On the Grid : Asian Noodle House

"The decor is nothing special, but the food is delicious. Leaning towards Thai, they offer a host of Asian cuisines, but not a fusion - let's get that straight. Fantastic for lunch or dinner, the service is fast and the food is reliably good. The Thai iced coffee? You'll be buzzing all afternoon." - St. John Design Group

Honestly, very disappointed. I got teriyaki chicken and got something that resembled teriyaki chicken soup. For someone who doesn't like soup and doesn't love saucy things, I was pretty turned off. The quality of the chicken was gyro like, and the rice was sticky but off-putting. The only reason I was able to stomach this was because I was extremely hungry. Should have gone with another place. With that said, they are pan-asian and this is the ONE dish I've tried. I had to drain the sauce into the dish cover. Perhaps it'd be to others liking, curious as to what others have thought of this specific take on teriyaki chicken and rice. Service was decent, guy was friendly, atmosphere looked small and nice when I picked up.

Google
Instantly became one of my favorite restaurants. Very very friendly people. The menu is large, and might take you awhile to figure out what you want. I highly recommend the following- Shumai, Vegetable paejeon pancake, Beef Bulgogi bento box, and the Golden Roll sushi. The bento box was the best I’ve ever had, everything was delicious. The miso soup was so authentic. Don’t let the name or the looks of the outside dissuade you. Inside is small but there’s plenty of places to sit. We went on a Saturday and had no wait for a table of 3. I cannot wait to be back!

Google
Fantastic sushi and great prices on it. Also one of my favorite "Generals Chicken" around. They also have a few Asian beers that are all pretty good. Very friendly staff. The place is always packed, but they get you in-and-out fast and full. As a warning, tables are set up in a way that you are often sharing larger tables with others there. The inside is relatively small and always filled.

Delicious food served with a smile in a small cozy setting.

This Asian establishment provides an extensive menu featuring high-quality cuisine, exceptional service, and a refined ambiance in a prime location. The diverse menu caters to a wide range of preferences, ensuring a satisfying culinary experience. However, pricing may be considered higher than average.

Google
Hole in the wall but the food is truly 10/10. The kimchi chicken- amazing. The beef bulgogi bento box is SO MUCH AMAZING FOOD!! Wow wish we were staying in town long enough to eat here again.

The staff was very friendly and seated us right away. The menu has many different options. Do yourself a favor and try the golden roll if you like mango.

First walking into Asia Cuisine I noticed that it was small and cozy. The waitress was very kind and attentive to our party. I ordered C4 for my main entree and thought it was delicious. Also, the spicy rice cakes were a good appetizer to start out with. The food tasted authentic and I would for sure come back.

Yelp
Great food, fast service. Overall not the prettiest restaurant, but the food is fantastic.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our post hike dinner at this multi cultural Asian restaurant. The menu had some transitional Korean items but also some more fusion style items and overall a large menu. I appreciated the pictures of many of the actual items on the wall. We both enjoyed our entrees a lot. The Kung Pao wasn't very spicy but was mildly spicy and sweet. Service was friendly.

Yelp
I had the Sam Sun Jjam Bong and it was delicious! The broth has a seafood umami savoriness and has a slight kick (not too spicy for me tho)! The vegetables were fresh and cooked to the point where they still have a satisfying bite to them and the shrimp were also very well cooked! Most of the time I order this dish at other places, the seafood is overcooked but I thought the shrimp had great texture! As soon as we came in, our waitress greeted us and she gave us a table for 5 right away and she got us ice waters immediately. She was kind and had a warm smile :)

Yelp
I visited with friends, and I'll admit -- those neon lights? Total vibe. They set the tone for a night of good food and questionable decisions. I ordered the Dynamite and Spicy Salmon rolls. The Dynamite roll, priced at nearly $12, was not dynamite. If anything, it was a blast of disappointment. For a roll that costs double what the Spicy Salmon roll does, I expected more than just a sliver of fish on top and a few more grains of rice. Same portion size, double the price? That's not math I'm here for. Pass on that one. Speaking of the Spicy Salmon roll, now that one was solid. It delivered the goods for its price and met the sushi standard I was hoping for. Apparently my friend said that their eel roll's sauce was "a bit weird." Noted. If that's your thing, you do you, but I'll also pass on any eel sauce adventures.

Yelp
Asia cuisine, the love of my life, where do I begin. This is my favorite restaurant in Ithaca because it offers authentic food, reasonably prices, and wonderful portions. Every single time I've gone, I've never had bad service or bad food. The extensive menu offering pan-Asian cuisine has everything you can want: Korean noodles, sushi, fried rice, an array of stews etc. My honorable mentions include the vegetable pajun, yakisoba, and veggie jja jjan myan. Every dish is so flavorful and unique. Also they're super awesome about customizing the spice levels. Adding kimchi to the yakisoba will legit change your life. I'm fully convinced that God himself is in the back of the kitchen cooking it up. As Asia Cusine is an Ithaca favorite, it can get pretty busy, but that never detours the speed or quality of service. Incredibly friendly and efficient staff! Although small, the restaurant is super cute and cozy! If I can, I love to snag a seat by the windows. The atmosphere is great for a warm meal in the winter or sharing noodles either your friends. They sell a shirt that says "I hope I die before Asia Cusine goes out of business" and I couldn't agree more :)

Yelp
Great spot for really good Asian food. We went for lunch and I still can't stop talking about how amazing the food is. Service was great. Restaurant is simply decorated. Definitely put Asia Cuisine on your list to be if you're in the area

Yelp
After seeing the raving reviews, I was excited to try this restaurant, however, I was quite disappointed. I got chicken teriyaki, and it was bland and had a sweet sauce (that did not taste like teriyaki sauce!) which did not taste good in my opinion. In fact, all of the food had this sweetness to it that was quite reminiscent of cinnamon (??). Honestly, the only thing I liked was their tea. The service itself was adequate, we did not come at a busy time, so I didn't feel any negative sentiments there. The ambiance itself is cozy, but not worth the food nor the price of the food. Needless to say, I will not be coming back.

Yelp
Food is so good, my friends and I very much enjoyed it! The service was great and my food came very fast. The space was also very nice and clean and the staff was very friendly. Would 100% recommend.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! Sushi & Korean with some twists on Chinese dishes. Loved the Unagi Don, Avocado Salad, Beef Bulgogi & Bibim Bop. Friendly Service and really busy, but could step-up the table service (water refills, enough utensils for diners, etc). 4.5 Stars

Yelp
I visited this place during my vacation to Watkins Glen and let me tell you, this is some of the BEST Korean food I have ever had. I had the Kimchi Chicken Bokum; it was PACKED with flavor and the portion was huge.... just the right amount of spice!!! My boyfriend had the Jjam Bong which is basically like a seafood soup. He loved it. It wasn't spicy, but there was a lot of flavor and the seafood was fresh. We only got one sushi roll, but they have so many to choose from. If you're big on sushi this is the place for you. The service was very quick and attentive. I think the only issue with this place is that it is pretty small inside, only about 6-7 tables. So if you come during a peek time expect a wait. We went around 7pm on a Sunday and did not have a wait, but by the time we left there were 2 groups in line.

Yelp
OMG this is our new favorite Asian restaurant! We came here after going to Cornell Botanical Gardens, I ordered the avocado salad, eel and avocado roll, and fried sweet potato roll because they were so cheap compared to what I am used to. Everything was excellent. So we ordered their version of General's Chicken which is light years above and beyond any that I have had in the past (I don't even like chicken that much) the sauce is this amazing spicy fruity can't get enough and the chicken great with a light and crispy breading. We ended up Ithaca for hiking a few days later and got the yakisobi which is so smokey and yum. Plus hand made noodles. Their brown rice is also killer. I think they must not have any bad dishes and I can't wait to find another excuse to come here.

Yelp
This is a small sushi joint with both a sushi and Korean menu. We watched a few locals come in for takeout and dine-in, and the server (owner?) recognized them all. It struck me as the locals' spot. The sushi menu is extensive! It was a bit different than what I'm used to on the west coast, but it was tasty. The pieces were cut half and thin as I'm used to, but there were more of them, and they were easier to eat. We noticed the place could use some updating and cleaning, but when you're cooking Korean food, oil just happens. Other than that, good value, nice staff, and great choices.

Yelp
Big windows make for nice lighting and great people-watching. Great food for good prices! Fast and very friendly service. We split the sushi special between two of us and liked it a lot and were very full. They also have good beers.
google avatar

Yelp
I love the food here. The only thing I don't like from this restaurant is that you cannot make reservations, and the place can be very crowded and sometimes if you want to it inside you need to wait a lot.

Yelp
This place lives up to its simple name but with a number of variety available. While not specializing in one cuisine, I found that to be a great quality because I'm personally someone who likes the variety. I'm impressed with how they balance it and manage a busy crowd. You know it's a good spot when there's people eagerly waiting outside in the cool fall weather waiting to get in here. The staff did a good job of getting people in within 15-30 min on a Friday night. Admittedly we even added a person to our party last minute and they were able to help us out and get us in. There's truly something for everyone. Between two super sushi lovers and a few non fish eaters, everyone got something they wanted. I was in a sushi mood and was happy I didn't need to break the bank for four rolls (yes this is how many I usually get). My husband got the jjangmyan special and was very satisfied with the green tea noodles consistency in particular. He even convinced the others at the table to order it. I was surprised at how big the special rolls were. The Aurora roll was huge and at a deal too. I really enjoyed the New York Roll which is simple having salmon and tuna but the nice add of apple brought it together. The Ithaca roll satisfied my craving to have one deep fried roll. Spicy tuna ultimately ended up delicious. I will mention we had a small misunderstanding regarding my allergy. Because the rolls I got didn't mention there was scallion on top, I was a little disappointed at first when some of the rolls came topped with scallion. I was able to pick it off (cross contamination isn't a problem for my allergy). But the staff took notice and immediately helped update the remaining rolls on the way to ensure no scallions. They even re made the spicy tuna roll to make sure there was no scallions (my husband happily ate the one with scallions that came out). Greatly appreciated their attention and action on the matter. We were only visiting Ithaca for the weekend for a wedding but was very glad and we enjoyed the place. Until next time!

Yelp
Great service! My server was really nice and the food was amazing. I highly recommend general tso chicken

Yelp
One of my most fave restaurants in Ithaca and my favourite place to eat in the Ithaca Commons. I never know what I want to order from here, I only know I will never be disappointed and I've tried a LOT of their dishes. I've taken dates here, my mom, my friends, myself, it's one of my go-tos and my fave place to sit is one of the two spots right next to the window. The service is also excellent.

Yelp
Affordable spot for decent Chinese/Korean/Japanese food in Ithaca. I got the Jop Chae Bop with beef. It was very standard for a japchae dish in terms of ingredients and quality, so not much to say about that. It also came with a healthy serving of rice on the side. The prices at Asia Cuisine are very reasonable, as this dish was only $12. Our waitress was pretty friendly and the service speed was quick. The restaurant is a bit quiet on the inside, so you could say it is peaceful, but also a bit lacking in terms of having a good atmosphere/environment. There is a decent amount of available seating inside the restaurant. Overall, Asia Cuisine is a very standard spot for East Asian cuisines. It's good but not much better than average, so I would give it 3.5 stars if I could, although I will bump it up to a 4 for the affordable prices.
google avatar

Yelp
The best goddamn sesame chicken I've ever had. Always packed but in a cute lively way. Servers are quick and will take care of you.

Emma Q.

Yelp
Staff and food are both excellent!! Great East Asian food in Ithaca and prices are very reasonable

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in ithaca. Best asian food. BEST service. I have been going there for years and I have never had a bad experience. Small but mighty.

Yelp
The food is fantastic. And the service was good. The ambiance is friendly and comfortable. I loved the salmon lunchbox and would recommend it to anyone.

Daniel M.

Yelp
This restaurant serves both Japanese and Korean food, but my sense is that it is run by Koreans, and Korean food is what we wanted. The server seemed pleased that we ordered Korean dishes and wanted them very spicy. We got our wish, and we enjoyed the food greatly. The service was prompt and attentive. If we are ever in Ithaca again, we will definitely go back to this establishment.
google avatar

Olivia F.

Yelp
The General Gao Tofu has been scrumptious both times I've ordered it - deliciously-fried tofu in a fiery, red sauce. Even my non-vegetarian friends were vying to get bites of my food. Tends to get busy during evenings on the weekend, and it can be hard to get seated, but I found the servers to be pleasant. It is a very no-frills establishment with minimal decor, but my girlfriend and I still found it cozy.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
I love both the service and the food at this place. I'm a pescatarian and always have so many great options to choose from. I'm especially fond of any of their garlic sauce dishes. They have a lot of vegan options as well for those who have that preference. Even their sushi is excellent. (Love the shrimp tempura roll!).

Laura F.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant in town. Amazing food and service! The staff is so nice and helpful. It's busy and crowded - a sure sign of the high quality and amazing flavors. You just can't go wrong with anything. Sushi, jijgae, udon, bento, japchae- all are delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
The worst Korean food that I have ever had. No banchan (side dishes) to start. Ordered Daegu Mae Un Tang, Rajoki, and Jjam Pong. Daegu Mae Un Tang was not even spicy as described, barely had any meat, and was very tasteless. Rajoki had some uncooked chicken and was very soggy. Jjam Pong barely had any seafood and used soba noodle. I have never seen these kind of Korean food, and they were disgusting. A chef who is trying to imitate Korean food very poorly. Do yourself a favor and don't try these Korean food. The server was very kind, though.

Yelp
During our Ithaca trip we were out late hiking, and were so hungry that we decided to bring some takeout back to the hotel rather that go out to a sit down dinner and Asia cuisine worked out perfectly for our needs. In early October of the pandemic they were only doing take out and delivery anyways so they were the perfect option to satisfy out sushi craving. We ordered 3 rolls to share a Dragon Roll, Rainbow Roll and a Shirmp Tempura. Reasonably priced and very fresh all 3 were delicious. True life it was so good that we sat in the car on the side of the road and devoured all 3 of them in a few minutes. I have no picture because they were just so good I didn't even think about taking photos. Definitely a place we will be returning when we visit Ithaca again. If you are in the area and are a sushi fan this is a must stop. If you are in the area and are not a sushi fan, stop here, you will most surely become one!
google avatar

Mielabelle S.

Yelp
Asia Cuisine is still fresh and great-tasting before and during the pandemic. In fact, I think the food quality/quantity has actually gotten better now that they don't have dine-in customers to worry about. (Although I do wish they would resume offering kimchi, pickled daikon, fish cake and other side dishes with their Korean plates.) They've been a family favorite for over 10 years. Glad to support this local gem.

Yelp
This place looks better on the inside than it does outside. Just looks like a normal cheap takeout place but on the inside it's very compact and has wooden walls. I came on a Sunday night and it was packed to the brim. There was a long line of people that crowd in the front of the store and nowhere to sit (despite there being a few empty, uncleaned tables). I can empathize with the staff as they were obviously very busy, but it would make more sense to have another person on staff to make things more efficient. The menu has a plethora of options to choose from, and it's more authentic Chinese/Korean. I would love to try all of them eventually. I ordered the black been noodles (wheat noodles, black bean sauce with onions zucchini and beef). And it was good but not great. My friend got a couple of things I don't remember the name of and shared it with me and it was really good so I know they make really good food. Unfortunately, the short staff made it difficult to enjoy this experience because it took forever to 1. Get our order out 2. Refill our water (which is critical during these salty meals that prune you to a raisin) and 3. Pay our bill and leave. My friends main dish tasted like fruity pebbles for whatever reason (it was not fruity pebbles). Idk if that's a good or bad thing since I don't know what the dish was but I felt like it was worth mentioning. I'd suggest hiring an extra person or have more people on staff during predictable high times.
google avatar

Valerie F.

Yelp
This is the best asian spot in Ithaca, hands down. I am usually wary of fusion places because they usually do some things well but lack in other areas. This place proves me wrong. They do it all. They have excellent sushi. I literally think about it all the time. I have not found better in this area. Their Korean food is great and much better than the other Korean places in Ithaca. The people that work here are so kind and make an effort to get to know their customers, which is admirable because I know they are busy. I suggest jjajangmyeon, kohn poong ki, and any of their stews.
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
7 Value 9 Good prices great food Jampong is really good I really like their noodles. I don't think they're traditional jampong noodles but prefer this over the traditional ones. How

Yelp
Sushi on a student budget. I moved here about 1.5 years ago from Seattle, WA, so my sushi standards are abnormally high. I know Ithaca isn't known for their seafood, but after trying a few Japanese restaurants here, I found this gem near the Commons. As of now they are take-out only. But the sushi I ordered was definitely top tier for the finger lakes region! I would highly recommend the sweet potato roll! You get what you pay for. The sushi isn't 5 star quality, but it also isn't bad, like Sushi Osaka (not ordering from there ever again). I was able to get 3-4 rolls for under $40 and fully satisfied!

Grace L.

Yelp
Love this place! Great food and service. It's definitely my go-to place for Asian food in Ithaca.

Ruby R.

Yelp
Best restaurant in ithaca! Love it! So good! Sesame tofu slays. Great service too love it
google avatar

Yelp
I don't understand what is the buzz about this place. We were on Thursday night and the place was packed. We got takeout and it was a sad affair. The teriyaki chicken came out looking like chicken broccoli and tasted like a slightly sweet version of kungpao (sauce they use for chicken- and beef-broccoli, among other uses) sauce - so a weird mix of sweet with bitter aftertaste. The portion was decent, however. We also ordered an eel roll and it came out looking not sad, but positively tragic! The rolls were small, misshapen, and crushed together like the unbuckled occupants of a smart car after a run-in with a semi.

Yelp
Really liked this place. Came in twice during my two week visit. Would go back. Huge variety of numerous Asian cuisines, nice beer selection; good service.
google avatar

Yelp
After eating so much American cuisine during our vacation, it was time for something Asian, so what better than Asian Cuisine?! Run by friendly and attentive staff. Food was also decent, although not outstanding. But then we are Asians ourselves, so we are use to home cooking!
google avatar

Roseanne P.

Yelp
Stopped in here for dinner on a recent trip. Not much is open in Ithaca early in the week during the summer months, but we lucked out with this place. It didn't look like much from the outside, but it was cozy inside and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Lots of standard Chinese-American type dishes that were tasty. Many vegetarian options. Prices were reasonable. Everyone left happy and full.

Valeria G.

Yelp
I love this place! It's always packed but that is only because the food is so good! Great vibes and amazing fresh eats.
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
a cute little restaurant, I would say is reasonable price. came here for a late lunch, I'm on the keto diet and personally, it seems a bit hard for me to pick a meal that's keto friendly. I chose the sashimi salad and seaweed salad, however, people say be careful with restaurant with seaweed salad cause it might be high on sugar. So I just stick my sashimi salad. As for the other people that's with me, they ordered the garlic shrimp, eggplant with garlic sauce and etc, and according to them it's delicious. The guy who helped us was also nice and patient! Oh, their tea! I love their tea, you definitely can taste the corn! Definitely worth a try, you won't regret it!

Yelp
If you are looking for your typical American Chinese restaurant, this is not the place. If you are looking for authentic Chinese, this is not the place. If you are looking for some Asian dishes with a fusion swing to them and unique flavor, this is the place for you. I stopped here for lunch with my family while I was visiting Ithaca. Upon entering, there is nothing impressive about the interior, the place is about as clean as your average Chinese restaurant. We ordered a few different dishes, all chicken based, I was pleased that all of the chicken was not over cooked, and did not have fat. As a spicy food lover, I typically order the hottest thing on the menu, and this time was no different. I ordered the Rajokai and aside from the mildly spicy jalapeño peppers, the dish was not spicy to my pallet.

Megan S.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi I've ever had. Extremely affordable and so good! The service was incredibly speedy and personable. Our server was exceptionally kind and made sure we were taken care of! 100000/10

Angela R.

Yelp
Asia Cuisine isn't fancy, but it doesn't need to be. This restaurant might not be as flashy as some of the other options on restaurant row, but it is reliable, consistent, and affordable. They turn around tables quickly, so you're never waiting too long for a seat (though this means it's not the kind of place you'll be lingering for hours either.) The food is good and portions are generous. There's something special about this place, even though there's nothing super special about it. It's just good. Sometime's it really is as simple as that.

Karla M.

Yelp
This is always our first lunch when we come to Ithaca. The food is incredible and service is always excellent. We love the Korean offerings and have tried a few Chinese dishes as well. We've found them all to be fresh and super flavorful. Wish we had this restaurant close to our home, we'd be there daily!

Esther M.

Yelp
The food is amazing, and it's a great option for vegans/vegetarians. We ordered the sesame tofu, jap chae, and pageon, all vegan, and they were all hits! The service was great too, we were seated really quickly given how packed the place was.

Dion R.

Yelp
So good! Everything we had was absolutely delicious. We shared three Korean Style dishes. The flavors dance in your mouth and yet the sauces were light, not heavy. Everything was fresh. Staff were friendly and service was great. Next time I will have to try the sushi. Small corner restaurant that is easy to walk past, but don't.

Yelp
General Tao or Sesame chicken is what we meant to order but we ended up with Mapo Tofu and pork instead. We were peeved, it was our error, we wrote the number down wrong but.....surprisingly.....it was the best Mapo Tofu I've ever put in my mouth hole. When I've had it in the past the tofu was very soft and the pork was ground and it was way too soupy. This tofu was decently sized and the pork was sliced thinly. Garlic eggplant was ok, I prefer a slimy sauteed eggplant, like giant slugs. MMMMM garlic slug plants. This was a drier fry. Vegetable pancake was delicious, there were a variety of veggies in there. Tofu Bibimbap was a bag call on my part for take out. Part of the love of a good dish is the sear the rice gets in the hot hot bowl. This was missing in cardboard although the (I thought more that usual) variety of items were nicely arranged. I did not care for the sushi, the rolls were a little looser than I expected, one oddly smushed and some bites unevenly filled, also not too flavorful. Spicy tuna roll and Wasabi Tobiko roll were tried. Meager wasabi without a kick unfortunately.

Migo L.

Yelp
We went on waterfalls road trip, and found this amazing satisfying Asian food. I have been eating salad, fries, pizza and pasta for past few day. Their spicy hot noodles soup just warm my heart. Mmmmm.... so good!! My daughter has sever peanut allergy, so we have limited food choices. We ordered tofu bento box for her. She LOVE IT so much. Thank you again for saving our soul.
