Asado has always been one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne, but I unfortunately had a mixed experience tonight. The food, while impeccable as usual, could not make up for the underwhelming service.
We received incorrect items twice. Our chicken main also took nearly half an hour to arrive after our entrees, and by the time we finished this, our 2-hour dining time was up. We were immediately given the bill and essentially asked to vacate the table, without even being offered dessert (which we were looking forward to). I had to ask my server if we could at least order dessert before we go, and only then did she offer to move us to a window table instead. When we were finally ready to settle the bill, we couldn’t find any staff member to assist us. We ended up having to come up to the counter to pay so that we could leave in time for our show.
While I understand the decision to uphold the dining time policy, I believe the situation could have been handled more delicately, particularly for a restaurant of this caliber and price point. It was unfortunate that these issues affected what could have been a fantastic dinner, especially as I had to go out of my way to ask for a service that should have been offered to me in the first place.
I did communicate some of these issues to my server, however it very much felt like my concerns were brushed off. It almost makes me glad that I wasn’t celebrating a special occasion tonight, otherwise I can’t imagine how much more disappointed I would have been.
