Cheap as chips basic budget hotel. ||Not like any of the pictures here, but i didn’t go with pre conceptions as i had never seen any pictures. ||As mentioned by others on here, the towels and bedding was changed for the 3 nights I was there. The bed was firm. Bottled water was put in the rooms. AC was working. I was able to wash some clothes and dry them. ||The shower room could probably depress the more sensitive souls who visit. ||The hotel is tucked behind the main Wanping road. into a housing estate, so the road noise is minimised. ||Maybe there are better rooms and I got one a bit shabby around the edges; certainly not luxury, or what westerners would imagine was 3 star. ||The staff were getting on with their work, not too chatty. My neighbour banged on my wall when i was talking to a friend at about 22h / 10:30 pm at night - but hey some people find difficult to communicate face to face...||||I missed the breakfast (natch) and usually headed out for noodles or similar around the corner ( a very good restaurant - just turn left - dumplings and the aubergine and potato dish are really good - DongBei SiJi JiaoZi Wang (WanPing South Road)||||Front of the hotel was nice to see an old aunty looking after a young toddler

This is a sad story. I have spent a week at this hotel about three years ago and it was rather doubtly a three-star one already. The issues then were dark, small, neglected rooms, poor breakfast and no English speaking personnel. Otherwise it was acceptable. I needed a place to stay in this area this year and was not sure if I should return to the Asset Hotel but after reading some enthusiastic reviews I thougt that maybe I was too demanding or they made some changes in the meantime. I booked a rooms there and that was big mistake.|It is a ruin, something difficult to imagine until you see it. I took some bigger room this time. On the way we saw dirty, damaged walls but it was much worse in the room. Well, the door were also dirty. The carpet was stained, the wardrobe lost the door (!), the walls are difficult to describe. But you can watch the photos. Towels were clean and exchanged every day, there always two fresh bottles od water delivered, cosmetics etc. Again, the room was too dark, even if all the lamps were on. AC was working but in an uncontrolled way, it was always too cold or too hot and the displayed temperature had nothing to do with reality. The beds are comfortable and they were made daily by the maid but I have not seen any vac there through the week I have spent at the Asset Hotel. Imagine. That is impressive. The breakfast was mostly Chinese - styled but I was eating the toast with peanut butter and marmalade. There were also scrambled and cooked eggs there to eat. The breakfast room is steamy and smells weird - the mix of a steam and mold on the walls. I was shocked when I realized how the dishes are washed. It has nothing to do with hygiene. Hotel's stuff does not speak English, they avoid greeting the guests, never say good morning...|Wi-Fi is working (if working) with a zero speed. Tv has Chinese menu only. Hotel phone is pit of service...|In my opinion the Asset Hotel should be removed from any civilized booking system until it would be completely renovated. There is not such a thing like "good for the price", the dirt is never good at any price. Really sad. |

I was disappointed with this hotel at first, but it grew on me (after I had someone show me how to turn on the AC-it's the grey remote by the bed). I was expecting something much nicer based on the pictures, but am pleased with what I got for the price. Watch out for the elevator door when you are slowly loading luggage. My child likened it to a dragon. The room is a bit shabby and not perfectly clean, but not dirty enough for me to worry about germs. The linens and towels seemed clean and were comfy. The toiletries were as good as average, and replaced daily. The hotel desk staff were friendly and helpful, although they had limited English. Internet worked well for me. I liked the breakfast. While the selection was limited, it was good and well-chosen. My 8 year old had jam on toast and was happy (she didn't like the corn flakes because they weren't frosted) and I had a substantial and delicious assortment of juice, coffee, hard boiled eggs, steamed buns and rice pockets, and excellent seaweed soup. There was also congee and tofu with ..... radishes maybe? ||||The location was good, though a little tricky to find the first time. (Look for the big sign.) The value for the price/location is very good. We had to spend one night in a much more expensive hotel further out of the city because I made a booking mistake. Little Miss preferred the posh hotel, but I would return to the cozy Asset given the choice.

Booked the hotel from Agoda as it popped up as one of the lowest cost options. Was on transit back from another Chinese city and had wanted to take a short break on the way home. ||The location|The location is quite inaccessible and the hotel is tucked in on a small side road, sandwiched by much taller apartment block. It is easy to miss but look out for the large red sign with the hotel name on Wan Ping south Road. The main distinguishing point seems to be Ling Ling Road. If you are coming from the south it is just to the left after that road junction. Ask the driver to slow down and keep left when approaching Ling Ling road traffic junction. The hotel is pretty far away from the main shopping district though and a cab there would cost about 20-30RMB. Did not manage to see where the nearest train station (Shanghai stadium) was but believe it is a couple of streets away. Believe there are a couple of hospitals near by. ||The hotel |The hotel is definitely a budget type hotel, no frills and the first room I got was quite musky and had totally no view. The rooms are also a bit confusing as the even numbers are on one corridor and the odd are on another and the rooms stagger in a ascending spiral circular arrangement. The room looks pretty run down with wall paints flaking at parts and the luggage banging marks on the wall do not seem to have been cleaned. The bed was firm and comfortable enough but the piece of cloth they lay over the covers seemed stained with dirt. The toilets were functional but the body wash was limited to small bottles half the size of regular hotels. The towels seemed a little less than white. Maybe they don't bleach their towels. On the last night I noticed I was able to hear faint snoring noises from the adjoining room. Could either be that the next door person snores extremely loudly or the walls are not that sound proof. There was a mini fridge ( that was unplugged and a small safe and kettle and dryer. The normal stuff. The air con seemed to be pretty new and worked pretty well. ||The price. |The rooms were really cheap. At about USD30+ a night, it was a really good price for a budget traveller.||The service|This is the part I kind of like the most. The initial check in guy at the front desk was extremely helpful and very friendly. He answered my questions perfectly and seemed to be really genuine in his friendliness. The lady on the second day was nice too. The guy on the first night helped give me suggestions on where to find food at 2 am when I checked in. |My request for towels and the overall cleaning of the rooms was pretty good. I had left my room pretty messy and they managed to tidy it up real well. ||Overall|In the context of its great price, the room is pretty ok. No, you will not get the ritz Carlton experience, but this price range is as cheap as a hostel in Shanghai. Would I go back? Maybe if I was on a budget. The price is great. The service staff was pretty nice. Wish they would change their towels and clean the walls and check on the flaking paint in the room.

I chose the Asset Hotel based on the look of the pictures found here and other booking sites. I checked in on a Friday evening from the airport (NOTE: DON'T ACCEPT TAXI RIDES FROM THE PEOPLE HANGING AROUND THE ARRIVALS AREA! RIP OFF!). Those photos are dated and deceptive. The room assigned to me was dirty, dingy and lacking the promised WiFi to get anything done. The single evening desk guy was in cooperative as best. When I asked for a cab to the Metro, he said I could walk to it, but he didn't give me any solid directions to find it. The room in particular had peeling wall paper, carpets that hadn't been vacuumed in ages, and there was black mold on the wall-ceiling corners. The only positive was the bed which felt great, but minus points for the sheets that look as if they hadn't been laundered. The TV was a vintage 18 inch tube set that had four channels, and the programs where actually shown on a thick inset boarder within the TV screen. My last straw was the lack of hot water in the shower because the water heater was broken. Next day I got out of there and found the Lee Gardens Hotel not too far from there. A far better hotel experience with a great staff, great rooms and WiFI (get a VPN) and a connection to the Metro within the same building. A little more money, but well worth it. I implore you to NOT book this flop house masquerading as a 3 star hotel. It's awful and anyone saying this place is acceptable has little or no standards. It really shouldn't even be listed here or anywhere else. My trip was in July 2016, but the date scroll doesn't go back that far.

What they show you on the photos is just not true any more. Unfortunately, this hotel is a real disaster. Scary place. Negatives: The location was poor but not to far. You need about 5 minutes walking to the metro and from there 15 minutes for the center. Also the stuff doesn't speak english very well (We were able to communicate well with only 2 people).||Positives: Complete and tasty breakfast, Chinese and Western style to choose from. We could go through the day without eating anything else. Comfortable room and always warm water when we need it.

The Asset Hotel is NOT recommended. The rooms are old and not as pictured. The bed had ripped and dirty sheets which were never changed during our stay. The shower was moldy and looked as if he hadn’t been cleaned in years. The breakfast was lacking, and the service sucked. We had a room with two people and although they checked us both in, we did not receive two towels and had to continuously ask for them. |It is a lesser expensive option, so we didn’t expect much, but it is not even worth that. The location was convenient for the subway and eating shops.
