We stayed in the "French Country Suite" at The Ashbrooke for a long weekend in mid-August. The suite was on the second floor, with a spectacular view of the parking lot (as parking lots go, it's very nice). There's lot of space, which is nice, and the bed is comfortable. Large flat-screen tv over the gas fireplace. The room was clean, with decor reminding me of a Wingate Inn circa 1999... lots of blonde wood. I'm not big on decor, though,so it's not going to make or break a stay for me. Besides, finding truly modern decor in Door County like what you would find at a W Hotel or an Andaz is just not going to happen.
The bathroom is nice and big. The shower is fine, though it seems to be designed for people shorter than 5'3".
The gazebo on the grounds is very picturesque.
A note of warning: This hotel is not optimal for people with disabilities. I don't know if there are rooms that are ADA compliant, and I didn't see an elevator or an automatic door-opener (but that doesn't mean they weren't there). I had to haul our luggage up the stairs, which might be a challenge for older guests.
I saw on another review website that people were complaining about the muffins available in the lobby. I didn't try the muffins, because I feel like breakfast is something that restaurants in Door County take pride in, and to not take advantage is a mistake. The Village Cafe is a three minute walk down the road. What do you need muffins for?
Overall, this was a pleasant and comfortable place to stay, and I'd recommend it for people who value modern amenities like free wi-fi and a flat-screen tv. I'd probably come back, given the opportunity.
