still unpacking memories and reviews....

The reception and hospitality is very good. From the moment you show up, during the stay and when you leave. Breakfast was very good and at the time I had pre booked it for. I managed to be well on time for my personal commitments. ||

It was a stay we will never forget. All staff were lovely, and the manager Neo was extremely friendly, helpful and warm. The area was safe, but not much to do near by. But easy to get to different areas and the center. We will definitely stay there again when in Joburg.

Arum place was very close to Helen Joseph Hospital where I had to work. The cottage was very well equipped and clean. Self catering. The electric blanket was a winner on a very cold JHB evening and morning. Staff very friendly and breakfast had a good variety and tables very beautifully set. Overall a good stay. Thank you, keep up the good work.

I honestly cannot find anything to fault about this place - from the moment we set foot into the Guest house, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room which was really clean and looked exactly like it did in the pictures - if not better! (I expected a little less actually). They had 2 heaters switched on, so on arrival the room was nice and warm. The complementary drinks and chocolates were an added bonus too! Breakfast was really good (as promised) with a view to their exquisite porch. All in all, we loved our stay there! Would definitely go back :)

We left from Hoedspruit at 08:30 and arrive in Johannesburg at 15:00 and had to search for the Guest House, I tried my GPS but not accurate. What is confusing is the fact that the address is in Melville or Westdene.||After enquiring at a fuel station, we arrive at Arum Place Guest House and nobody at home. After a while there appear a woman from down the street. The main entrance is good but could not park my vehicle in small garage and was referred to the back. The guy assists us with our baggage up the steps. When we arrived there, it was loadshedding and no water, we spend the night in hot and humid condition. There was no air-conditioning as advertised. The next day the host moved us to a room near the entrance and has back up power but still no water. The host was very helpful and assist where she could. I would recommend that they install a generator for backup power.
