Ahi Serafeddin Mosque, also known as Arslanhane Mosque, is one of the oldest and most significant mosques in Ankara. Built in the 13th century and restored in 1289–1290 by Ahi Serafeddin, it features a rectangular plan with 24 wooden columns and a flat wooden roof (Ahi Brotherhood is a socio-religious and economic guild system). The mosque is notable for its intricately carved wooden minbar and its Selcuk-style mihrab with tile and stucco decorations. It gets its nickname from a lion statue embedded in its wall (Arslan/Aslan means lion). In 2023, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of Anatolia’s wooden-columned mosques.
