Absolutely loved Ash Pit Rd DOC Camp.
Lake was clean and refreshing.
Long drop toilets kept in good condition
Hope to get back there again

We were alone for a night in early June. No water, the toilets were extremely sold out. The campsite is, however, very pleasant by the water. Unfortunately, we were woken up during the night from midnight to 4 a.m. by a 4x4 drifting and honking all over the campsite as it passed very close to us. We have never felt so bad in New Zealand.

A simple campsite with lots of space, although we couldn't get a lakefront spot (early Jan). The campsite is 20 minutes down a rural road and there is no civilisation nearby, so make sure you stop for food and water before arriving.
There were lots of toilets, though some were nicer than others. The water taps (non-potable) tend to run out around 11am as everyone uses it up. There was a hut for a solar shower and a shelter with tables.
The lake heats up a bit during the day and there's a barge you can swim out to. Definitely a good place to kayak and paddle board but no place to hire them on-site.

Beautiful camp site with incredible views. A walking track and great for cayaking. Only about 38km from Rotorua. Couldnt find a single shop near by though.

Within an hour and a half from Tauranga. Peaceful with nice walking tracks around the perimeter by the tree line. Great for kids. No fires or dogs permitted.

DOC is now overpriced at $15pp. No real facilities, but lovely area.

Not a bad campground. Only downside is that the water is not running.
