I want to start out saying: ignore the bad reviews!!! We almost changed our reservation after reading the very few negative comments and we are both SO happy we stuck with Aska. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating- even filling us in on local events (it was puffling season), restaurants, tips, etc. They even let us use the washer and dryer for free (as long as it wasn’t taken up by hostel linens). The room was so nice, clean, and comfortable. The bathrooms were impeccable. The other guests were friendly and respectful. The location was stellar: bakery next door, brewery across the street, restaurant connected, just a couple minutes walking distance from the ferry, and the list goes on. We honestly loved this hostel and wish we would’ve planned to stay longer!!! On top of all of this, it was a great value for the price. We will be back! Thanks Aska Hostel!

I have never stayed in a hostel before this one. I found it clean, and hospitable. The owner Beggi was not there when we needed to check in but was easily reached by phone and there in 2 minutes. He owns 2 business on the island and is quite knowledgeable. Our rooms could be locked with a key, and had a warm heater for cold nights. There are 4 showers with doors that lock from the inside. The showers do not have a place to keep your personal items. Overall a nice feel.

When we arrived on the island by ferry, it was already nearly 8pm. It is notoriously hard to find accommodations in Iceland in the Summer. On an island with 3500 people, not having a reservation would normally be . . . impossible. When we arrived at Aska Hostel, there was a problem with the reservation we had set up through another service. It showed up, but had not reserved a room for us. And of course the hostel was fully booked! The two nice people working on the front desk called the owner and apprised her of the situation, and she immediately made her own apartment available to us. Just amazing. My Sister-in-Law met the owner at the apartment, which was made up for us fresh, and told her stories of growing up on the island, and in general made what could have been a terrible experience one we will remember fondly. When we went back in the morning to turn the key back in, they asked us to stay for breakfast! The kindness and hospitality of these wonderful people cannot be overstated, and I encourage you, if you need a place to stay in the Westman Islands, do NOT hesitate to stay at the Aska Hostel!! I should also mention that the restaurant right next door, Gott!, I think is excellent, and they were amazingly kind, as well. Overall, if you are going to Iceland, take a day and visit the Westman Islands. Truly memorable.

We booked one of the last rooms in Heimaey during a summer trip to the Westman Islands. I was a little nervous because I was traveling with my mother who had never been to a hostel in her life. I didn’t tell her about the shared bathroom until we arrived. Fortunately, she was pleased with the accommodations of our Family Room which accommodated us nicely. The location of the hostel is fantastic, easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and museums and the dock. Visiting the Westman Islands was the highlight of our trip to Iceland, and the Aska was a delightful place to stay. I would recommend it highly!

This was our second hostel stay during our time in Iceland. We were hiking most of the day and this friendly little place was a welcome rest area. The rooms and restrooms were very clean and the staff was friendly. The beds were very comfortable, but the shower was even more spectacular. Sporting a large rain shower head, the shower also had adjustable pressure that gave an invigorating wash at the end of a day of a strenuous hike. The kitchen area was functional, with many utensils at our disposal, as well as free coffee products. The only drawback was the location of our room directly over the restaurant next door, which did provide some rather loud music, but only for a short while. The Aska Hotel is located right in the middle of Vestmannayer, so we were able to venture out into the town on foot. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience.

Very cute European style hostel. The owners were very friendly and excited to chat about their recommendations of places to visit. This hostel has a very cosy feel. The bathrooms and showers are shared by other guests, but they all have locks on the doors and provide plenty of privacy. We were going hiking to Stórhöfði, and one of the owners was nice enough to drive us to the top so that we could enjoy the walk back downhill. On the way up, she told us stories about the island and her experiences living there. Overall, we had a very positive experience and would highly recommend it.

This is a very cozy hostel on Vestmannaeyar with a prime location in the center of the town. We had a great room (room number 8) with views of the town, the surrounding mountains and volcanos. Showers and toilets were clean and not too busy.

We had a two beds private room. The room was decent. The shared bathrooms were very clean. They have a small little stove and we were able to cook our dinner. The staffs were very friendly.
