I'm rarely compelled to write a review for anything anywhere, but my experience here was worth sharing. I'm a Best Western rewards member. This place, as fancy as it is, is still just a Best Western wrapped in a few glimmery layers. I selected it because there was a good deal and I wanted some extra rewards points before i went home. I rolled into bougie Coconut Grove after a couple of weeks of camping in the Keys (which is not a cheap undertaking) saddled with some sunburns, bug bites, rough skin, extra gear, sleepy eyes. and generally looking a bit out of place. I unloaded my extra bags from the car and a staff member standing beside me pretended not to see me. He looked off into the distance and ignored me. I had to leave half of my belongings outside on the curb and make two trips to my room. When I walked to the desk to check in I swear to you I thought I must have farted - the disdain on the faces of the people checking me in was unmistakable. Maybe they were arguing amongst themselves about something unrelated to me before I walked in, but they did nothing to make me feel welcome or warm and acted like they didn't understand why I was there, despite me greeting them with "hi, I reserved a room online and I'm here to check in." Two staff members said they couldn't figure out how to check me in without the card I used to reserve the room handy (my partner did it from home with a card I left on the dresser) and told me they would prefer to cancel my reservation and ask me to please step away, find my phone, and reserve it again (a third staff member intervened and solved the problem, thankfully). They gave me no information about the property, my check out time, etc. When I asked they pretended to not hear me, so I left to take my first load of bags up. There was a QR code in the room for hotel information, but the printer had smeared part of it and it didn't work. When I stopped by the desk on my way to grab my second load of unattended bags from the sidewalk I asked about a late check out time and was told with a sneer, "...our late check out times are full." I asked what that meant and they turned away and ignored me.
Here's the thing: the room was gorgeous and I would have been happy with my stay and not catalogued its flaws, but I was pretty annoyed with being treated like garbage. Sorry I didn't change into my boat shoes and pop my collar before coming in, guys, but I have money and it's green.
Anyway, the room had German roaches. I found a couple of them that were dying, which means they're treating for them, but these ain't the big daddies crawling in from outside. They're the little guys that live in the walls. They are in the middle of an infestation that will take a long time and a lot of money to treat. They may travel home with you. Be careful.
The amenities they offer may or may not work. The ice machine was disgusting and the shelf you set the bag (not bucket) on was broken, so getting ice required three hands. There was a washer and dryer, which was great! But they didn't work, so I wasted money on detergent and time trying to fix it, which is not my responsibility.
There was a full kitchen, which was great! But the dishwasher squirmed with live and half dead roaches, which sucked.
One phone didn't work. One lamp was broken. The couch springs were broken and it sagged in the middle.
If y'all are going to treat me like trash that's not good enough to stay here just because I just came from a campground you could at least have the decency to give me a room that's too good for me too. But since you can't, humble yourselves: you are a Best Western wearing lipstick.
