This place is a little gem in the city. Very great bottomless brunch menu allowing you to choose 3 meals but sizes were really small. The menu has pancakes but they really do serve you one tiny pancake. We were pretty much still hungry after our meals. Aside that it's great for groups. It's a very relaxed vibe and you can still hear yourselves when you speak. Service was not bad especially considering that there were not too many hands on deck and meals came in at the right times. Will recommend but will add that it's a little too pricey for the quantities. I'll only visit if I have a discount to be honest.

Good breakfast with great selection. Unfortunately my pancakes were served to me burned and I had to request new ones, so I can’t give it a higher rating. That said, my dining companions enjoyed their meals. Good coffee.

I had quite high expectations because of my friend and it was fullfiled multiple times! The food - hot carrot "pancake", with seasoned hummus and green topping, something really incredible. I enjoyed the capuccino too, plus very lovely, helpful and kind staff, and warm, pleasant place. Thanks a lot!

Amazing crumpets! Amazing (seasonal marmalade and peach) jam. Amazing cortado. Amazing fries. Great burger (I say great because it was medium well when we wanted medium rare). But seriously, everything we had were SO good. I'm sure we'll come by any/every time we come back to London.

Google
Great food and coffee but their brunch means that prices for 3 small plates without drinks start at £17. Individual breakfast can only be purchased on the weekend! Absolut lovely staff.

Bottomless brunch, with (£38) or without (£28) alcohol. I did the non alcohol version since I'm trying to be good for January 😊 . Baked egg with merguez sausage, hash brown with chorizo. Salmon hash with quail egg, babette. Buttermilk pancake with poached caramel apple. Wheelchair access ♿: There is a step to get in and they do have a ramp, but it's super steep so you wouldn't be able to manage on your own. They do not have accessible toilets. Dishes were tasty but I was also starving. Not too bad of a deal, especially since there's 50% for the whole of January. I liked having a variety of small dishes as oppose to one big one too 👍

Epic breakfast, the fritters were dreamy and so well balanced! Crumpets were delicious, coffee was great, all was served in a beautiful way. Loved the decor and the fact that music was not loud and had some great vibes.

Simple, beautiful, effective. Toast with marmite and butter and cup of great coffee. Shove your matcha latte and avo salmon thing somewhere else. It’s not to say I don’t love that, but this place does with simplicity.

Yelp
I'll start this by saying: my views may be skewed because the name of this bar is AWESOME!!! Yeah, I know it's not named after me but rather a Beastie Boys song ... but I'll take what I can get! My first alcoholic drink when I first went to London was a Gin and Tonic. Guess what Ask for Janice has in their basement? ... a pop up Gin & Tonic bar. WHAT? Is this for real or am I in heaven? Also, I was here with all my colleagues and the ongoing joke across all our offices is if you don't have an answer: ask Janice. So, we all had a good laugh just about the name alone and how perfect it was. This was just meant to be. Amazing bar. Great staff. Awesome drinks. GO GO GO!!! And remember to "Ask for Janice"!

Yelp
Stopped by for a late lunch after the gym, so wanted something "healthy-ish". Avocado toast and a latte. I'm a cheapskate so £9 for toast is pricey, however it was a full meal and delicious. I think they try to locally source food, so we're supporting the little guys. Chill coffee shop vibe (reminded me of a place I like in Copenhagen), good music, nice art on the wall, friendly staff. The tables and chairs are metal and wood... Look great but a tad uncomfortable - maybe I'm being overly critical because I'd just spent 1.5 hours at the gym and wanted to lie down on a couch. 4 stars b/c the prices are a little high for me.

Yelp
Ask For Janice is part craft beer joint, part quality coffee spot, all bona fide hipster hangout. I laud its attempts to cover both the quality beer and coffee markets, which makes it unusual in London even if these niches seem a natural fit. It's one of the best attempts I've seen so far in London, even if it can't compete with the best specialist places for either. The interior and atmosphere is classic hipster. The rough brick walls are messily painted white, the tables and chairs a mix of styles and though the windows seem quite modern, the glass doors could easily have been transported from a 1970s-era pre-fab car showroom. The staff are young and friendly and the music indie (think Little Dragon, Broken Bells). Their beer is their strength, with a decent range from London breweries such as the Kernel, Redchurch brewery, Camden and and By the Horns. Not super exotic. but decent. Their coffee is espresso-based, apparently from a small supplier. Maybe, but preparation is a little slapdash - no foaming or heating of milk for instance - and the latte I had was rather ordinary. Prices seem to be the market ones for this area- £2.20 for a single espresso, £2.40 for a double, £2.70 for an Americano. They also serve food, are open late (apparently closing at midnight mid-week) and supposedly have wifi, though I couldn't connect to it. They were showing the World Cup football on a large projector screen, so quite possibly they'll be showing other events too. East London seems to be overrun with specialist cafes, so diversifying into craft beer is a good idea for a new business like Ask For Janice (and again, I reckon many of the customers are likely to be the same). I'd like to see them improve their coffee preparation (and expand into filter coffee ideally) but they're off to a good start as things stand.

Yelp
Had a lovely Saturday brunch experience. It's small but bright and fun environment. Casual and very nicely executed small plates. I highly recommend the smoked salmon hash.

Yelp
It's alright. Not great, but the wide array of gin & tonics push it over the top to a 4 star place on my initial writing - but then having read through my review I realised I didn't actually like the place as much as I'd thought. I met a friend of mine for dinner here one evening and was surprised how difficult it was to get my table - the one that had been reserved. I couldn't find it at first so I asked a waitress, she found it and told the couple sitting there that they had to move. They were paying so I figured it wasn't a problem but it took them 15 minutes to move and the waitress just didn't care. She told me she was going to clean the table then I could sit but she never came back, so I just sat. The food was decent - I got cod cheeks, which were fried in way too much batter, and the heritage tomato salad which had a slightly off taste and could have used something other than just slices of tomato (maybe a touch of feta? or avocado? or something? anything?). My friend got the tattie pancake which she enjoyed and the chargrilled gem, which was a bit wet? The atmosphere was okay, I guess. Loud music and tables pushed very close together (my friend couldn't get out of her seat without having two people at a different table move) make it hard to have conversation. But when I initially arrived, at about 6:20, it wasn't so bad. I think it just got louder and darker at 7pm, maybe. It was also difficult to negotiate the place - do you take a seat yourself? Get seated by a waitress? There's also no place to wait so people hover. But yeah, the gin and tonic menu was great.

Yelp
Cute breakfast/lunch spot in City of London. I had the avocado toast with feta cheese topped with cucumber salad and a side of truffle fries. The avocado toast was above average but I didn't agree with their choice of bread. It was very nutty/grainy and I felt like it competed to be the star of the show. I did however really enjoy the lightly dressed cucumber salad. It cut the fatty avocado/cheese and added another dimension to the otherwise basic avo toast. The truffle fries were perfect! Thin and crispy. What more can you ask for? The next time I'm in London, I'll be sure to come back and check out their cocktail list. Cheers for now!

Yelp
Popped in here tonight for a drink and found it to be kind of overly stark and uncomfortable. Tres hipster. The seating was mostly like wooden and metal stools from primary school. We were greeted at the door by a soft spoken guy who seemed sweet, but frazzled. We asked for a cocktail menu and he said, "We can make you what you want." and we asked again and he said they didn't have one (but they did, we found one later on). We set uncomfortably (seriously, there's nothing cozy or lingering about this place, it's more of a coffee shop-cum-cocktail bar, but the cocktail bar seemed like an afterthought) and awaited our food and drink order. My cocktail was the AFJ 45, which was just alright. Kind of flat for something containing Prosecco. We also tried the Wild River Ale, which was pretty good. Sadly, we waited half an hour and never received the burger and fries we ordered (which in fairness looked and smelled delicious, which is why we ordered it) and were told the order never got placed, so we asked for that money back and left to find dinner elsewhere. I'd go back, I suppose, but maybe not for cocktails.

Yelp
The problem with London Yelp is that the small number of reviews skews the average. AFJ doesn't deserve 3.5 stars (what is was before I posted this) because it's good. Not amazing. But good. The decor is pretty standard for a new hipstery (but obviously not really because it's Smithfield and lawyers and millionaires live here while the market/Crossrail workers eat at the Smithfield Cafe) joint. Lots of mismatched wood and metal, probably some from schools. The food is good but again, nothing new. Oh, smashed avocado on toast? Wow. The beer and cocktail list is good and the service is excellent. This place is needed in the neighbourhood. It's more innocent and less bland than Smiths. And it's more polished than the pubs nearby and places like Beppe's. It's a solid 4.

Yelp
All-day place where you can get breakfast or takeaway coffee in the morning or drinks and dinner at night. Nice decor, nice and light with huge windows. Good gin menu and the presentation is really nice. A good respite from the other spots on Long Lane, which are mostly completely standard and boring pubs.

Yelp
Ask for Janice is a great spot. The gin selection is ENORMOUS, just go for the gin. The food is fantastic too, the menu changes frequently, but their beef croquettes are a staple and a must have. They pair very well with gin too!
