Stay here the night before South Cape Bay hike so you can get an early start. It's the most cozy, homely B&B you'll ever come across. Enjoy dinner and breakfast, feed the sheep and kick back by the fire.
We had the pleasure of staying at Ashdowns of Dover, and it was undoubtedly the best B&B we visited during our trip to Tasmania. The host, Gary, has an impressive knowledge of the area and beyond. Our room was well-appointed and comfortable. The full breakfast was exceptional and plentiful, with the homemade jams being a highlight, they can also be purchased to take home. We enjoyed feeding the sheep and chickens and were thrilled to see a platypus in the creek at the bottom of the property. This B&B feels just like staying with friends.

Gary was a wonderful host, and the farm was a truly tranquil place to unwind. It’s an ideal base for exploring the southeast of Tasmania. Gary went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, booking a dinner reservation for us, preparing the outdoor fire so we could sit out and watch the stars, and even providing gumboots for exploring the property. The breakfast he prepared the next morning was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, setting us up perfectly for another day of exploring. We highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting the area.

This was a great bed & breakfast - very clean and nice rooms, each with a private bathroom. Gary is a lovely host with lots of experience and makes a good English breakfast. The standout features of the property are the firepit, beautiful green views, and the river that’s a short walk on the property where you can also spot platypus!

What a wonderful place to stay as part of a discover Tasmania by car. Gary is an amazing host who thought of everything, gumboots to wear out on the farm, a torch to guide you to the fire pit, heated towel racks, dressing gowns, wonderful homemade pineapple jam and to top all this off Gary reserved a table at the local RSL for dinner for us as he knew that the RSL would be full that night. Delightful breakfast! This is truly an amazing B & B, far above everywhere else and so deserves all those commendations that adorn the walls. Thank you so much Gary!

We have just completed our 3 week road trip of Tassie and must comment on This exceptional B&B Ashdowns of Dover. We were contacted by Gary before we even arrived to see if we had made an evening meal booking because it was going to be a big night in town--he booked our table at the local RSL and when we arrived at Ashdowns of Dover we were greeted with scones jam and cream. How good is that ?. A very homely, clean, and spaceous room. Excellent breakfasts and they even have sheep in the paddocks and a lovely quite serene posh shed down the back by the river where you can listen to the silence and talk to a platypus. I really dont know where Gary gets his drive/energy from but I want some of what he's having. A most enjoyable stay and very highly reccommended, Noel Cavanagh WA
