Definitely beautiful pastries, but I do feel as though you are paying for the looks more than the flavour itself.
Finally got a chance to try these viral pastries after driving an hour out for them. I do not think they are worth the drive, unfortunately, if you are out of town. If you're in the area, by all means, but given the distance, cost and experience, I can't say it's for me.
I tried the hazelnut chocolate tart and strawberry mousse cake. The tart was my favourite of the two, seemed balanced in flavour and not overly sweet. The pastry dough itself was good, texturally, and I appreciated the whole pieces of hazelnuts in the caramel filling. Too much of the mousse on top for me; could have been toned down.
The strawberry mousse cake was underwhelming for me, though beautifully constructed. I do appreciate the time and effort to make it as beautiful as it is, but if the flavour isn't there, then it's not worth it. Texturally, I do wish there was more cake to mousse ratio. Too much mousse for such little cake, and the cake itself was dry.
The lady serving us didn't seem the nicest and gave a bit of attitude for us not telling her how many pastries we were getting. We had picked out a couple but wanted more, but were uncertain which others we wanted, as it was our first time there, something she'd have known if she'd asked. She seemed upset she had opted for a smaller box and had to use another one on us.
Overall, I would recommend the hazelnut chocolate tart, and I'm sure there are a few others that are good as recommended by others, but I don't think I'll be back to try them after this experience, unfortunately, unless I'm in the area. Not worth going out of your way for.
