I spent 5 nights in Asheton,it is a low budget hotel. The windows, doors are very nice. The green garden is amazing. My room was comfortable and the bed too.I had hot shower. There was problem in water supply in the city but for this the hotel could not do nothing except providing buckets with water. Breakfast and coffee in the morning was very good and fast.Fikr the manager was always kind and helpful with me.the main living room and the whole structure needs some renovations and mantainance to give a better impression and make it more comfortable; the place is nice just needs some mantainance, despite this I would choose it again even because it is in a quiet location

The location is great, the rooms are okay. Not special, but at least there is hot water coming from the shower the entire day, a luxury in Ethiopia. Little point of criticism, the reception guys are nice, but their ‘help’ is not always in your favor. For example, check yourself if the regular airport shuttles are really not driving, before booking a more expensive tuktuk through them. ||Overall, a decent choice in Lalibela.

I live in Addis and have been visiting Lalibela for many years - Lalibela is the first place I take my Ethiopia visitors. As such I have visited most of the <$50 hotels in Lalibela at one point or another. Many are lovely, but Asheton is unbelievable. Some of the rooms need a little maintenance - a loose door knob or a cover on the shower heaters. But all of the rooms have hot water, the rooms surround a silent thicket of plants including local spices (eg, tenadem), and there's a sweet little courtyard for breakfast, (which is very generous, and included on some booking platforms). I would stay here if it were three times the price, and my visitors last weekend insisted on paying for their free breakfast, because they felt guilty that such a lovely place and such a huge breakfast (anything on the menu for free) was so cheap. The hotel is one minute from the central square, but down a quiet road so silent at night. I didn't meet a member of staff I didn't find pretty adorable, including when we got them up at 5am to wander to the church, and they insisted on walking us.

I am a long term traveler crossing the whole Africa from South to North. I stayed in this hotel for a week enchanted by their comfortable bed ( the best I have slept in Ethiopia) , the warm whole day shower ( very rare in Ethiopia) and at the same time affordable price. The personnel was very kind. The hotel has nice gardens full of flowers visited each afternoon by a beautiful hummingbird. My point of view is from a person who live on the road, so I highly appreciate the small details that maybe for others are not so important. I was veeeeery glad to have chosen this hotel as part of my rest time in Lalibela. My best regards to the whole staff who was very welcoming and accommodating. Thank youuuuu!

a lovely little local hotel with charming personnel and owner, great breakfast.Very calming and relaxing when you are out of your comfort zone.flower garden, comfortable beds and bathrooms correct for the area, clean, don't forget to turn the boiler on for your shower 15 mins before. Take a frontal light with you to Lalibela for churches etc often power cuts.Good little pizza rest opposite don't be put off by the aspect outside good food in the evening when you don't want to walk outside in the dark.,

I have spent 2 nights at the Asheton hotel in Lalibela last week and it was the most horrible experience I have ever had in a hotel. This hotel is managed by two crooks who charge different prices to every guest. It did not take long before I found that out and complained about it, at which point they apologised and offered a discount for the second night. They stalked me and every other guest, trying to sell me tours and services for the whole duration of my stay there. At the end, they tried to rip me off with the transfer to the airport at which point I openly criticised them in front of other guests. They then turned aggressive and ordered me to 'stop talking'. I was feeling threatened at a place where I should be welcomed. I do not understand how this hotel can be recommended by Lonely Planet. Honestly, the guidebook is full of mistakes and misguided recommendations, but this is the worst surprise I had! This place is a real disgrace for Ethiopian tourism.

Asheton Hotel has all you need. It is comfortable, cleen, cozy, the rooms are a lot better than Ethiopia's standard at this price. We were surprised to find such a cheap place in a touristic place as Lalibela. The other comments complaining about electricity or wifi cuts are not relevant because this is actually the problem of the whole country, not only this hotel. If you come from a developed country, you have to accept this, because the hotels are not responsible for the cuts. Also, for the ones complaining about bugs, truth is that you can find some everywhere in Lalibela, this is countryside.||Finally, a good mention for the staff that was a lot friendly and helpful at all times. Hope we'll come back one day !

Spent a weekend at Asheton - very clean room, clean linens and comfortable bed for a very reasonable price. Had hot water both nights - much appreciated given we had trekked many miles and been blasted by dust devils in the market. Unfortuantely, no water the morning of our departure - would have been good if a bucket had been supplied to each room to manage that problem rather than a smile and "yea, no water". Very nice group of guys running the place - never clear on who was the head though which made for some complicated discussions at time - agreed prices, etc. The hotel arranged a guide for our one trek - nice but only knowledgeable about the route and nothing else. Also did not comprehend english that well. Staying relaxed and flexible is a good thing to keep in mind - everyone is a bit casual and slow to get going in the morning. Laid back, easy going, and happy is the best way to describe them all. Also very helpful.
