The resort is very nice. The unit was fine except I was surprised that the studio was a murphy bed. We almost always get studios because we are not in the room much. The front desk was very nice but not very helpful since, apparently, the unit was owned and managed by an outside company. May have been owned by an individual and managed by the outside company (Vacations internationale). The unit had not shampoo or conditioner and we were told we had to buy our own. The unit had one day of coffee for a seven day stay and, again, we had to buy our own. Vacations Internatonale was responsive to our phone call and provided coffee for $1 a day. I realize this in somewhat minor but I have never heard of a major resort not providing shampoo, conditioner, or coffee. There was no laundry detergent either although there was a washer/dryer unit in the room. On the flip side, the resort was very nice and the room was well provided with appliances. I would probably stay there again but these minor problems were an inconvenience.

Dear all I just arrived at the resort, only to be greeted with a room with no air conditioning and no service to attend to it. The guest service, maintenance, room service all unavailable and when I asked the lady at the reception, her only answer was- there’s nothing I can do to attend to your inconvenience. No help whatsoever and no response!! The location is also not great with little access to other services. They are really not helpful and when the kind of temperatures, and the amount they charge for the room, not having air conditioning is just not worth the price you would pay!! Also no food available on the property, so if you’re checking in late, be prepared to stay hungry or venture out to find your own way!! Please avoid!!

Beautiful property! 2 pools, bbqs at pool areas, easy walking to other near properties, ABC store right behind. , Our room was perfect!!! Ocean view, listening to waves all night… soothing, calm. Would book here again if we go back in the future.

I just made a reservation for October at the property for two weeks and I am second guessing my decision. We stayed there last October for two weeks and I loved the property but did observe rude behavior by the front desk staff. Today I was given a rate and was trying to understand the significant increase in price per night and was told by the woman on the line to take it or leave it. Wow just wow. If you decide to stay here, I guess this is the kind of treatment you can expect. I have worked in meeting planning and with properties booking hotels and events for years and never have been told to take it or leave it. Very disappointing.

Came here 3 times and it’s been fine. But this time around we were told by staff we can’t play volleyball on the grass. Ok that’s fine. We went to the putting green and then were told we can’t play since they don't allow it after sunset, but yet the pool stays open til 10 and that’s fine. So basically we’re only allowed to stay in our condo and not do anything else. Stupid rules and workers weren’t really friendly. Won’t be back here again.

Our ocean front room was in desperate need of an update and deep cleaning. The room was supposed to be a two bedroom but was actually one bedroom plus a loft. The bathroom in the loft didn’t even have a real door, just a piece of wood that you had to wrestle over the doorway. Multiple lightbulbs were burnt out and the air conditioner barely functioned.

We love staying at the Aston Papakea and is our second time. It's nice and laid back, not very busy with crowds. Any issues with condos are remedied quickly by Aston. The condos have everything we need including barbecues by the pool. The pool and hot tub are very nice. Love sitting by the sea wall at sunrise and sunset, so relaxing listening to the waves crashing. Lots of whale sightings this time of year in January. Walking distance to grocery store and the Maui food truck park. Great food there! Close to other restaurants, cafe's and gift shops and the ABC Store.

The room we stayed in was pretty beat up and a little gross. The carpet is different colors from dirt/grime and it's falling apart from walls. The walls have big chunks missing from bottom corners and edges along with dirt/grime. This unit has just been used hard and not kept up great. The gross part besides carpet was there was clumps of hair in the drawer where scissors and some other utensils where. My sister in law got a room, and it was way nicer and clean. So you don't know if you will get a decent room or a run down room.

Yelp
Nice resort with full kitchen & laundry machines in room fully stocked for you to use everything! Bed is comfortable & couch pulls out to another bed. The decor is nice & there's a high table to eat or walkout patio has a table for 4 plus 2 lounge chairs! It's located on the beach so we were there every day especially to watch the sunset! There's plenty of lawn chairs, in ground pool, mini golf, & a few other activities. It's nice walking the beach across other resorts & nearby outdoor restaurants to grab food & drinks.

Yelp
Be aware of this company and the mis leading website. You get nothing they put on their Website. They take your money and you get here and stuck with bad accommodation. We did much research our family decided on a 3 bdrm condo. We researched every bedroom and sleeping accommodation for our family, website shows many pictures 2 bedroom + Loft. Two bedrooms downstairs with a king in each. And several beds upstairs in the loft. Two queens a bathroom and a twin. Aston put false pictures and totally screw you out of your money and ruins your family vacation. After check in. Our condo is nothing what showed. 1 king, 1 queen, 2 twins upstairs. And two very small bathrooms. The condo is dated from the 70's. We Contact Aston, and they say they don't guarantee bedding. I asked where on the website you request bedding. They say they don't have it on the website. We are stuck, they took pymt in full and we have nothing close to what we reserved. The Lanai was totally unusable due to the compressor was so loud and blew hot air. The screen door had no handle or lever to open and close Kitchen Every dish was dirty Mostly because the dishwasher barely works, leaves dishes dirtier Not one good knife, nothing would cut an onion. We ended buying a 3 pc knife set. Only can opener is from 1983 and broken. Pots and pans were a joke. No egg pan at all. Two bathrooms, master tub doesn't drain. Today no water at all for a couple hours. W/d was good Furnishings from 1978. If we needed anything like more TP paper towels you had to call Aston, which closes at 5 pm Pools were good, staff was nice, but Aston was not on premise so the staff could not help us with anything. We have been coming to Maui for over 22 yrs, we always stay in the Kahana area. As properties age, they get updated. This has been by far the worst experience and felt we got scammed by Aston

Yelp
Wonderful beachfront resort. Not crowded. Easy parking, pools are nice. Yoga class was wonderful. Very family friendly. Staff is friendly and helpful. Only thing that was unexpected is when it said air conditioning, that means a small room air conditioner in the main room that doesn't really work. Fans are helpful.

Yelp
Well I will start off by saying that my condo is not exactly located right on the ocean. I learned something this trip. Ocean view is a view facing toward the ocean and you may be able to see the ocean, however, the ocean front condo, you are actually seeing the beach and on the beach of the ocean. I have an ocean view. I can view the ocean but the walk to the ocean is almost a quarter of a mile. The units and rooms are out dated at least the one I'm in. If you decide to get a two-bedroom those in my humble opinion on the j section or outdated, maybe it's just my unit or it could be all the units in this section. The customer service seems to be good and they have accommodated me, as I arrived early and they were able to get me a room and they also said if I needed more time on checkout they could work with me there as well. I have a few issues with the tub stopping up and a couple other things and I can tell you when you call them they come fast. They don't play around. They're coming if not within 20 to 30 minutes within a couple of hours. As long as they are on duty, I haven't had any problems with maintenance service. I have a huge parking lot. I thought parking was going to be a problem especially over the weekend while I was here and there were more people checking in but turns out there was plenty of room for everyone and just about 90% of the time I was able to get right in front of my door almost. I don't know about the other properties in the area. I know that I did a little research outside of YELP and I decided to give this place a chance. For some reason YELP has this resort rated at 2.5 stars, but in my humble opinion, I can see them having four stars. If they update this place and really get it shining, they'd be right up there in 4 or 5 every week.

Yelp
I had a confirmed and booked reservation through Orbitz, and at arrival the front desk said they had nothing for me. Family with a rental car full of suitcases and no reservation even though I showed them that I did. There was no accommodating whatsoever and very rude staff just directed me towards Orbitz and told me to leave. I would never stay there after the way they treat their guests.

Yelp
There are many owners and companies working with the resort. It is almost impossible to have something repaired or replaced. Theoretically, the property is great. The accommodations are basic and unsupported by the facility due to individual owners renting condos.

Yelp
First off, I want to say that I have stayed at Papakea Resort many, many times over the years, and also have lived there as a resident back in the 90's. Its location, and quiet old Hawaii charm make it a personal favorite. I have stayed at the same condo the last couple times and had a wonderful time there. I give them both five stars. This summer, however, I booked a last minute trip and my usual condo wasn't available so I found another one that looked nice, unit E106. It was kind of a splurge as they charge practically double for the same size but I went ahead with it. Tragically, the Lahaina fire happened 9 days after booking our trip. Immediately, the condo owners started reaching out- encouraging (begging) us to not cancel, the reasoning for it that they already had to refund their August guests. Well, of course they did, visitors were asked to leave the area! I told them I wasn't sure I felt comfortable coming, that I wanted to be respectful and that if they needed to cancel our reservation and rent to a local resident I would completely understand. Again, they were encouraging us to still come, that it was business as usual. I knew this to not be the truth. I have friends that were still out of work due to their restaurants and hotel being closed. Their children were not back at school yet because there was no school to go back to. Governor Josh Green had recently issued a statement asking visitors to stay out of West Maui until Oct 17th, and then updated it to Oct 8th. My trip was planned for Oct 3rd-8th, so out of respect, I cancelled my trip. My airline gave 100% refund no questions asked. The owners of my condo, Michelle and Milo McGarry refused a refund saying they're not financially capable of it and then after some back and forth said they would refund my tax and cleaning fee. I am beyond frustrated with this whole situation, it's been nearly two months and they're still refusing a refund. I've tried to get them to do the right thing, but they said they've been more than generous refunding my tax and cleaning fee. Ha! So this review is specifically for unit E106, and they also own one other in building B. I generally like to support people, but the things these owners have said regarding the situation are absolutely distasteful and disrespectful to the Maui people. I would wholeheartedly recommend not renting a condo from these greedy owners.

Yelp
One of our favorite places to stay in Maui. Not the newest resort, but very comfortable. (They are renovating it room by room.) The views are great, the atmosphere is relaxing, the location is convenient. Stayed here 3 times and loved it every time!

Yelp
Family of 4, stayed at the Aston Papakea, building K, at the beginning of October. The condo we stayed in was comfortable enough for our party: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, washer and dryer combo. I am in love with having a washer and dryer combo in Hawaii; all our dirty clothes could be washed and dried at the end of each day. The condo itself was clean and had all necessary amenities and was in acceptable conditions. However, the appliances were a bit out of date, e.g. the dishwasher basket was damaged by severe rust. But we were not there for a high-end resort vacation so no need to be not-picky bout little details. The view from the condos was magnificent. We could seeing hear the ocean from our condo. Also, the pool was very fun for my little ones. The resort was very relaxed and calm. We've scrolled through some other resorts where there was such a hustle and bustle that we were so grateful for the family friendly and calm atmosphere at Aston Papakea. Management was incredibly helpful with relocating us to the Aston Maui Hill resort for a night due to road closures. But when we we asked for something to be delivered to our room it took multiple days to be delivered to our room. In conclusion, we loved our stay and it was comfortable and convenient.

Yelp
Do not stay here. We booked 9 nights in August & arrived late (11:00pm) to check in. The night security gave us our keys. With taxes & fees, we paid nearly $400/night for a studio garden. Upon entering the room, we were very upset to see that there was a hide-a-bed (for over a week stay!) and the room was not nice at all. We settled in and then I saw multiple cockroaches. There was no after hours contact to request a change of room, so we had to spend the night in this awful room. Needless to say, it was a rough night of sleep. The next day we contacted the resort as we were not open to staying in a room with cockroaches & a hide-a-bed. They did switch us to a nicer room which we appreciated. Another thing to note is the resort is extremely inhospitable. We were given 2 coffee packs & 2 laundry soaps for our 9 day stay. I went to the front desk to ask for more of each, and were told each additional packet was $1. I can't believe that a place charging $400/night charges for coffee packets & laundry soap. Additionally, there was no housekeeping offered for over the week stay and we were expected to take out our own trash. The front desk staff was incredibly rude. I highly recommend staying elsewhere to get more for your money.

Yelp
The Aston at Papakea. This is based on our place. It's not very updated, they have additional unexpected charges and we had to call in to get our room sprayed because we had bugs everywhere. Yes I am aware that we are in a tropical place and yes it happens...but we had a tons of cockroaches!! Ewwwww! We also had a power outage for at least 12hours and they didn't have flashlights or anything, they eventually brought us glow sticks. But this place is just unpleasant.

Yelp
Amazing place to stay! Great location with nice pools and grounds and close to all the best beaches in West Maui!

Yelp
We've stayed at the Papakea Resort, Unit L-107, which we've booked through Maui Dreams Come True, for several years without any real issues. However, our visit this year was a complete disaster. Within one day of our stay, we realized that we had a rodent infestation after seeing a partially eaten banana and rat droppings on the kitchen counter. We contacted the property manager Misty Earnest at Maui Dreams Come True, who manages this unit, of the problem, and were told to put all our food stuffs in the refrigerator, which we did. However, our uninvited pest remained with us throughout our 9 night visit. Maui Dreams Come True made every excuse not to resolve this rather gross problem until the day before we checked out. Maui Dreams Come True was aware there was a rodent problem in the unit because we found two mouse traps under the kitchen stove from where we saw and could hear the rodent(s) at night; plus Misty Earnest, the property manager at Maui Dreams Come True acknowledged that a large rat was caught when we called to ask if a rodent (rat) was caught after we returned home. The rat damaged a wallet, ate some of our food, and clearly was a health risk. To compensate us for 9 nights of our terrible stay, Misty offered us a meager 10% refund for the cost of our stay and $100 for damage to our food and property. Aside from this amount being insulting, we accepted Misty's begrudgingly. I strongly suggest that those looking to book a Maui vacation NOT stay at the Papakea Resort, and that you avoid booking through Maui Dreams Come True at ANY of their properties. There are too many other lovely condos to rent on the island that are NOT infested with rodents and have exceedingly poor management!o

Yelp
First, we love the Papakea resort. We hosted a wedding in Maui seven years ago and rented four condos there for the family. We have a timeshare, so I booked the rooms through Interval. Our rooms were nice and we left, planning to return again sometime soon. Flash forward seven years, and our experience was very different. This time, since we knew we wanted to stay there, we booked through the Aston Papakea site. Again, I rented multiple rooms for family and ourselves (three, this time). Two sisters and their husbands were staying for one week, and my husband and I were staying for two. Their rooms seemed okay, although the A/C and dishwasher did not work for one sister/husband. The A/C was fixed, but the dishwasher did not work for the entirety of their week there. Sadly, our experience was not good. When I saw the room they'd assigned us for two weeks, I literally cried; it was that awful. I wish I'd taken photos. Green cabinets falling off the walls. Chipped tile countertops. Ancient appliances. Flooring that would make me keep my shoes on. Tacky, dilapidated - not somewhere I would stay for one night, let alone 14. When I returned to the office, they said that they could do nothing; I'd need to call Aston and request a change. I did this. Thankfully, the second room was much better. Not great, mind you, as I'll explain. (I have photos and will try to post.) But at least there was a little pride of ownership in some places. The rooms my sisters got had new tile flooring, granite countertops, and upgraded kitchens and bathrooms (shower enclosures). They had been painted recently, too, and the popcorn removed from the ceiling. Ours had granite countertops and newer kitchen and bathroom cabinets. That's where the upgrades stopped. Old, old appliances. Bathtub that had a hole in the side, plugged with something lumpy to keep it from leaking, but definitely not a tub you'd want to take a bath in! And the flooring in the rest of the condo was awful: light beige carpet originally, it seemed, but covered (everywhere!) with brown spots and stains. Gross. With the cleaning fees and rent charges, there is no excuse for dirty, gross flooring. We would have appreciated tile, for sure, but even clean linoleum would have been a welcome improvement! We spent time in my sisters' rooms, obviously, since our room was kind of too gross to hang out in. One other note: we stayed two weeks. I think it would be reasonable for Aston to change out linens and clean the sinks and bathtub halfway through the stay. Because of the humidity, the sinks got very mildewy, so I had to clean them. I don't think that should be expected. The place was also infested with teeny-tiny little bugs, especially on the kitchen countertops. I'm not sure if this is an issue there or what was going on. Maybe fumigate? Clean better? On the plus side, the A/C worked fine, and the views were fantastic (of course), which was the main objective. My real issue with Aston is this. On the booking site, you see rooms that have all been updated and are clean and pristine and ready to rent. You are not able to view the actual room you are going to get until you get there and they hand you the keys - which would be fine, if all the rooms were consistent and clean. But they are not. I would recommend Papakea whole-heartedly. But in the future, I will book directly with an owner or using one of the other booking sites the resort contracts with. I thought that, by going through Aston, we would be assured of "hotel grade" accommodations. As I've explained, the opposite is true. They are completely hands-off and you get what you get. Some owners take care of their units and have real pride of ownership. Others do not. I would recommend that the owner of F202 (upstairs oceanfront unit in the Fern building where we thankfully did not have to stay) spend what is necessary to bring the unit up to "habitable" level. And I would recommend that the owner of F209 (also upstairs and oceanfront in the Fern building) replace the flooring and upgrade the bathroom. I'm posting this to share our experience. Mahalo.

Yelp
The Aston Papakea Resort. Is an Oceanside Resort we had a one bedroom with washer dryer kitchen bathtub shower combination. The room was beautiful felt very much like home. The View Ocean View was amazing we were right across Molokai and the sunsets are awesome what am I living there. But be aware we had a problem with roaches. They were all over the kitchen and the bathroom. We told the staff and they refunded us are cleaning fee which was $89. If you can Overlook that the room and the view and the facilities are top-notch we would give them a 4 if we didn't have roaches. But the hotel Administration was able to negotiate some these off of our $634 stay. We may come back again and give it another try but like I said the location and the views are amazing and the room was amazing other than the roaches again. Yelp
We stayed at this resort for 7days just a week ago and i wasn't that great. We stayed here 5yrs ago and i got a great room that was clean had a comfy bed and good service. Now I walked into a room that stunk and the sheets were smelly too. It was old and outdated(#F103).I complained to the front desk and there respnose was "we don't clean the rooms for Costco booking. They have there own cleaners". I called Costco and they were could not believe they told me that because that is definitely not the case.. I called resort and i spoke to manager and she was not sure why front desk would have said that. They moved me to another room(f107)which was cleaner but bed was uncomfortable and small. And 2days before checking out I found 3 roaches running around. I will never stay at this resort again.

Yelp
The Aston at Papakea is just what my fiancé and I needed during our Maui trip. We're currently staying here for a total of 7 days and have had zero complaints thus far. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Yesterday there were free Mai Tai's for individuals 21+ in the bungalow downstairs by the pool, overlooking the ocean. It's an oceanfront property and you definitely get what you pay for. We have a studio and there's a full kitchen, bar, washer/dryer, restroom, bed, couch/Chairs, tv w/ DVD players and ps3. Honestly, this place is fantastic. We just wish there was a bar like their sister property next door. No worries, walking over takes less than 5 minutes! Pic is the view from our balcony!

Yelp
We stayed in an ocean front room which was nice and clean. It was so cool to have the water right there! Unfortunately for me, unexpected charges kind of put a bad taste in my mouth. We had to pay an extra $200 when we checked in and another $200 when we checked out. This was for things like "facility fee and cleaning fee." The only cleaning they did for us was change the trash once in our 4 night stay. Also, they advertise that there is a sauna at the pool but it was locked up with no explanation. Just be aware if you stay here, you'll have to pay extra fees.

Yelp
We were VERY VERY VERY unsatisfied of the stay. We should have read these reviews before booking this place. When I get to the unit front door, the door is super old and paint is peeling. Carpet and kitchen are terrible. Stairs to the upper room was tiny and the steps are high, is like you need to walk very carefully. My friend's son go his shirt torn from the stairs-way rail. The carpet was so dirty that everybody's foot was black after we got in for a few hours. The chairs for the dining table were stained and holes in the backing. Well, chairs are still fine. Most disgusting thing is bed bugs, lots of them in the room/ bed I stayed in. We went down and told the staff at the front desk and showed her the pictures, she only said "Oh my god ", and said we booked the rooms from different websites and it's not through their association. It was from a different association. If we have complaints or anything, we need to call them. We were like, how do we know you guys were different. Since we had guests with us from the mainland and we don't want them to know about it and ruined their trip and we only staying for one more night, so we kept it. After I get back to the room, I had chicken skins and couldn't sleep for that night. We always go on trips or staycation when long weekends. This was the most terrible place I have ever stayed. Even thinking about it, I still have chicken skins. They have the name RESORT, it really sounds good, but don't let this name fool you. Yeah, the outside view by the ocean was very nice, but all the hotels around that area are the same nothing special about it.

J R L.

Yelp
Family friendly place! Lots of grass and green space. No crowds! Putting greens, tennis courts, PICKLEBALL courts!!! Always a chair right ON the ocean! Saw turtles and fish right out front. Great access to walking boardwalk without the crowd walking through the resort. Units individually owned- do your research on updates and view!

Yelp
I wish I can give this place zero stars .. it was very old and shower curtains had mold .. The next morning after we checked in there was a cockroach on the shower curtain. I can't believe they make you pay all those resort fee's and they have cockroaches. We stayed in unit E104.. my stay was miserable always wondering if there was another cockroach that was gonna pop up

Yelp
Papakea has very well maintanied grou nds. Nice looking from the outside. We rented 2 units for a family of 8 noth ocran front. They ended up being nearly as far apart from one another as they get. Unit A-406 in particular needs everything you could think of. Paint, carpet etc. And a good cleaning. The cock roaches and other bugs coing out of sink constantly could not be stopped. We booked for August 13-21 through costco. We did not stay one night. Went to front desk and there was notning they could do. Unit L-306 was average and clean. ended up at the marriott ocean club that i happily paid for to not stay at Papakea. Each unit is individually owned but you would expect that Aston management group would have some standards. Apparently they do not.

Yelp
Amazing. Had a power outage but other than that a very nice place to stay. Hope I can go back some day.

Yelp
Shitty customer service. Hidden fees. More shitty customer service and more hidden fees. People who work at the front desk don't give a damn about any problems you have while you stay at their resort. Any problem you have they tell you to contact "Aston" (PIECE OF CRAP HOA TYPE BUSINESS) once you contact Aston they transfer you back to resort staff. Once resort staff realizes that management sent you back to them, they then notify you that all of the rooms are independently owned and there's nothing they can do and they throw their hands up like "oh well." Once you reserve with them far out in advance and they have your money, you are completely stuck/f**ked if they do not honor the reservation. Staff on resort grounds have zero authority and hand you a phone whenever an issue arises. On the other end of that phone is a person who then tells you she's sorry but she cannot help. If they mess up your reservation and all the rooms are full, you are SCREWED. We had a scheduling issue with them. We were supposed to be placed in a lower level room in H building and were promised a room in H building and paid for a room in H building IN ADVANCE! My wife even called in several times prior to our arrival to confirm the reservation and we were told everything was on the up-and-up. - Day of our arrival we were placed on the other end of the resort, on the upper level, in a room that was old, smelled of stale smoke, and had broken appliances and a toilet that didn't work inside of it. When I asked to speak with a manager I was told to wait until the next morning Long story short: this place was hell to deal with. The manager Emily that works for Aston has a very hard time communicating with her staff, she is terrible at her job. I had to tell Emily how to do her job and how she should handle our situation. It took a full day of my wife arguing with Emily and the staff, me jumping on the phone, and telling Emily how to do her job before anything was every resolved. Emily tried having us sign a contract, pay a resort fee, tax fee, and room fee for a room that we weren't even supposed to be in! When my wife and daughter have chronic asthma they shouldn't be climbing up and down 3 flights of stairs and sleeping in a smokers room. Why would I sign and pay for a room that I'm not supposed to be in? As the manager she should have taken us out of that room, placed us in the room we paid for, and placed a hold on all fees until the issue was resolved. Fact of the matter is, these people don't care. Once they have your money and you're stuck on the island with no where to go, they know they have you by the short hairs and there's nothing you can do. They have millions of people around the world flooding their Island day to day and they're too big to fail.

Yelp
We stayed here for part of our maui honeymoon . We had opted for costco package and on top it, they upgraded us to Oceanfront 1 room kitchen. The stay was amazing!

Yelp
We booked here prior to reading the Yelp reviews and was happy with the price and location. Then read the reviews. After reading some of the reviews we were worried and discussed cancelling our reservation, luckily my husband talked me into staying with Aston at Papakea Resort. We had booked a 1 bedroom/ 1 bath, but were upgraded to an ocean view 2 bedroom/2 bath - without asking. The view and property were amazing, see photos with view. The room had everything we needed for the week and more. The staff were nice and unassuming. I would recommend the resort to any of my friends.

Yelp
I'm so sad this place has such bad reviews! But my experience while staying here was total opposite. We booked through a private owner a 3bd/2ba for a family of 8 for an eight night Stay and the only issue we had was a 30 minute delay at check-in not worthy enough to complain about while in Maui! Our condo was clean and the views were amazing from the lanai. Condo grounds are immaculate, lush tropical trees and ponds throughout! Not to mention the location!

Yelp
We reserved a 2 bedroom condo and was fully furnished, 2 ice chests, 6 biggie boards, etc. Access to small beaches when tides were low. When arriving the cleaning staff were still in our room. We were told that the previous people walked through the screen door, but someone would be out to fix it the next day. 5 day later it was fixed. We were on the first floor, we were not a loud group, but the unit next to us were permeant residents and would consistently look in our unit and report us to the home owners association. Our boogie boards were out drying on the back porch. We got notice that they need to come inside. They have ankle high plans as dividers. They kept getting tripped on and the kids ankles would get cut.

Yelp
Trust me when I say that you're better off staying at a motel, or paying a few extra hundred dollars and staying at the Sheraton nearby. This "hotel/resort" is AWFUL. The pictures online do no justice. Maybe the other rooms aren't as bad, but the room my family and I stayed in was outdated and just plain out ridiculous for the price we paid for. Off the bat, once you walk in, there's this odor. I can't put a name on it, but it smells like it hasn't been cleaned for years. We opened the balcony window, only to allow bugs to fly in. Bad idea. The kitchen was outdated to the max. You weren't allowed to touch basically anything because it was the owner's belongings. You're staying in someone's condo. The bathroom was disgusting, and it felt like you were in the 1900's. I mean, really? They didn't clean your room unless you paid their cleaning fee, and at the end of your visit there's also a "mandatory cleaning fee." I mean, have you ever heard of such foolery? Plus, there isn't a beach nearby! You'd have to walk to the other hotel's property and use that beach. Stay away from this place, it's not worth your money!

Yelp
I booked the reservation online for a 2 bedroom: one room with a queen or king and another room with a combination of a king or queen with a twin or full in it. I did not get what I ordered and when I called to complain at the front desk I was given Aston Papakea reservation line since the "actual Papakea resort" has nothing to do with my room assignment. Speaking with the customer service representative she pointed out the fine print does not have a room guarantee and told me that I did not pay more for the room I chose online when indeed I did. They brought me a rollaway and told me they also had a pull out couch and denied me any compensation. To make matters worse the "fully stocked kitchen" did not have a baking sheet or anything I could put in oven to make dinner. When I called the front desk about it I was told that it is up to the owners to stock the kitchen but she would call housekeeping. We received a call back right away and told there is nothing they can do and have nothing for me. I was directed to call Aston Papakea customer service the next day after 9am and she told me she would call housekeeping. When I explained that the front desk here already did that and said there was nothing that they could do. The customer service told me she would call them herself and we had a baking sheet within 30 minutes. That tells me that the staff at Papakea lied and never called housekeeping to begin with. I will never stay here again: the service is poor and reservations for a more expensive room are not guaranteed in their fine print.

Yelp
Be very cautious in booking with this property. We booked our vacation 10 months ago, two nights before departure we were told they would have to split our family into two different units. This was not acceptable to me, we booked a family vacation to all be together. We were given a story that they were having maintenance issues with their two bedroom units, I do not believe this was true, friends in the same building had no problems with there two bedroom units. The woman who called me said they were upstaging us, not an upgrade when you can't be with your Family. We booked through Costco, Costco tried to help and told me the property should have called them not us, Aston was very vague with them on the reason for the split. When you check into this property, you deal with an outside party, I wanted to speak to a manager they had to transfer me over to the lobby phone to speak with Aston. I would put this down as one of the worst vacations ever, solely to what this resort did to us. We have vacationed in Hawaii dozens of times, not sure we will ever return and definitely not to an Aston property anywhere in the world! The only reason I gave 1 star is that it is the only way to write a review.

Yelp
I wish you could rate the resort and the condo separately. I would defiantly give the resort property a 5 start review. The property is beautiful and very well cared for. We saw people everyday trimming and taking care of the grounds. The staff was friendly and helpful. There seemed to be a lot of activities Yoga and water exercise etc. Every day they have a continental breakfast and a meeting of things to do on the island. there are plenty of lounge chairs on the lawn area overlooking the ocean. There is a small sand beach in front and below the ocean wall and a short walk down there is a much larger beach. We were able to see whales each day. There is not restaurant but many places a short walk away. There is an ABC store a 5 min walk and a grocery store close by. of How every the condo we stayed in deserves a 2 star. It is my understanding some are privately owned and some are time shares. We had paid extra to have an ocean view and got a beautiful view. That was best thing about the condo 3rd floor unit B310. The kitchen had up dated counter tops but not the dishwasher it was so loud! The bath counter tops updated but in general in older condition. The floor need a good steam cleaning along with the shower tiles. The door has damage to it and some of the walls. the curtains were dirty and the furniture was so old there was not one piece that was comfortable. The washer and dryer older in working order but took 2 hours to dry a load of laundry. The 3rd day there we had to leave so they could spray for bugs. (You would have thought they would have waited until we checked out the next day) .When we walked around we could tell some of the until were very nice and had been undated through out including furniture. With a little care this condo could have been very nice in a prime location. We are not that picky but when your are paying prime rate we expected alittle more. At least clean. Which you are charged $17.00 per day to have the trash changed and then a cleaning fee of $89.00 when you leave. I would stay there again but request an updated condo.

Yelp
The room we had did have an amazing view but there are a few things to note: 1) having a kitchen in hawaii is important since food here is not the best, that's a plus 2) the breakfast for the first morning was very disappointing, only fruits and some muffins and banana bread, didnt enjoy it at all but the orientation was helpful. 3) facilities are a bit old but I did notice they are remodeling 4) no a/c in the room, at the time we were here it wasn't needed 5) when you walk to the water, there's no beach at this place, need to walk south to hit the beach. 6) it's more wet here than some of the places down south.

Yelp
The only good thing about this place is the ocean view we stayed in room F209. This place is way over priced it's filthy and out dated see pictures posted below.

Yelp
I have experienced lots better. The unit was ok, it had everything you needed, but expect no frills. The really sad story is the resort personnel, perhaps even the management company... They're interest is in making sure you don't break any of their rules than they are seeing that you have a good time. We took kids and grandkids. The dining table top was not attached to the base so it fell off along with whatever else was on it when it was leaned on. I called the resort, they said no can do (it needed two screws which had fallen out and weren't there any more) and to call the owner, but had no contact info. We finally got someone to come in and put in the 2 screws a day later. BUT, they were johnny on the spot if we put a pool floatie on the balcony to dry, if we left the sliding glass door open while we were playing cards in the evening, or if we were playing with the granddaughters in the pool. We were admonished when it was determined one of the kids floaties was 2" too wide. Seriously??? You can, and should do better elsewhere. We had 2 units, and the refrigerator stopped working in that unit. It was never tended to after being reported. Overall, this resort is dated. Some units have had upgrades, and the units appear to be adequately appointed and furnished, but the resort staff needs serious lessons in hospitality.

Yelp
We loved this place!!!! Amazing staff... so friendly and helpful! We loved playing on the putting green every night and swimming and soaking in the hot tub. The ocean view is so amazing and I loved waking up and going straight to the view of the ocean to start my day and ending my day watching the sunset. One thing to keep in mind is these are condos and all units are different and owned by actual people. So the rooms advertised are most likely not what you'll get. Our unit was a little run down but we loved it none the less. You shouldn't be in your room anyways when You're on vacation! Strip mall within walking distance with a snorkel rental shop, grocery stores and food establishments.

Yelp
Stayed a week here with girlfriend and we're pleasantly surprised with how well everything went - read some horror stories about some of these rooms on various sites. PROS: Room was clean, kitchen well stocked and resort grounds are immaculate. They clean the grounds daily. Pool and hot tub areas are clean with plenty of quality grills (Weber Genesis series) for cooking. Shops and well stocked markets within short walking distance. CONS: No direct beach access, tired mattress in our room. OVERALL: A good value, helpful staff and I would stay here again.

Yelp
Overall I think the property is nice and well cared for. The unit I rented on VRBO is not only rundown it is filthy. I will not be renting B301 again. I felt like I could catch a disease in the bathroom...that's how disgusting the unit is. And the other reviews are true...the office staff are rude.

Yelp
This resort is actually condos/timeshares that people rent out when they are not here. There are some permanent residents but they seem to be in a section that is mostly for them. As for the resort, it is pretty nice. It has a beautiful ocean view, koi ponds, putting greens, shuffleboard, and pools. The postitives end there. First of all, if you're looking for beach access, stay somewhere else, because the entire row of resorts that this one is on is just in a huge sea wall. There's no sand, or even a beach, just some steps going down from the wall. The water crashed pretty hard against the wall though and seemed pretty rough, so I wouldn't go swimming in it. You have to travel a ways to find a quintessential Hawaiian beach. The entire trip we didn't get to play shuffleboard because there was always some kids on it messing around with the sticks and not even playing the game. As for the room, we had a two bedroom with a loft which had two more beds. It came with a full kitchen equipped with necessities such as pots and pans, silverware, etc. The decorations and furniture were really tacky but I suppose that can't be helped because it's how the owner decorated it. The bathroom and shower were probably the nicest part. My main problem with this condo was that it did not have central air. It only had an AC unit above the Lanai, which only turned on when the Lanai doors were exactly closed- if they were even a little apart it would not turn on. Because the room I was in was on the opposite end of the condo from the AC unit, it did not receive any cooling and it was unbearably hot, even during the night. Opening the tiny windows above the bed did nothing to alleviate the heat. The worst part about this resort was all the fees. They really nickel and dime you for everything. Seeing as there were 5 people in our condo, we quickly ran out of toilet paper. When we called down to the front desk, they told us that they would not provide any more unless we paid for it. The same went for extra little shampoos and conditioners. They wouldn't even give us any more sugar for our coffee!! Luckily there is an ABC store and a grocery store within walking distance so we could buy all the items they would not provide. There is no maid service, except for the person who comes by every day to take the trash. If you want maid service, then you have to pay an extra free which gets more expensive the more you want done. This was really annoying because there were no cleaning supplies provided in the condo so we couldn't really clean ourselves. The dumb thing is that upon checkout, there's an almost $100 cleaning fee that you can't get out of. I understand that some people live here but maid service should be provided for vacationing guests.

Yelp
WARNING: Aston Papakea moved us to a sister property the day of check in with no explanation or concession! Do not book with the Aston brand unless you are okay being moved to an affiliate property within their brand. We booked Aston Papakea on Sept 7, 2017 for our trip on Feb 20, 2018 and paid in full at the time of booking. The resort NEVER contacted me to say they were moving my family to a different property. I even contacted the resort a week out to inquire about a possible early check in and nothing was said. It was not until I called, day of check in, that I was informed we had been moved to Aston Mahana. I was in complete shock! I have never experienced or even heard of anyone being moved resorts with no explanation! The resort staff acted as if this was no big deal, which leads me to believe this is standard practice for the Aston brand. It was not until I requested to speak to a manager, and pressed her for a reason, that I was informed we were "bumped" because their owners take priority. This did not sit well with me as I paid more than 5 months in advance! In addition, the resort offered absolutely nothing for our inconvenience. If Aston Papakea chooses to advertise their resort to non-owners, and then proceeds to "bump" their non-owner guests when needed, they need to do something to make it up for it. Aston Papakea moved us for their convenience and could have cared less how it impacted our family's vacation. Poor customer service = poor business! I wish I would have known about this practice in advance as I would have never booked a property under the Aston brand. Taking our family to Maui was a big vacation, and one that was planned months in advance. Not only did this resort fail to deliver, but they made our family feel as if we did not matter. I would caution anyone considering an Aston brand resort to think twice as you may very likely end up in a completely different property. I reached out to the property directly as well as filled out their feedback request (emailed to me after our return) - in both I requested the property contact me and I have yet to hear from them. It has been more than a week's time.

Yelp
This resort Is joke. The first night nothing worked. No coffee pot, dishwasher, washer & dryer etc. The hotel staff were rude treating customers like garbage and catering to the annual residents.

Yelp
Let's just be clear here that star is for the view. You cannot beat it. However, this condo is nothing to brag about. The rooms we saw online are nothing like what we were given. I understand that these are rentals and everyone decorates different. But our room A208 was extremely out dated. Not to mention that there is one AC unit that is supposed to cool the entire condo. Let's just say it works adequately. But the cool air barely reaches the master bedroom which is in the back of the condo with no view. I'm here with my parents so I am sleeping in the living room on the pullout couch. I can't complain it's not super uncomfortable, but the AC is super loud. The complex is huge, with really nice pools and is honestly beautiful itself. However, Parking is scarce and we are here in February. (I'm not sure, but I don't think this is a peak time -since schools are in session) There is no beach here at the resort. The water at high tide comes right up to the sea wall. There is also a reef right off the beach coupled with the occasional very large wave. So if you can get in its slightly dangerous. But like I said, it's a gorgeous view. So if you don't care about outdated rooms with crappy AC.. This is the place for you. But I don't think it's worth almost $400 a night.

Yelp
I feel I need to review seeing others poor reviews. We stayed here for a wedding and was very pleased. The staff was so kind. The grounds were IMPECCABLE!! Drinks were great. Yes the rooms were out dated BUT I was in Maui and not staying in my room all day, just to sleep and shower that being said the rooms were VERY clean and that is what is important to me. Views were perfect. My only complaint was the sea wall, I really wanted to walk onto the beach but that was only possible early early morning. Again we were with a wedding party but I would defiantly stay there again. One more thing-this place is such a great price for the views and a few steps away from the beach without the seawall. I guess I want to pay for the experiences not the room with all the bells and whistles. I will save that for the city.

Yelp
I just had a 5 day stay at the condo resort, room B204 and at first glance I was pretty happy, outside grounds are very beautiful and the pool was clean and not crowded. The view from our room was very nice, but then I started noticing little termites or some sort of small insects all over the kitchen. I call the front desk and the sent someone to spray. The next day there were less but they were definitely not completely gone, I was grossed out and didn't use the kitchen the entire trip which was a bummer and meant I had to spend more on eating out. Then the last morning while showing I was surprised by a large cockroach in the shower!!!!! Yuk!!! Then I started looking around and found another 2 in the living room. I was so busy most days out and about that I didn't really spend time in the room except to sleep, so I told the front desk while I was checking out and they said I had to call a managing office. I'm really disappointed that this is the case, and it really speaks to the managing company. How do they not notice this type of infestation! Now I'm worried roaches might have got into my luggage, yuk!!! Had it not been for this, I would have booked here for my future visits.

Yelp
Just recently came back from a 6day, 5night stay in Maui here at the Aston at Papakea Resort The place was a little older, had tennis courts, a gated pool, and sun chairs to sit on the lawn but did not have a sandy beach to sit out on directly outside of the property. There was a sea wall with steps to get down to the sand and ocean below but depending on the tide, there would only be 3-5 feet of sand between the seawall and the ocean. They did have a bridge that connected to their sister hotel, Aston at Kaanapali Shores next door which had a nice sized sand beach you could lay out on. My cousin and I stayed in a studio room. The room itself was ok, but furniture and cabinetry in the kitchen made the room feel dated. The kitchen did include a full sized refrigerator/freezer unit, microwave, dishwasher, and full sized stove with oven. It was also fully stocked with dishes, coffee maker, toaster, blender, etc. The only downside to the kitchen was that it was rather small, but we barely ate in our room, only had cereal for breakfast, so it was good enough for us. The bathroom looked as if it had been updated more recently. It had granite looking counter-tops, newer cabinets, had a safe in the closet (which was across from the sink in the bathroom), and a nice tan tile enclosed shower with stones at the floor of the shower. There was a sliding door to separate the sink/closet area from the toilet/shower area. It was also very well ventilated as there was a window with slats you could open and close right above the rear of the toilet as well as a vent fan above the toilet. There was a small glass dining table with two chairs, a wicker couch and chair with a matching coffee table. The couches had cushions which made them decent to sit on but not as comfortable as a regular couch, yet comfortable enough to pass out on, as I did several times due to being tired and wanting to sit next to the a/c unit. The room did have an in-wall a/c unit which was connected to a rotary timer. you could only turn on the a/c for a max of 4 hours before the timer ran out (at which point, you could just walk over and turn the timer back to 4 hours). The room also had a ceiling fan for added comfort. Overall, the room was nice but what bugged me the most was the bed, it was a murphy bed that folded into the wall. Not sure why they decided to use a murphy bed in this studio unit but a regular bed would have been much more comfortable and would have made more sense. The bed was ok but the mattress wasn't very thick so not so comfortable. This was the biggest downside to the room, otherwise, it was a decent room aside from looking a bit dated. For the same price, we could have stayed in a studio room at the aston kaanapali shores but we waited too long to book our room so they were sold out by the time we were ready to book it. I think the aston at papakea isn't a bad condominium style hotel but I'd look at other places before I go back and stay here but if decide to stay here, it isn't bad at all.

Yelp
Got a package deal through Costco, was worth every penny! Older resort, not all units updated. This is an ocean front resort with amazing views. Short grassy walk to beach (next door) lots of fun amenities. I called the resort directly and paid for the ocean front view $50 more a night. You cannot get closer to the ocean waves! So fun to be on the grass by the sea. Lots of places to eat within walking distance. Only reason for 4stars is the room is older, clean and decent beds. Very quiet and family friendly area.

Yelp
Stayed here for 8 days. Pros- very clean, nice and quiet. Staff was very friendly and a nice view of the beach for our room. A short walk to abc store and other little spots. Cons- not really cons but minor annoyances. furniture was dated. Housekeeping seemed to get there around late every day during our stay. About 3pm. It took sometimes a few hours to get beach towels when requested. Pool was okay size. Wish they also had a bar. All in all, we would stay here again.

Jason X.

Yelp
So... where should I start? The 89 dollars cleaning fee or 17 dollars daily parking fees? I think people who lived in my room before probably forgot to pay the cleaning fees, because our room was so dirty and full of bugs that caused itchiness on my skin. There were stains on the sofa, wait until you see the picture! The popcorn roof seems so disgusting and outdated. Don't even mention that fancy air conditioner which seemed to be built in the 1970s! Honestly, this was worse than a $50 night hotel room I used to stay on the mainland. Unless you're are super brave of bed bugs and unidentifiable stains, I would stay away from this place.

Yelp
Mixed reviews on this "resort" as far as rooms go. Our friends booked through VRBO and have beautiful rooms. I unfortunately booked through the website and have the most run down, dirty room. Everything is our room is falling apart, dirty, in desperate need of renovation. Also, the "pool police" is super aggressive and had a terrible attitude towards children. No running, no jumping, no splashing, no throwing football in the pool. Literally the fun police. We complained to the front desk when the staff walked over to my 5 year old daughter and told her to go to the bathroom and blow her nose because she had snot, or else he would close the pool. Doesn't everyone (especially children) get a little nasal discharge after swimming under water? No one will speak to my child like that, if there's an issue, come talk to the parents, not the 5 year old who is being a kid and swimming. The pool manager stated they have strict rules at the pool, due to older folks owning the condos here and if there are kids disturbing the overall peace, they get upset. Let kids be kids, we didn't come here and spend all this money to have such tight regulations. We are a family who understands rules are rules, however, have some grace and treat the guests with kindness. I won't be back here, I hope this helps anyone else thinking about staying here, especially if you have younger children. Also, no beach unless you walk 5 minutes down to the nice resorts that ARE worth staying at. Don't waste your money here
