Aso Roadside Station

Unfortunately, on the day we wanted to visit Mt Aso, there were storms with mini hailstones and also lots of fog. We stopped here for a rest after driving all the way from Kagoshima. There is a bus and train station, where you can find toilets. Across the street, there is a farmers' market that has local produce, including bento boxes and sandwiches by locals. We bought a couple of beef bentos, as well as a cheesecake wheel, strawberries and chiffron cakes slices. There is a small dining room for customers, but do note that you need to remove your footwear and also sit Japanese style. Carpark lots are limited but free.

You can immediately find cute Kumamon here! Aso Roadside Station is a lifesaver for travelers! Their convenient locations and wide range of services make road trips so much easier. From fuel and snacks to restrooms and parking, they've got everything covered. There's a fruit stand outside and souvenir shop inside. The staff is friendly and helpful, too. Highly recommend stopping by if you're hitting the open road!

I really love this roadside station! One of the best roadside stations we have been to in Japan! We decided to overnight here in a car. We thought we would be the only one but there are around 10 cars overnight there like us. All facilities especially the toilets are well-maintained and clean. The view is gorgeous. Various lovely local produces are sold here from the morning and there are lots of yummy food and bento for your selection. Aso milk is also sold here and very delicious. It's the place you must visit when travelling around Aso areas. There's also the hot spring nearby.

Aso Roadside Station is a fantastic stop for anyone exploring the area. It offers a good variety of Aso souvenirs, perfect for taking home a piece of the region. The local bento meal boxes are tasty and affordable. The station also has an impressive selection of locally grown vegetables. Don’t miss the milk ice cream, which boasts a deep, rich flavor and creamy texture — a must-try treat!

Wow this was a great shop with the parking. The weather wasn't nice but many people inside and outside. There was a big bathroom beside the shop separately. The EV charging area and cyclists area were too. We saw many camping cars parking there for the rest. There were many fresh veges and fruits outside, local food, drinks, radio eat snacks, crafts, and Kumamon stuff were inside. There was a room with the TV on to eat after buying the bento box, snacks, or drinks, which was a great idea to attract the people to come back. We just love that place!

Nice quiet roadside station for a stop. If you like the anime, One Piece, get your photo taken beside Usopp's statue out front!!!

We visited for the Famous Milk Ice cream soft serve and certainly live up to its reputation as the best milk ice cream in the region. Was shocked to find horse meat buns on sale.

We went to the roadside station to get info on how we can best get to Mt Aso. Luckily, the Mt Aso information counter , right at the front, had an English guide who provided excellent advice on how to best spend our day hiking Mt Aso, how to get there, the bus times, the ticket counter, etc. His advice gave us the opportunity to see everything on our list and optimize our day. If you are a bit lost and don’t know how to get to see the beautiful craters — definitely get info here!! Otherwise the stop itself has a wonderful selection of products from Mt Aso, and one of the better tamagosandos we’ve had (the one by italasso. It runs out fast.
