The 5 Best Hostels in Dublin (Updated 2025)

"Located right beside Trinity College, this is one of the most central hostels in town (ideal for crashing after a wild night out) and it runs a daily free walking tour. There's a fully equipped kitchen for cooking your own food and a simple but filling breakfast offered each morning (not included). The dorms are clean and spacious but the beds are basic — no curtains and thin mattresses — making it a no-frills, budget-friendly choice where you really can't beat the location if you plan on partying in Temple Bar." - Matthew Kepnes

Google
Brilliant place, right near the bus stop arriving from the airport, and desk staff super helpful. Free T/coffee/hot chocolate/milk and free condiments in the very well equipped and very clean kitchen area. Fridges well organized and a useful drawer of food stuffs left for others.. definitely no need to buy porridge oats lol. Mahon's bar nearby great too, thanks for the tip! 24 hour access. Will definitely come back here.

We spent two nights in a double en-suite room. It was clean and in good shape. Even thought it’s right on a major street it wasn’t too noisy at night. We were amazed how clean and well organized the kitchen was. The people at the reception were friendly and helpful. The express bus to the airport was just a 10 minute walk away. Would definitely stay again.

Good value for money. If you plan to stay few days and be close to the city center this is a good option. Overall place is well maintained, friendly personnel and I was lucky of having nice guest roomates. Only observation is that bathroom is small/crowded.

Google
Centrally located, easy in and out with 24/7 desk coverage. I stayed in the 6-bed female dorm with an ensuite toilet/shower. It was decent for a hostel though seems like they might not have AC as the windows were just open the whole time - temps were fine though. Second floor, no elevator. This was not an accessible location. Kitchen on the first floor, which I did not use. Great value for proximity to the evening bar scene. Sheets provided but not towels (maybe available for hire? But I brought my own). No toiletries provided. Shower water pressure was good and hot water was hot.

I had a great stay at the Ashfield Hostel. The price is absolutely reasonable for a comfortable bed in a sensible sized dormroom with an en suite bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped with two high-tech induction stoves, fridge, sink and kept very clean by staff and guests. The best thing about this hostel is definitely the location: in the center of Dublin city with a bus stop in front to go to and from the airport. Trinity College and Temple Bar are right next door and still it is comfortably quiet during the night.

First of all, it's clean and safe. The staff is friendly and problem-solving. Guests are treated with respect. Room selection is logical and wise. Common areas are well-planned and clean in this historic building. Guests abide by the rules. If you're visiting Dublin for the first time, you can walk to the center and experience both the nightlife and historical sites, and take city tours. It's not the buildings that make a place beautiful or ugly, but the people. The staff here have made it a beautiful place. There's a friendly gentleman at the front desk who plays guitar and adds a touch of spice to the atmosphere. LA

Avoid! They have no communication or people skills. I messaged simply asking if the room could accommodate 3 people instead of 2. And the response was full of attitude and aggression. A friendly response with patience and a willingness to problem-solve and adapt would have been much better. A reply of ‘this is not possible or suggest to cancel and rebook would have been perfect’ So now I’m barred for suggesting them to re-consider their future response to customers.

Rooms are very unclean and full of strange old men making strange comments. Location is great but not worth the unsafe feeling i got from staying there. Would definitely not recommend nor would i stay here again.

Yelp
I have stayed at Ashfield multiple times and I love it. The location is perfect! Temple Bar is across the street with a little walking distance and Trinity College is also within a 2 minute walking distance. The staff are always super friendly. Rooms are ok, clean but if you're looking for luxury, this is not where you'll find it. If you're like me, low maintenance, this will do. Freeeeee breakfast with your stay. And it's damn good. Anyhow, come to Dublin! Have a pint and think of me.

Yelp
At the very least you would expect to have water and power at your hotel when you pay $175 USD for a night.. i just stayed here last night and the power went out and we got home from a pub at 11 pm and couldn't take a shower or brush our teeth or have Wi-Fi to check in for our flight and we left the next day for Scotland. It was exactly the way i would not want to spend the day before traveling. Those are bare minimum comforts and they were out for hours and I wasnt about to stay up until 2 am to shower so we went to bed and tried to wake up even earlier for our early morning flight the next day. At least the water was working but our shower was freezing. I am absolutely shook that a place like this can charge that much money for a night that disastrous.

Yelp
This hostel is honestly terrible. Tiny, unclean rooms. Bathroom unclean. They gave me sheets with a massive blood stain on it. They also put a random girl in our room one night and gave her my friend's bed. I would not recommend and will not be staying here again.

Yelp
Ashfield was great. I (single backpacker) showed up without a reservation and they had space, they checked me in and got me into a room that afternoon. They asked how long I'd been in Dublin, which was about 10 mins. So they got a map, showed me places to go and places to avoid. Gave me suggestions on where to eat and what to see. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The rooms were great, they have lockable cages under the beds for your items and lockers in the lobby. They have a luggage room that is locked, which is where I kept my stuff until my room was ready. The bathroom was perfect, the shower was hot and stayed hot. The view was perfect, looking out over the street and trinity college. The location was unbeatable too. I walked all over the city, it's located in the college area, within walking distance to a great night life, restaurants (traditional and non traditional Irish food), tourist attractions, the river and the shopping district. Seriously, I haven't stayed in such a great hostel in years. HIGHLY recommend this place to all travelers!

Yelp
My friend and I stayed here for three nights in May and had a lovely time. We booked two beds in a four-bed female room but had it to ourselves the whole time! Some parts of the hostel look a bit run down, flaking paint and the like, but it was clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful and, when the printer wouldn't work, allowed me to print all my trip vouchers (quite a few pages) in the office for free. Also the showers were lovely, good water quality, excellent water pressure, you can turn the flow on and off without adjusting the temp, and the temp did not waver throughout the shower. It was such a lovely thing to come back to in the evening. Cons: One major complaint is that the window looked out on a busy street and the curtains, while thick, really could not block out either the noise or the lights, which my friend found disruptive to her sleep. Also took a star off because of the computers/printers/wireless not working properly and because they use actual keys, not key cards, which I find less secure. Also the toilet, sink, and shower were in the same room, which in a shared hostel room can be inconvenient and I usually see them separately, which I prefer. There are also no lockers in the room or readings lights in the bed, and we had only one electrical outlet to use for presumably four people.

Yelp
I would stay here again if I went back to Dublin :) It's a hostel, so as long as you're not expecting the nicest, cleanest hotel, you will be satisfied. As long as you're not planning on spending most of your time in Dublin in your hostel room (who would?!), the Ashfield House should please you. The people who work here are so friendly and helpful, and they were very accommodating and flexible with the breakfast when we had to leave for the airport very early. It's within walking distance of so many great Dublin sights :)

Yelp
Overall: 4S Room: 3.5S Location: 4S Service: 4S This place is a good location as it's walking distance. if you are a staying at hostel, this hostel, then you are a backpacker...or some weird, then walking is a must. The location of this place is great for doing walking tours on your own. The staff that work here are pretty friendly and helpful. It's not the prettiest or the cleanest but it gets the job done. They do offer tours so you can opt to go with them or not. I like to do things on my own except pub crawls. Can't go wrong.

Yelp
Well located, excellent tarifs and a great staff. Confortable and clean. Totally recommended! =)

Yelp
The only reason for chose this location could be the position, realy near to Dublin centre; But if you want sleep in a quiet room, stay away (the room overlooked on a busy and noisy street), if you want a merely clean stead, stay away (all ambiences are incredibly dirty!), even the sheets was really greasy, absolutely abhorrent (I'll try to post some photos of sheet, so you can see with your eyes); This "hostel" (but hostel is a compliment, the correct definition can be "gargabe with beds") is severely unsavory; Basically my suggest is: find an other place to stay and keep away the people that you care!

Yelp
Good location. Bathrooms are in the room. You have to pay $1 for the towels. You have to put your own sheets on the bed as well and strip your own bed before leaving. The bathroom was not clean, but I'm sure it's hard for house keeping to clean for new guests while at least 3 other people are staying in the dorms. Decent place for the price though. Would stay again.
