Good spot for music. If you've got tickets for a show upstairs and friends don't but wanna hang, you can pop downstairs, grab some pizza or something and hang, then go back up whenever. Plus there's music downstairs that's typically donation based. Check it out.

An absolutely great place to catch a show. Planned or unplanned. Fast and awesome tenders of the bar! Great bands lined up week after week. Bumpin Uglys was everything I wanted!

Google
Great place, I really give it 2 stars. I went to the Work IT party and it was great for about 3 hours and I think the DJ had a few drinks and just started playing other music....a lot to where a lot of us just stopped dancing around 1130 midnight. We stuck around another half an hour and realized what we paid for was over as far as music we paid to hear. If it was a regular club I would have no issues but to hear 1 2Pac song no Three 6 Mafia, no Trick Daddy one Biggie song and our music would play for 2 mins and change but when he put on the Latin and other music it seemed like every song got fully played. Anyway, great venue great bar but the dj guy shouldn't have gotten paid to drink tequila shots and play music for his friends. My husband and I won't be paying to come to parties here anymore because we didn't get what we paid for when it came to hearing the popular music of the 2000s and 90s. We looked forward to it and skipped other good date night options and it just wasn't worth it.

Terrific little venue with great sound and decent food. It’s Asheville so you know what parking is like

****Updated Review**** After getting in touch with the owner about the previous issue, I could not be more satisfied with how accommodating and helpful he has been. Within a few days of starting a dialogue, my ticket was refunded. -------------- This used to be one of my favorite venues in town. However, after my latest interaction- or should I say, lack thereof- with them, I will not be going back there. On April 16th, I purchased a ticket for the Boombox show that was happening on the 18th. On the 17th, I just so happened to see a post on their Facebook page from April 7th saying the show was postponed. I have no idea why they postponed a show but continued to sell tickets for it for 9 days. I commented on the post announcing the postponement and asked for a refund. No response. I've emailed them several times. No response. I've messaged their Facebook page. No response. I have had bad experiences with businesses before, but I've never been flat out ignored by one. They dropped the ball when they let me buy a ticket to a show that was already postponed. Then they ignored any attempt I made to get a refund. I have seen countless shows at this venue, dating back to the days when it was Stella Blue, but I won't be returning. All they had to do was refund a ticket because they dropped the ball in the first place. And this whole incident has gotten so under my skin that I've decided to keep a running tab of how much of my business they'll be losing as a result of such poor practices. I'll update this review as needed. 5/9/25 Nth Power Ticket $26 Drinks $25 Total $51 Needless to say, I don't recommend this place. Third Room. The Orange Peel. Grey Eagle. Highland. Sierra Nevada. Plenty of other great options to see shows around town.

We were here at the Asheville Music Hall this weekend to see the Ain't Sister's play...wonderful show!

Great Venue! The staff are super friendly. Drinks were nice and cold. Everyone in attendance seemed to be having a great time. Can't wait to visit again! Loved watching The Old Futures in person. They are an awesome band. Sound was perfect. Can't wait to visit again!

Google
Haven't tried their food yet, but everyone seemed pretty cool the one time I went for their Wednesday night open mic comedy. I will say though, I do NOT recommend opening a tab there and just pay as you go, unless you don't mind $20 being held for at least 24 hours

Yelp
Came for the Thumpasaurus show with opening band Sexbruise!? and was surprised to find such an intimate venue. I was about to get up close and personal! The smoking area was out front, and you could have your drink as long as you stayed on the club side of the tables. Semantics. The sound quality was awesome, the music piped to the patio made people want to come in. The stage was smaller than The Music Farm but about the same as Rockafellas, if you feel me. Nice bar, great crew, space for merch booths in the back. This is a quality entertainment venue small enough to fly under the radar. Thumpasaurus recorded us for their upcoming live album, and they debuted their new song 1 hour and 26 minutes early. Immaculate ladies' room. Affordable drinks in bottles and cans as well as draft beer and cocktails. I prefer a can so I can keep my hand over the opening.

Yelp
Saw Son Little here and it was one of the best shows I've been to. The venue is quaint and intimate and allows you to get right up next to the stage. Perfect for vibing to more low key artists and having a relaxing concert experience. The acoustics and lighting were great as well.

Yelp
I went to the Asheville Music Hall for a memorial celebration of Life for Steve G. A drummer who played there over 200 times. Sending so much love to all the bands playing here and to the owners who opened it up for Steve's memorial. They had people coming in from all over the country who liked Steve. He was an old friend of ours. The Asheville music hall is a large place for dancing and standing room. There is a nice bar with very reasonable prices. There is some food available, but is very limited. Seating is also limited, it's mostly a standing room place for dancing or just standing around.

Yelp
After reading the reviews, I think that there are a number of people that are eligible for a class action lawsuit. You can't advertise a free event and then turn people away because they don't have cash to give a donation. A donation is a voluntary act and is not required. If you're going to charge a door fee then you should advertise that you are doing so. Someone needs to report them to the better business bureau.

Yelp
I have literally been here like a million gazillion times but have NOT taken many photos because my visits are always when I am having too much fun dancing with friends! I remember seeing Mark Farina here one night with a date, that was a memorable time that I will always treasure ;) and the song "Dream Machine" always takes me back to that weekend. I definitely crept in here one night on NYE, albeit briefly, but I failed to take any mementos with me other than a random photo of like a kitchen sink or something? Lol, a lot of champagne toasts were had that night as expected! We used to go to Funk Jam here a lot on Tuesdays and Bluegrass Brunch on Sundays, nothing like enjoying a bloody mary while listening to live banjos with pals on a relaxing Sunday. I am not sure if they still do that, but the food here is always well worth a stop in to AMH. I'll never forget my first visit here, when I wore red booties (pictured) to a Tuesday night Funk Jam with friends and danced allllll night in them! Have y'all ever tried dancing to funk music in high-heels for like 5 hours straight? Because DON'T!

Kathleen F.

Yelp
If I could give them negative stars I would! They Advertise free music but you get there and the door man checks id, says sign in and give a donation. I sign in but neglect the donation - due to no cash. He wouldn't let me and my boyfriend in because we didn't donate. As a teacher I explained donation means voluntary. He continued to refuse to let me in. He stated I wouldn't tip his bartenders if I wasn't willing to pay to go in... false sir! My boyfriend and I have been in the food service industry and we always tip well. So ... don't go here.. ever.

Yelp
Karaoke at best. The band had to watch the lyrics on a screen to get by. Has potential but the booking person needs to do better.

Yelp
So I've been living in Asheville since 2009. I've often heard about the funk jam that is held at the Asheville Music Hall on Tuesday nights. Tell me, what do you think of when you hear the word Funk Jam? White dudes with dreds, probably a jazz flute, and maybe someone slapping a bass, right? Yeah. Me too. Essentially there's nothing about the phrase that piqued my interest, or made me want to know more. A week or so ago I was entertaining friends from out of town on a Tuesday, and I bumped into a fellow DJ on the street that told me he was performing in the Funk Jam that evening. I was confused. I have the utmost respect for this fellow DJ, and I couldn't imagine him sharing the stage with an aging funk flautist. Sensing my confusion he jibed me... "You've never been to the Funk Jam, have you?" I had to be honest and say I hadn't, and that until this point I really didn't care to. He invited my friends and I to accompany him through the downstairs One Stop bar upstairs to the Asheville music hall... where I found a crowd of 150+ people dancing like it was a Saturday night and beer was free. The beer wasn't free, and it was a Tuesday evening at 11:30 pm. But wow, the energy and excitement was unreal. First off, I love to see people dancing, especially in large masses... but the music was actually GOOD. There was a trio banging out a groove heavy..... jam... Maybe I just hate the word jam? Maybe I should use the word improvisation? Maybe I should just get over it. Regardless, the music was so much better than I was expecting. Once the trio's set had concluded the Tuesday Night regulars mounted the stage, which included some of the best talent in Asheville. I could name names, but unless you're familiar with their respective bands that wouldn't mean much. If you're looking for something to do, or need to celebrate the approach of Wednesday, you owe it to yourself to check out The Asheville Music Hall and the Tuesday Night Funk Jam, even if the words Funk and Jam make you shudder a little bit.

Yelp
How have I not written a review of AMH yet? This is a great venue that I have been coming to and dancing at for many years. The space itself is nothing to write home about-a big open box space with high ceilings and a bar along the side. BUT what makes this space so special is that they get really great music acts here. I've spent some of my favorite times in Asheville here listening to amazing music and dancing my face off. Good vibes and good people.

Tebbe D.

Yelp
Doors open at 9, OSA Ray the DJ goes on at 10 and it was horrible the only reason we waited for our band at midnight was to hear the band at midnight. If we had known it was midnight we would have shown up at 11:59.99. Liquor was the only reason for this 3 hour torture. And I don't drink. NEVER TO RETURN thank you

Candice R.

Yelp
My friends and I were going to a FREE dance party there last night and when we got to the door the guy said we had to put in a cash donation.I didn't have cash so my friends put in extra cash for me and when I signed in (right behind them) he put the bucket in my face and I said my friends in front of me paid for me and he reached I the bucket pulls out money and said no they didn't. I said ok do you guy have an ATM that I can use and he said you can walk to an atm and come back. Awful experience, the event said free and then the door guy was a jerk to me because I didn't have cash...for a free event. That door guy needs to find a new line of work. He shouldn't be the first thing you experience when you're wanting to check out a place/event. I won't be coming back or supporting Asheville music hall.

Yelp
One of my favorite music venues in Asheville for over 8 years now. A variety of great music, playing almost every night of the week. Great local and touring acts coming through. Tuesday Night Funk Jam is a weekly staple.

Kenny R.

Yelp
Cool spot with a diverse selection of music depending on the night. Its loud, can be hot, and you can only buy one drink at a time. Other than that its a wonderful place to hang out and see a show. With a variety of music coming through, do some research before you just show up. I think the same people own the One Stop downstairs. Worth checking out as well.

Yelp
I make the trip up from Charlotte once a year to catch The Goodies annual reunion show just around Christmas time at the Asheville Music Hall. Located on Patton Ave in the downtown area, it's convenient to just about everything. This place is nothing fancy, just a great little music hall to catch some good local bands. No food, just drinks are offered. A few couches in the back to sit and some stools on the sides but for the most part you are standing for the shows. This place is exactly what you would expect in Asheville.

Lisa P.

Yelp
In town visiting relatives and came here to see a Radiohead cover band, Off With Your Radiohead. The band was very good, but the real reason I'm writing this is to compliment the sound guy on the mix - usually at a show in a small venue like this, at least one element of the music is off. The backing vocals or rhythm guitar will be too quiet or the lead guitar overwhelms everything, or the overall volume is just insanely loud. This was spot on, and it really helped me enjoy hearing OK Computer live to hear every piece clearly and not deafeningly. Not an easy thing on an album with so many moving pieces. Thanks!

Grant W.

Yelp
Terrible venue and horrible staff. They are all unaware and rude. I have never seen a worse event staff. I've been to about every venue in Asheville and this is by far the worst one.

Al L.

Yelp
Nothing too fancy here. Stopped in for a few drinks and a couple of songs. Shows are free but there is a voluntary donation. Good place to stop in if u want to listen to some live music for a time. I wouldn't stay here all night though.

Douglas B.

Yelp
We got charges $18 to enter to listen to music our friend walked in 5 minutes later and was charged $10. We went to speak to manager and her comment was do not raise your voice Band was playing and the music was loud. Maybe the worst manager I have seen. If u go wait until 11 pm to enter.

Suzannah D.

Yelp
We were so excited about going to see Too Many Zooz at Asheville Music Hall on January 12th. HOWEVER-we, along with many in the audience, were shocked to hear that they didn't go on until midnite and we had to endure Oso Rey, a local dj for TWO hours. Way, way too loud, I have never seen such a bored audience. Too Many Zooz were great, but we were too tired and overloaded to stay until 2pm. Asheville Music Hall advertised that the doors opened at 9pm, so we never anticipated that an opening act would start so late and go so long. As a result- many drunk people. Very limited seats and the available seats were rickety stools. We will not be back

Joshua N.

Yelp
Not a bad vibe, but some of the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I recommend you save your money for a bar that actually cares about the patrons.

Andy L.

Yelp
Asheville Music Hall in in a great place downtown, and is a good alternative to see bands with a little more local flavor, than the larger venues. It's come a long way since it used to be known as Stella Blue too with new decor and stage lighting. They have a nice big bar with plenty of draft beers and liquor with reasonable prices. Seating is rather sparse, so come ready to stand or dance or jump (who sits for a rock show anyway?). The sound system is good too, and the shows I've seen have been clear and not overly distorted or punishingly loud.

Elyse S.

Yelp
My husband and I had a very disappointing experience here last night. We were visiting Asheville from Atlanta and wanted to find some live music. We saw the poster for Larry Keel Experience on Saturday night, with 8 p.m. listed on the poster. We found out that 8 p.m.was the time when the doors opened and the show was to start at 9:00. Ok, but what was not advertised, was that there were two opening acts; the second (Sufi Brothers, terrible) were still playing at 10:30 p.m. With no end in sight, we left without seeing the band we payed $40 to see. Because we got there so early we were able to snag two of the maybe 10 chairs in the venue. Everyone else had to stand. I will never return.

Emily J.

Yelp
In town visiting and bought tickets for a show...really excited to go see these artists. Arrive at the venue and the bouncers would not let me in stating that my ID was fake and very photoshopped. I showed him several credit cards with my name on it. Even had my boyfriend show his ID that was similar to mine and they still denied me. I involved the police to scan my ID and prove it was real because I was really trying to see the show as I had come all the way from half way across the country. Bouncers proceeded to tell me to "get the f*** out and there's the door." Safe to say I don't plan on giving Asheville Music Hall a cent in the future. If you're from out of town: make sure you have your passport, social security card, license, ID, school IDs, and any other possible form of identification humanly possible. I don't think I will get over this any time soon because it's pretty embarrassing to get denied when you are well over 21.

Yelp
Went there for DJ kipper's dance party and it was incredible!!!! The music was soooooo awesome. The bartenders were very friendly and fast. The space is huge so you don't feel terribly hot or claustrophobic. I really hope they continue to do the dance party because Asheville needs one!!! Thanks for the fun time !

Ashton B.

Yelp
Prime location, excellent talent booking, and attentive service make AMH my go-to in Asheville!

Nicole E.

Yelp
Great venue but awful staff. I don't understand how it's so hard to scan a ticket and give you a wristband. I've never seen a more disorganized venue, no wonder people brag about sneaking in. All in all if you like the band playing I recommend but if not don't waste your time between bartenders that make you feel rushed and 40 yr old men that can't read your birthdate on your id and then act like it's your fault.
