Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge

"Nestled in the foothills of Mount Meru, 30 cottages are surrounded by one of Tanzania's largest coffee plantations for an ideal pre- or post-safari stopover near the town of Arusha. The aroma of freshly ground beans wafts over the rooms and suites' wood-beamed interiors. Don't miss the coffee-making experience—beans are cooked in a skillet to release their oils, and then ground using a massive mortar and pestle—to have fresh Tanzanian coffee with the local villagers and learn more about the area firsthand. A private swimming pool, garden terrace, and indoor-outdoor restaurant serving up meals and picnic lunches (or 24-hour room service if you prefer) make it a cozy stay with impeccable service."

The New Business Traveler: Camp Yoshi's Rashad Frazier on Making the Most of a Scouting Trip to Tanzania

"We spent our first night at the Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge. One of Tanzania's biggest exports is coffee, so we had this coffee-making experience—the beans were cooked in a skillet to release the oils, and ground using a massive pestle and mortar—and we had fresh Tanzanian coffee with the local village chief and his family and learned about the area."

The Arusha coffee lodge is overall really wonderful. Top highlights include great food, beautiful gardens and grounds, and really outstanding service (e.g., Colletta). The coffee tour was also really great and Johanna did a terrific job and made it fun, educational, and delicious. Rooms are pretty nice but could use some updating (e.g., power outlets were worn). Net, a place that I would definitely recommend.

We arranged to stay here for 2 nights to recuperate after a very long trip from Vancouver for our safari. The location is truly warm and welcoming with old world charm. While there we took the coffee tour with (I hope I'm remembering correctly) Martin, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING ON IT, very informative and interesting! As a rest stop it worked out very well, all the staff was absolutely charming and welcoming and they definitely live by the Hakuna Matata (relax, don't worry) motto. I lost the key to our lodge and they repeatedly Hakuna Matata'd me, I retraced my steps and thank goodness found it the next day! Some of the lodges are nearer to the main road and many lorries (British for heavy trucks) would rumble by and if you're in one of the closer lodges you can feel the vibration, if you’re a light sleeper you may want to ask for a further away lodge. As we are light sleepers, the staff was happy to switch us to different lodge, very accommodating! I want to give a special mention to the guest liaison (darn can't remember her name!! You know who you are) with whom I had a lovely chat during my last breakfast. She was charming and very interested in my thoughts and opinions in order to make any improvements to the lodge, such as adding more activities, archery, pickle ball courts, etc., as there isn’t much to do except relaxing (nothing wrong with that!). Lastly, I want to point out what a beautiful place the Shanga Workshop and Gift shop is. Here many local people with different handicaps are employed to make all types of crafts that are sold in the gift shop, absolutely marvelous endeavor to allow them to earn a living. Overall a most wonderful experience!! We highly recommend it.

What a beautiful setting with a warm and welcoming staff. Our accommodations were top notch and we felt very welcomed here. I could stay for several days to just relax among their beautiful gardens.

Arusha Coffee Lodge is more than just a stop, it’s an experience. We spent an afternoon here and were blown away by the serenity of the environment. The lodge is tucked inside the coffee plantations, and the atmosphere is so peaceful that time seems to slow down. We ordered pizza and hot drinking chocolate, and both were delightful—the kind of comfort food that tastes even better when you’re surrounded by lush greenery and calm. The service was warm and attentive, and it felt like every detail was designed to help you relax and enjoy the moment. If you’re in Arusha and looking for a cozy place to unwind, enjoy good food, and soak in nature’s calm, Arusha Coffee Lodge is the perfect choice.

After our visit the cultural heritage center we went to a quiet place for lunch. Gorgeous but very expensive food. Had lunch in the garden whilst an artist painted. His beautiful work was set up in the garden to enjoy. Service is incredible - the complimentary bread was superb.

Place is stunning entry to your Tanzania safari journey. Rooms are spacious. Coffee tour is great. And the food was amazing. However, I would suggest that they dont ask for reviews in person before you leave. I was accosted when i made a suggestion that checking should be more personable. The manager actually interrogated me in front of my travel partners as to my comments which made me very uncomfortable.

We stayed one night during the beginning of our honeymoon at Arusha Coffee Lodge. The rooms are very spacious and had a great bathroom and bed, as well as a lovely welcome present for us - there were several surprises set up all around our home such as truffles and champagne! The food was good, but the real highlight were the grounds and the sensation of walking through a magical forest, sprinkled with monkeys jumping through the trees! A great start to our adventure.

Our time at Arusha Coffee Lodge was positive - the grounds are well kept, and the lodge itself was large and quite clean. The staff was friendly and attentive but at times confused with the package we had (full board) and thus gave us bills to sign following meals. It got cleared up upon checkout of course. ||Our biggest concern was the food - it was fantastic, but there was a lot of it. Every dinner was 4 courses and thus a lot of waste. It would be nice to reduce a course and include water in the cost, rather than charging guests for bottles, especially when you are unable to drink the tap water.
