On the Grid : Assembly Hall

"Welcome to Seattle restaurateur Tom Douglas's food court. This one stop shop for a variety of food options is the place to grab lunch, fresh squeezed juice and your morning cup of joe. Its the only place we know to grab artisanal pretzels bagels along with a spam musubi." - Wexley School For Girls

I came thinking this building was Temple Square, so you can imagine my surprise as I walked around the corner and came across everything else included in Temple Square. Pretty neat place. Lots of tidbits of things to read while enjoying the scenery.

Was closed for renovation upon visiting. Expected to be reopened in 2026. The Assembly Hall on Temple Square is a Gothic Revival style building finished in 1882. It was built as place of worship for local Latter-day Saint congregations in Salt Lake City, Utah. The historic building is located on the southwest corner of Temple Square. It was built using stone from the same quarry as the Salt Lake Temple

I went to the Assembly Hall for the first time (that I remember) when I was 19. General Conference was still held there and we waited in line for a long time to get in. Good times! This week I went back because my daughter’s Madrigal & Legacy choir groups were singing. The seats in the upper balcony were still as narrow and cramped (I’m 5’9” and my knees more than hit the bench in front of me - definitely had to sit sideways) but the acoustics didn’t disappoint. Their choir sounded amazing as they belted out their Christmas tunes! I recorded a couple of snippets and the audio was like I was standing right in front of them. So next time you’re at Temple Square, stop by the Assembly Hall and listen for a few minutes. You won’t be disappointed! And you can warm up from the ridiculous cold outside. 😂🥶

During my first time hols to SLC I visited Temple Square. The Assembly Hall turned out to be my favourite building of all! Do make the effort of stepping inside and keep your eyes open for the immense, detailed craftmanship! Look up to the ceiling or enjoy the stained-glass windows : very pretty! Btw, you don't have to be a Mormon for visiting this place.

Pleasant assembly hall in a quiet corner of Temple Square. Open to the public. Fine pioneer workmanship inside and out. Beautiful during Christmas time when lights clothe the walkways surrounding the building.

I had a great experience visiting Temple Square. All the "brothers and sisters" were very friendly, and welcoming. Great atmosphere.

Beautiful architecture and liberty people. There is a tour every 30 minutes where the three main buildings and their history are described.

Yelp
Beautiful beautiful! You will love stopping here on your tour of Temple Square. One of the highlights of this building is the organ and it's pipes that resemble trumpets. The grounds around the building are always groomed and well maintained, the flowers especially make the building pop in the springtime. It's very peaceful and makes for a great place to sit and relax or just walk through. Enjoy your time in this building, you certainly won't regret being in a place like this! TIPS & TRICKS: * Easily within walking distance if you park at City Creek Mall under Nordstrom Rack.

Yelp
A beautiful building in Temple Square that often hosts concerts on weekends. While the exterior is gothic, the interior is modern. The grand organ is a highlight. On this occasion, we heard holiday music by the choir. Check the schedule and do visit for some lovely music.

Yelp
There isn't much to see at the Assembly Hall unless you come for an event. It is a cool building with some great architecture. One of my graduation ceremonies was held here. Great spirit in the building and all of Temple Square. If you are visiting Temple Square for the first time, I'd recommend taking a tour with a missionary. They are really good to tell you the history of the site and about the beliefs of the LDS Church.

Yelp
One of my favorite buildings in the world. Beautiful architecture and construction. I've been to several lectures and concerts here for years. Great acoustics with a huge pipe organ in a choir area. Comfortable padded bench seating on the main floor and in the balcony. Carved wood details inside with pillars painted to look like marble. Gorgeous stained glass windows. The exterior looks like a castle.
