Ascension Cathedral

Ascension Cathedral is one of the most beautiful and iconic landmarks in Almaty. The cathedral is located inside a big park, and there are many other places to explore nearby, such as Guardsmen Park. The surroundings make the whole area peaceful and enjoyable for a long walk. This was my first time visiting any church, and the experience was amazing. The cathedral is very vibrant, colourful, and beautifully lit. The environment inside felt calm and spiritual, making the visit even more memorable. The architecture is stunning, and the entire structure is built without using nails, which is truly impressive. If I get the opportunity, I would love to visit again and also explore other churches in the future. If you are visiting Almaty, Ascension Cathedral is definitely a must-visit place.

Ascension Cathedral was honestly one of the most surprising places I visited in Almaty. I’d seen photos before going, but they really don’t do it justice. The colors, the woodwork, the whole structure it’s incredibly detailed and feels almost like something from a storybook. Hard to believe it was built entirely out of wood and survived major earthquakes. The inside is peaceful and beautifully decorated, though it can get a bit busy depending on the time of day. Even so, people were respectful and quiet, and it didn’t feel overly touristy. I just stood there for a while taking in the icons and the painted ceilings. The cathedral is right in Panfilov Park, which makes the whole visit even nicer. After walking around inside, I spent some time strolling through the park—it’s a great spot to relax and watch people go by. If you’re visiting Almaty, this is definitely a place to add to your list. It doesn’t take long to see, but it leaves a strong impression. Whether you’re into architecture, history, or just looking for a pretty and peaceful place to visit, it’s absolutely worth it.

A truly wonderful cathedral, built entirely of wood. Not only is it impressive from the outside, but inside you can also admire the furnishings and the pastor's singing. As in most Orthodox churches, women are required to wear a headscarf. We recommend the EverJazz jazz bar just around the corner from the church.

Orthodox church at the center of panfilov park. The chruch is beautiful and easy to reach. Inside church is peaceful. I went there on the morning, so there are not much tourist. The light that travel through the mirror make the chuch more beautiful.

I absolutely loved the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty such a beautiful building the colorful wooden architecture , especially the greenery of Panfilov Park. Stepping inside felt calm and peaceful, It’s amazing to think the whole structure is made of wood and has survived for over a century. Definitely one of my favorite spots in the city perfect for a quiet moment or just to admire the craftsmanship.

A beautiful Orthodox cathedral and a peaceful place to visit. It’s nice to see how Orthodox worship is done. Visitors can go inside starting at 10:00 AM. Photos and videos are allowed inside, just be respectful — don’t treat it like a photo studio and avoid taking photos of people who are praying.
