"A Veg-Friendly Restaurant with Traditional Cuisine Astelena 1997, not to be confused with the pintxo bar Astelena, fills an important niche in San Sebastián dining. While seasonal vegetables are at best supporting actors and at worse nonexistent in many local restaurants, at Astelena they take a more central role. You can get the best the Basque soil has to offer—artichokes, peppers, cardoons—prepared from scratch and with a hand that knows how to season. They have a mean steak, too."

The service was fast and decent for a touristic area. The food was good, using fresh ingredients. The bread could’ve been better.

Simple ingredients and creative food. The ingredients shine in this delicious basque and french fusion. Service is impeccable. Happy that it's just shy of a 1 star Michelin experience as it keeps an exceptional value for what you're getting. I had the degustation menu. Well worth it.

We did the tasting menu and loved every dish except one, which was cod in a pea puree. We both thought it was rather bland. However, the rest more than made to for it. The beef cheeks were tender and delicious. The dessert was one of the most delicious I've had.

Ode to Traditional Basque Cuisine Since the summer, I hadn’t been to Astelena, and once again we left amazed as usual. We started with the classic hake pie, a dish that takes me back to my childhood and is a must every time I go. Next, we had Hongos with egg yolk, which were very flavorful and had an excellently achieved texture. For the main course, we chose Txuleta with "traffic light" (peppers, French fries, and lettuce). Jokin, the head chef, told me he personally prepared it, as we usually have long and in-depth recipe conversations — and honestly, it was spectacular how he made it and how good it tasted. It'll be hard to find anything that compares. Finally, we finished with a torrija and a cheesecake, both of which were delicious. I’ll be back in the summer for the Txipirones Pelayo, which are out of this world the way they make them.

Finally a high end restaurant that serves normal portions! I found everything of this restaurant fantastic! The cuisine was mainly local with both fish and meat options available. The service was great, the waiters explain the plates and introduce you to your meal perfectly. The female manager that takes your order is very professional and always with a smile. Although the table are quite close to each other it is structured in a way that still allows you to have your privacy without any problem. Great for a date night! See you soon!

I loved this meal! It was one of the best meals I had on my trip to Spain so far. The waitress we had was very nice. The food was superb! My favorite dish there was the rice with squid or the scallops! My daughter loved it there and so did my husband. The food was worth every penny! 10/10!!!!!

It’s definitely my favorite restaurant in San Sebastián. We got in there at lunch time, so we went with a Lunch course at €33 for each. The quantity was perfect and also the quality of every dish was amazing. We enjoyed the Basque cuisine a lot. And that course included a bottle of wine.
