Ashizuri Kokusai Hotel

Take the two-day sightseeing trip to this lovely old Japanese-style hot spring hotel. The dinner and breakfast are both very tasty and there is plenty of food. We really enjoyed it, but we were too full to eat any more! The room was fantastic. It had a great view and was big enough for two people to sleep comfortably, just like it looked in the pictures. On the bus tour, we get a bag of souvenirs and a 1,000 yen coupon for shopping at their shop. The hot spring area was well looked after and clean. It had everything you could need. There is a small outdoor hot spring area with a nice view. When I was there, it was quite empty, so I could enjoy it all by myself. And the staffs are all very friendly and helpful.

As for the decor and layout, I can only describe it as an old hotel, but the employees here are professional and very friendly. The hot spring baths offer a splendid view, which includes the pacific ocean view and lots of shining stars.

This hotel is just one km from the Cape Ashizuri. There were parking spots right in front of the hotel but were quite limited. The setting in the hotel was traditional Japanese but has the feel that it has not been updated. Check-in was easy and we had some help to move the luggage to the check-in area. The room was spacious with two beds in an area where the futon bed will be made in the evening. The room emphasize the point that is is dated. Many of the features were not modern especially the shower where the tap is low and a stool was given for you to bathe sitting down in the traditional manner. The shower door was in fact semi-transparent and if you are standing up , it can be seen from the outside.|The dinner and breakfast were good!|All in all, it was a good stay except for its dated feel.

We stayed in a spacious traditional Japanese room with an ocean view. Breakfast and dinner were included. Friendly staff, extremely accommodating. When we arrived for dinner, the staff had already set out a set Japanese meal for us that was beautiful, but had meat and fish included. When we told them that we were vegans they apologized, cleared everything, asked us to wait 10 minutes, then replaced our meals with vegan ones. Wow! Highly recommended.

We went to Ashizuri from Matsuyama, it took long journey on train + bus…………..||||We left Matsuyama at 8:08 and arrived the hotel at 15:21……………we were hungry and nothing could be eaten near hotel………….actually, we couldn’t find restaurant at outside……………..Finally, we bought cup noodles as our afternoon tea.||||Ashizuri Kokusai Hotel is the most popular hotel in Ashizuri. We got off the bus at a small Tourist Information Office (足摺岬セソター), then crossed the road and the hotel was at the right side. We could see the ocean from the hotel but today weather (23 Mar 2017) was not good……….raining……….so, we couldn’t see sunset and star-watching………….extremely disappointed. The scenery of sunset and star-watching was the selling point for staying in Ashizuri.||||Hotel provides 2 free activities : 1 is star-watching (limited to 20 persons), 1 is sight-seeing of Hakusan Mouths (白山洞門). For star-watching, this activity was arranged depends on the weather………..On my stay, this activity was cancelled because of unstable weather. For Hakusan Mouths, it was arranged at 6:20am (back to the hotel at 7:00am) and guided by a hotel staff. All activities could be reserved when check-in.||||Hotel staff is nice and some can speak little English. Room was clean and spacious. My room was located at 2/F and could see the ocean as well.||||For onsen, there was 1 medium size pool + 1 small outdoor pool. The onsen is smaller than my expectation. If you would like to have a fantastic onsen in Shikoku, I will suggest to go Iya (Tokushima). The onsen area was so big and provided several pools for different effect.||||For dinner, there were many choices for selection when making hotel reservation. We chose 2 kinds from the list : 1 was seasonal set and 1 was BBQ set (I can’t remember the exact name for dishes). Wow!!!!!!! The dish is beautiful, rich and very delicious. Yummy, yummy~~~||||At night (around 11pm), my friend told me she could see star in the room. Then, we ran out the hotel and looked at the sky………………wow……………so beautiful……………lot of stars were shining………………really amazing!!!!!||||For breakfast, the set was rich and delicious as dinner too~~||||If you like to have a leisure stay with delicious meals, I am highly recommended this hotel.

This large well-run tourist hotel in the small town at the tip of Cape Ashizuri has lovely views of the sea from the reception area and rooms. We were given a very spacious Japanese-style room with a large attached bathroom/separate toilet/washbasin area. Dinner and breakfast were included and featured a wide variety of local seafood and other dishes, which were beautifully presented and tasted very good. Meals are served in small private rooms in the hotel's dining area.||The hotel has good shared hot spring baths with outdoor pools and sea views.||The service was excellent and the staff were very pleasant. Free parking was available.

The Japanese-style room with private bathroom was clean and comfortable. Room size was average. Basic decor. Nice ocean view. Tried both indoor and open-air onsens - good soak though a bit crowded. Dinner and breakfast were fine though not spectacular.

This is one of the better-known hotels on cape Ashizuri, popular with both domestic and international travelers. It has been around for quite some years, so the building and the facilities show signs of age, but there are a few points compensating for that, such as hot spring bath with views. I stopped here on the 6th night of my Shikoku pilgrimage road trip.||||Arriving after dark by Ashizuri Skyline road, I was a little worried about finding the place, but it was impossible to miss. The staff welcomed me and took me to my room – at the very far end of the long corridor, and the gentleman who was showing me the way actually apologized for that. I thought it was funny – and very Japanese, in a good way. I didn’t mind being at the far end of the corridor, at some distance from the tour group guests, and morning revealed another advantage of this location: an excellent unrestricted view over the harbor and the Pacific ocean. But upon my arrival everything outside the window was, of course, pitch black (cape Ashizuri is popular for stargazing, by the way).||||I didn’t have dinner included with my stay, so the futon mattress was already spread on tatami (usually they spread it for you while you’re having your meals). I headed to the bath for quick soak and then settled in for the night.||||I woke up very early next morning with hopes of seeing the sunrise from the window, but it turned out that the hotel’s location wasn’t ideal for that particular purpose. The angle was wrong, the rising sun was way to the side and hidden by a nearby mountain. A little disappointed (and reminiscing of once-in-a-lifetime sunrise I saw on Ashizuri some 10 years ago), I headed to the bath again and there was rewarded with views, perfect even without the rising sun – and complete solitude. Waking up early has its advantages, no matter what.||||Then it was time for breakfast – good and plentiful, but nothing particularly stood out, except that it was here that I found out how dried tuna fish turns into katsuobushi flakes (something I have never even thought of before). Fish comes as a dry, very hard stick, and you have to use a tool similar to jack plane where the blade is on the upper side – you hold it still with one hand and slide the fish stick over it with the other. So, breakfast was educational.||||Overall I had a pleasant stay there. Morning bath and tuna slicing was something to be remembered.
