Great suite room, very spacious, right by the beach. I called the front desk for room service and was told that they don't manage the room, and I have to call Aston. We'll, as a guest I don't care who manages what, they should figure that out not the paying guest. Aston told me that they can do only 1 mid stay room service without charge, I mean if I have to make my own room I will rather stay at air bnb. And the worst part is that they deactivated my room key on the day of checkout even before I checked out.

Overall great stay. Our room was in fine condition. I spoke with a resident owner who said they're required to remodel every 7 years - resulting in the older quality of some of the rooms described. Our biggest downside was the pool starts at 4 feet deep and meant it was not a good pool for young children. There are public access toddler friendly pools up the street however.

Derek at the front desk was awesome! From the start we felt welcomed and the room was amazing. The location is perfect with the Whaler Village next door. My in-laws and I had a wonderful trip and they can’t wait too go back to the Whaler! Thank all the staff for the wonderful time!

We stayed here for 7 days then we moved to somewhere else for 3 days. We regret that we did that. Super nice. Parking, view, pool, jakuzi and friendly staff. That was an awesome experience. I am not sure if I could visit Maui again but if I do this will be definitely my first choice.

Centrally located on Kaanapali beach. Perfect for those that do not want the whole tourist resort…just a beautiful room and amazing staff. Quiet with full amenities!|Rooms are studio, one or two bedrooms depending upon your needs. Recommend booking direct.

Perfect location on Kaanapali beach, so close to good snorkeling, black rock, and Whaler's Village. Easy parking. The staff were so friendly. The grounds, pools, and cooking grills were well-kept. The condo was perfect for our family of 5 with amazing views of the golf course and mostly ocean view. Spacious and so comfortable. We enjoyed having the full kitchen. Loved having the option to play tennis and pickleball. Enjoyed coffee from the lobby each morning and walking on the beach. We had an amazing time!

We got black mold poisoning due to dirty AC. They did not respond to our refund inquiry. Whose client relations possible. I regret to say that I did not get any follow-up on the request I expressed via phone and text message on December 24. We started experiencing strange flu and allergy-like symptoms on the second day of our stay, and each day, these symptoms became worse. We experience the following: headache, fatigue, dry cough, runny nose, skin rash, and itching. To make it clear, the experience we have is close to torure. And still, after 7 days of being there, my daughter, wife, and I are experiencing some headaches, courting, and abnormal fatigue. We searched for the reasons for our conditions, but only on December 24th did we discover that the bedroom's AC was full of mold. We informed Aston, and maintenance arrived. They replaced the filter and discovered that the AC coil was also completely in mold. They turned on the AC and said that it would take time for the chemical they needed to use to clean the mold, which would create a smell and take some time. We agreed to keep AC off as we were leaving next morning. That night, for the first time, I was able to sleep more normally, almost without a choking dry cough. This fact is in supports the fact that we are experiencing black mold intoxication. State regulations of Hawaii impose responsibility on such issues on the landlord as the statutes "impose a duty on landlords to maintain safe and habitable premises."

My first time writing a negative review in my life ………HORRIBLE PLACE !!!!!!!! Our room hotel was 1116 . What’s on the picture is not the same thing when you get there . Apparently these apartments are not owned by Aston , it’s smells soo bad and everything is old . The service was poor , no one came to clean our room. If you really want to feel like you on a vacation In Hawaii I wouldn’t recommend this place at all . Outside is very beautiful and they have everything near by good restaurants and nice beach 🏖️. But that Room was a nightmare.

Yelp
I have stayed at The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach for my honeymoon, I have called the front desk and a person name Joy was wonderful. She helped us with what we needed and ALOHA is the service that we got. Nathan who helped us when our luggage when we first arrive was a wonderful treat.

Yelp
I will unfortunately have to rate this property a 1 due to a very insensitive out of touch owner there. It's one thing to not want to rent your short term rental long term to provide deserved security to a Lahaina fire victim BUT to tell other locals to leave the island is next level despicable. The anguish and trauma she causes within the community over Facebook is horrendous. I really hope management and or the board talks with her, she's really making a bad name for The Whaler. When booking make sure you book from a respectable owner.

Yelp
The location of this property was great for our stay in Kaanapali. It's right next to Whalers Village with places to eat and a short walk away from snorkeling at Black Rock. Some units are privately rented and some are managed directly by Aston. Underground parking gets filled most of the time and especially after dinner but there is an outdoor overflow lot available on property. Having a kitchen and a microwave in the room was convenient. We were also able to use the free washer and dryer on our floor. Our room (managed by Aston) was spacious and the bed was comfortable but it did have some cleanliness issues. Dust was visible on the ceiling, the remote control was in a plastic bag but there was grease-like residue, the lanai rail had greasy looking handprints, and the dishwasher had a murky smell. Management called the room the day after check-in to ask if everything was okay and if there's anything we needed. I informed them of the cleanliness issues and they were apologetic and offered to send housekeeping. Overall, this property is overpriced for what it is. Our ocean view room required us to be out on the lanai to see the ocean. Our room was on the Whalers Village side so we heard constant loud machinery sounds (air conditioning units I assume) from stores at Whalers Village when hanging out on the lanai.

Yelp
My husband took me on a babymoon here in April 2022. We loved our stay here. Restaurants, shops, and the beach were all walking distance which is perfect. The beach is beautiful. I think this is the perfect place for families to easily go to the beach then back to the condo. The room has a kitchen and a balcony. The service here is super friendly. The only thing I suggest is to have a "Still Sleeping" sign for the door when we are still in the room so room service does not come in. We loved it here!

Yelp
We rented a lovely oceanfront condo thru VRBO. Make sure whether renting thru Aston or some other service to really read the reviews of the rooms. Some rooms are maintained better then others. The staff was vey nice and the concierge gave us great advice for getting lei's for a celebration and reservations. Restaurants are very booked up so make reservations several weeks before you go. The grounds are lovely and the beach one of the best.

Yelp
This was our first trip to Hawaii and we were so excited to finally celebrate our Honeymoon. We had to put off our honeymoon due to Covid but we finally were able to celebrate it. We booked The Aston at the Whaler hotel through Costco and here are my honest opinions. Here are some cons: - After paying extra for an ocean view our view was more of the shopping center beneath us with the ocean view in the corner of our balcony. - The shower didn't have a door so water got everywhere on the floor outside of the shower. -The shower head itself had a lot of hard water build up and sprayed water everywhere. - We got ants! On the twelfth floor! They where coming out of the outlet where my wife plugged her electronics in, and the ants made their way onto her night stand.(They just cleaned the room and said it was fine, that they weren't going to move us.) - The location of the hotel is far away from most of the excursions we had. We constantly had to drive at least 30-50 minutes for most of the popular towns and attractions. These are the pros to the Hotel: -You have plenty of amenities including a fridge ,stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and dishwasher. They also provide utensils, a sponge, soap and by the elevator lobby you have a washer and dryer. -The beach is beautiful! Probably one of the nicest we found on the island. We would definitely stay around this area again just in another hotel. -They provide towels for to take on excursions or to the beach. - The shack by the pool also gives out free beach chairs you can take onto the beach. Over all the island was beautiful and we had so much fun on our trip and excursions. We can't wait to come back and enjoy the beautiful culture and scenery Maui has to offer.

Yelp
We loved our stay here! We had a 2bdr suite, which had a wrap around lanai and an ocean front view. The decor and furnishings were lovely. The hotel is located on beautiful Kaanapali Beach, steps away from Whalers Village. It was convenient for shopping, dining and for the meeting point for sunset cruises and other attractions. There were only 2 downfalls. The first was the dirty, stained carpets. It took the lovely feel of the living room area down a few notches, having to see dirty carpets. Fortunately, the view from the wrap around windows were breathtaking and a definite distraction from anything else. The second was the rude counter woman who berated my husband for leaving the room and pool keys in the unit, when he checked out. Really? We paid $1000 a night and you are going to threaten us with $25 charges per plastic key cards? When my husband spoke up to her, she backed off and checked him out quickly. Other than that, it was a lovely stay and made our Maui experience wonderful!

Yelp
We have been coming to Maui 10+ years and have a timeshare at this property. The Whaler is very clean, professional staff, and perfectly located on Kaanapali Beach. I was disappointed that the waves were so large and the beach erosion hasn't been taken seriously. I called the mayor's office and was put on hold for over 10 minutes! I certainly hope someone helps save our beach because Victorino is NOT

Yelp
We stayed here back in 2019 but I just came across an old receipt while cleaning and remembered the great stay and experience that we had here. I believe I remember booking directly with the resort. Our room was on the top floor, spacious and beautiful with a balcony and awesome views of the ocean and mountains. All the staff were wonderful. Grounds are beautiful and well kept. Though there are no onsite stores or places to eat. The property sits next to the Whaler which is like a small mall/shopping center with lots of food options, gift shops and other stores.+ a boardwalk. . The beach was decent enough but just as I had previously read can be tough to enjoy due to high winds and blowing sand. There's a great area to walk to snorkel and maybe jump off some rocks or watch others jump. Location is also pretty local to many points of interest to drive to eat at and enjoy . Great area! Parking was hit and miss in the garage but there was always something in there or at the outside lot and a short walk. No problem at all. I recommend this property if visiting Maui and deciding Kaanapali is the area in which you'd. Like to stay. Oh and to top it off, we found in our refrigerator a complimentary bottle of wine and fresh fruit which we enjoyed. It was a nice

Yelp
I found paradise! This resort sits right on the banks of the Pacific. It's so beautiful here that it's difficult to find words to truly capture the essence of how lovely and relaxing it is here. The koi ponds, orchids, trees and birds make you feel as if you're in a whole different world. The roar of the blue ocean leaves you in an indescribable trance. We are in a 2 bathroom suite with a beautiful lanai. During the wee hours of the morning we chill on the lanai while drinking coffee and watching the birds often forgetting the time. A shout-out to Dexter and Mimi for their wonderful hospitality and outstanding service. I'm in paradise and it feels pretty darn good. We'll be back.

Yelp
This is our 4th time to Maui, our 2nd time at an Aston. The first was Kaanapali Shores. It was fabulous, but the fam wanted to be closer to the action, like shops and restaurants. The Whaler also has a much nicer beach. Our condo is freaking amazing. We rented through VRBO. #573 We make breakfast here every morning and have grilled out a couple times down at the BBQs. The sunsets here are glorious and the staff is outstanding. All the amenities are worth the price. We have truly enjoyed our stay. If you are doubting booking here, look no further. You will not be disappointed!!!

Shashank S.

Yelp
Stayed here for a week and the experience was good. We got the premium view studio that included kitchen, full size refrigerator, microwave, walk-in closet and an instant pot. The place was spacious, clean and had an amazing view. The cleaning staff was great, cleaned and vacuumed daily and paid attention to details while cleaning(although they had to be reminded to do the cleaning service). The staff was really friendly and helpful. The location is amazing and is right next to the beach, couldn't get any closer. The property had a swimming pool and jacuzzi too although the depth of swimming pool was a bit deeper than we are used to. We could watch the sunset right from our balcony. The property is very well maintained and next to a lot of fun activities and great food options. There is a beautiful koi pond with a small bridge and waterfall.

Jon B.

Yelp
Our unit in tower 1, Condo 1111 was simply amazing! The views were breathtaking and our unit was luxurious and super clean. Covid-19 protocols were diligently enforced. The check in process was hyper efficient, the amenities were on point, and we were located close to everything that Maui has to offer. Popular tours were either a few minutes away or an acceptable drive up the or down the coast! Well done here folks, well done. We will be back!

Yelp
The Whaler is a great place to stay in Kaanapali. Reasonably priced, great landscape, pool was clean and warm, hot tub was nice too. Right on the beach seems like just about every room has an ocean view. The staff is very helpful and pleasant, especially Cheri Smith, the concierge, who helped me book catamaran trips that pick you up and drop off right on the beach near the hotel. Plus discounts for snorkel gear at Auntie Snorkel, and restaurants in Lahaina, which was great. Had a great time and would definitely come back here again.

Joyce Z.

Yelp
Although I have stayed at the Hyatt, Westin, KBH 4 times, and Grand Wailea twice, Whaler is like my home. With 5 Whaler stays through Aston and 12 times as a time interval owner within the past 15 years I can speak about this property from both perspectives. Rooms/Housekeeping - When you rent through the Aston, it functions like a hotel which means daily housekeeping, amenities including pineapple in your fridge upon check in, etc.. When you are renting from an owner direct, you are renting their specific unit and I assume housekeeping schedule will depend on what is negotiated with them. As a time interval owner, you are staying at a specific unit at the same time each year unless you exchange and have only 1 mid-interval cleaning (after 7 days) during your stay. With the exception of the TIO units, décor of each unit is up to the individual owners that own that unit and therefore is not the same across the board. You have a choice of studio, 1 or 2 bedroom units all boasting a full kitchen and a lanai (garden view, ocean view, or oceanfront) Fees: Parking fees have now been replaced by resort fees which includes parking (currently $16 but will be increasing a dollar per year until it reaches $20 per day). Daily resort fees are more common than uncommon in Hawai`i and although it is just a simple pool vs. the more elaborate ones at some neighboring resorts, there are some nice amenities that has been added since per below and included in this fee that other resorts nickel and dime you for. Amenities: Parking, complimentary washer and dryer on each floor, free Tide Pods for wash, complimentary beach chairs to sit at your "front yard" Kaanapali Beach, handful of first come first serve cabanas at the pool and sundeck. Pool: Like I mentioned, simple pool so no water slides but if you enjoy the ocean, you won't even care. Restaurants: No restaurants on site but shorter walk to Whaler's Village next door to Leilani's, Hula Grill, and soon to come Monkeypod Kitchen, or simple fare at the food court including Joey's Kitchen, than it would be to walk through an extensive resort property to get to on site restaurants in some resorts. Walking distance to other restaurants at neighboring Kaanapali Resorts with the farthest (Hyatt) less than a mile away. Location, location, location - Kaanapali Beach is your front yard, Black Rock, less than 5 min walk away for snorkeling. If you are looking for drink and food service at the pool or slides, etc., this is probably not the place for you. Otherwise, welcome to your home away from home!! Note: Currently lobby is under construction until mid-Dec with improvement projects planned over time to keep this a first class condo so just ask before booking if any construction is planned and make sure that your unit is away from construction noise.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed in room 561 (studio with ocean view) facing Whaler's Village. It was nicely kept and we didn't have a problem with this room at all. The ocean view was beautiful. During our stay, there was a power outage for about 12 hours due to a high voltage short circuit at a substation nearby. The staff was hospitable. We contacted them ahead of time if we could check in early. They assisted with the request without any hesitation. The beach is right off the hotel. Whaler's Village is directly next door of walking distance of 3-5 minutes..if even that. There is a full kitchen with appliances (dishwasher, fridge and freezer) along with utensils, plates, mugs/cups, etc., on site laundry on every floor, dining room, TV, DVD player with a few movies, and a full bathroom with a closet to hang your clothes. On the morning of the power outage, coffee was running low and to make up for it, the front counter staff even gave us whipped cream for our coffee which we appreciated. Something as simple as that made our morning. Housekeeping isn't an everyday thing at this place so you must clean up after yourselves. We were told that housekeeping comes by on the 5th day of your stay. They request that you separate your trash and recyclables. Aside from the cost of the room, they also charge an amenity fee at the end of your stay. Ours costed $217.40 for 5 days. Overall, our stay was pleasant.

Thalia H.

Yelp
we got a condominium suite and love it! its modern kitchen includes provided plates, cups, a blender, coffee maker, silverware and more! seconds from the beach and pool, the staff are all so welcoming and sweet. lots of privacy feels like home!

Zahra M.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at The Whaler this past week for our babymoon! Although we did have a rough start, Terry completely turned it around and our experience was beyond incredible!! Our room, the view, and the pool were all spectacular!! Thank you again, Terry for making our stay the absolute best!

AnnMarie N.

Yelp
We had a beautiful vacation in August of 22, and we re-booked the same unit in November for August 2023. The Whaler cancelled our visit 30 days before our August visit. 30 days. We had an oceanfront unit, you want to tell me where I can get another oceanfront unit with six weeks out? The Whaler apologized, okay, then they tried to stick us in a similar unit overlooking the parking garage at the Whaler Village. Yeah, not happening, they could not even give me a give certificate to a local restaurant to alleviate the anxiety and stress their callous decision affected our family, we had family members flying in from all over the country. Save yourself some grief and don't ever book directly trough the Aston at the Whaler. Also I did follow up with the General Manger a few weeks ago and she was still "working out something for us". Fortunately I was able to book a similar unit, not ocean front, at a nearby resort, so I am hopeful that will work out. I am very disappointed with the situation at the Whaler and would really caution anyone against booking there, after our experience.

Reviewer R.

Yelp
booked premium condo with ocean view, what we got is worst condo, they can't even give clean room to the guest, dirty carpet, dirty window screen, very old tv, and found cockroaches also.

Mark O.

Yelp
The Whaler, one of the first properties at the Kā'anapali Beach Resort, is as beautiful and luxurious as ever. Located right on Kā'anapali Beach, next to the popular Whaler Village shopping complex, The Whaler offers spectacular views of the beach, resort, PGA Golf Course and Lahainatown in the distance. The grounds are well keep and the tennis courts were recently redone. This highrise complex also provides guests with a fabulous central location at the resort within easy walking distance of golf, shopping, restaurants, bars and nearby high-end hotels and vacation homes. Aston, one of the oldest, most-respected hotel owner and hospitality management groups in Hawai'i manage the property and most of the available rooms and vacation rentals here.

Malissa Y.

Yelp
The property itself is in a good location and maintained nicely outside. However, the room we were in was dirty. Which is maintained by the Aston. They absolutely need to get rid of some of the furniture as it just makes the room look even dirty. At least wipe down to get rid of any dusty. Not sure how they are passing Covid19 regulations, when the rooms can't even be dust free. For the price we paid it was not worth it and wish I did more research. We originally wanted a place with a kitchen, since our stay was gonna be 2 weeks. We should have stayed elsewhere. This is more like a 3 star hotel not a 4 or 5.

Pam S.

Yelp
This hotel was perfect for our first visit to Hawaii. We had an ocean view room on the 12th floor. We had a full size kitchen. We had a walk-in closet. Their washers and dryers were free. The staff was wonderful. The pool was great. We could walk right down to the ocean. Whalers village was close. Made our trip to Maui perfect. We will be back.

Jay S.

Yelp
The WORST type of accommodation you can choose to stay at while in Maui. From the moment we got to our room, we had issues with the door lock not working properly which was brushed off with a "go try again". The entire unit was INFESTED with ants from the kitchen to the bed area. We informed management multiple times, Terry Dowsett the manager 100% lied to us our face and said she had another room she would be placing us in, and that it would be ready when we arrived back from our day trip to Hana. Once we returned, the evening front desk manager claimed they could not give us another room and that they "sprayed the room for insects and changed the sheets" and gave us a 136 dollar credit (a joke). We went up to the room to see it and the sheets were not changed at all still ants crawling on the pillows, bedding, and nightstand. On top of all this the towels were completely ragged and stained as if they are multiple years old and worn, nothing you would imagine from a 5 star resort. We requested new ones and the same issue was apparent with those as well. For the sake of our vacation I reserved a hotel at this point at the Westin which is right next door, our experience instantly changed. For $300-400 a night you would at minimum expect a clean, insect free space with decent towels and quality amenities space. The owners of these units are a joke and the management is even worse. This is not a 5 star resort, please don't ruin your vacation like they have ours. Also be sure to pay attention to how you're treated when issues arise, I realize I should have left this abhorrent place day 1 with the poor customer service we received. See the photos I am 100% writing this review truthfully and honestly. I know their rebuttle to this review will be a typical robotic customer service message. Rest assure the other reviewers here are either paid for or written by the resort as there's no way their reviews match the experience we had.

Joe P.

Yelp
Love this bottom corner floor unit ...I would not disclose # cause we're going to "rent" it again very soon... sorry.

Verismo V.

Yelp
Pros: location, close to restaurants and shops. Great staff service by the pool. Super friendly and extremely helpful. Cons: the front desk staff. Room quality varies greatly. Terrible internet connection. Overall experience in Hawaii is always wonderful but don't take credit for the beach and your amazing poolside staff and be jerks at the front desk. We've been here several times for the location and front desk staff experience is always unfriendly. There's always some issue with units. The most recent trip was met with a problem in the two bedroom unit (flooding) that made the check in become extremely delayed and changing the reservation to two rooms. The manager was stressed out trying hard to be accommodating with the situation. During the hours long wait, (we left to hang out at a restaurant and other places for 4 hours but walked back to check up a few times) the front desk staff was short and unfriendly. They act as if the guests are chores because that's what it is to them. ‍ The guests are just being guests. Try being courteous and warm. Isn't that in the job description? Also, teens and children are also your guests, please treat them with respect, the one Mahalo does not cut the coldness you provided for the last few minutes. Due to Covid, there was no cleaning service, when taking the paper request to the front desk, I was met with 'we don't take this after 2. Well, it states by 3 pm on the sheet. Besides, what are you saying? I can't have a towel and soap? When leaving dirty towels in a bag by the door as instructed, it was never picked up for 4 days. We saw many people washing their towels themselves in this trip. Rooms vary greatly, some are beautiful and perfect, and others are worse than a walk in hotel with fluorescent lights and linoleum peeling off. You won't feel it's worth the $400+ in those units. It is just luck what kind of rooms you get. People do understand that things happen and providing a friendly and warm service at arrival and departure would go such a long way for the whaler.

Yelp
Room 1160 a perfect stay! Location- Cannot be beat in the heart of Kaanapali right next door to the Whalers shopping and dining. A 10 min drive to Lahaina. Right on the beach and perfect walk to Blackrock. Room- We has a perfect 1 bedroom 2 bath condo with full kitchen. We were in tower 2 with great views of the mountains and ocean perfect to see both sunrise and sunset. Full kitchen well worth it as we made breakfast and lunch. We are used to our 75 inch TV so the little 32 inch ( I think) tv looked tiny but we rarely watched any tv while there. Amenities- This is not a huge resort so if that is what you want this is not it. The pool is big enough to not be crowded. Ocean steps away. Free beach chair if you want. Tennis courts if you want. Gym was not that great. Hidden downstairs in the basement of tower 1 had basic equipment but not the most motivating space. Price- Do your homework. Homes are listed on Air BB you can also book through Aston, book directly with owners. I found my listing on Air BB but tracked the home back to the rental management company and booked directly with them. Parking- FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Resort Fee A modest $25 a day. Lobby is like a hotel and staffed 24/7. Morning coffee and tea and afternoon iced teal in lobby. Loved this place so laid back and relaxing. Perfect for families.

Bridgette R.

Yelp
Super happy I chose this place for my spring break vacation. Expectations were super exceeded. The property is beautiful. Our condo (#463) on the left tower was perfect. The unit is well maintained and suited for our needs. Made a Costco run and were incredibly happy to see that the kitchenette was fully equipped. Staff is friendly and professional. BBQ grills and laundry facilities are so nice to have access. I just want to tell everyone about this beautiful place in Maui and thank the property owner, staff and management for a wonderful stay. Not to mention it's oceanfront and located next to Whaler's Village shopping area. Far better than my previous visit here at the Marriott Ocean Club. My family is super delighted.

Maria R.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The scenery was beautiful and that restaurant in the hotel are amazing. I will definitely stay here again. If you're not sure were to go make sure you stop in front and talk to front desk person. We did A helicopter ride and they made sure we set up front in the helicopter. All I can say wow. They have a beautiful view of the beach. I can't wait to go again.

Kevin B.

Yelp
Gina the manager at the front desk was fabulous. There was a mixup with my reservation and she went above and beyond to handle the issue professionally and quickly. Can't say enough good things about her. Thank you Gina!

Justin H.

Yelp
For the price, this place is quite the deal! Clean and spacious with plenty of amenities, friendly staff, well kept grounds, and you can't beat the awesome location right next to Whaler's Village. The pool area was a bit underwhelming and the high fence/bushes blocked any view of the ocean/beach but it sufficed. Grab a complimentary ice tea from the lobby or pool and enjoy!

Steven R.

Yelp
Located in the heart of Kaanapali Beach, this resort has a perfect Maui laid back vibe. There are the usual name brand high end resorts along this stretch of beach, but the feeling here is more relaxed. Walking distance along beach to Black Rock for snorkeling and next to Whaler Village for shopping and dining. Units have VERY large lanais and facility has an outstanding fitness room as well as spa treatments. The two resort towers are closer to the beach and pool than most resorts, so it's an easy walk back to elevator if you happen to forget something in your room. Also, free washer & dryer on every floor (we had them in our unit... added bonus) . Complimentary tropical iced tea and fruit flavored water in lobby as well as poolside. Fully staffed concierge service (Cheri is WONDERFUL) and great bell captains as well to assist with luggage (Fred was outstanding). I highly recommend The Whaler as a vacation destination. We've stayed here twice and would definitely come back..

Yelp
This property is well maintained, clean and absolutely beautiful! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the exceptionally friendly staff. The beach chairs are free which is a huge plus. They have a large Koi pond where they feed them at 8:30am. The room is very large and comes equipped with a coffee pot, filters and all utensils you may need. Another perk is the free laundry on site. We will be using that before we head home. This place is a 10/10!!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay here but there are a few things I would change. First off our room was really old and outdated. I thought that was the just the norm but my sister and her family stayed in a different t room in the opposite building. Her room was completely remodeled and unbelievably nice. It was disappointing knowing that there were better rooms and we didn't have an opportunity to stay in one. We tried to switch but there was nothing available. Secondly, we have a 2 year old and asked for a crib. They provided a pack and play and when we went to put our daughter to bed the first night there was a cockroach crawling on it. Lastly, they have a system for beach towels that's kind of annoying. Upon check in they give you 1 towel card per person. You have to turn in your card to get a towel and return the towel to get your card back. If you lose your card or towel you get charged. Only 1 towel per person. I've never stayed somewhere that was so stingy with towels. These things didn't ruin my trip but I'd probably try a difference place next time.

Yelp
I've been to Maui 3 times, and I've stayed at The Whaler 3 times. I like it, but it's no Grand Wailea...if you know what I mean. No? Trust me. This bad boy was built in the 70s (the condos originally sold for 50-70k, my mom keeps reminding me), and still looks it on the outside. The rooms vary depending if you stay in an owner owned one or a Whaler owned one. I've stayed in both. It is cool how the kitchen is stocked with supplies and the bed and bathrooms have extra sheets, pillows, blankets, and towels. But it's also kinda weird staying in someone else's place- someone you don't know, with pictures of their grandkids all over the place. We stayed there for a week in September this year. They are renovating the pool and garden/koi pond area. I watched them destroy the koi pond one morning with a jack hammering tractor. Pretty cool actually! See pic for destruction! This most recent trip we had two different condos for an ass load of fam. One on the 11th floor and one on the 12th (on the corner). The 12th floor one had an AMAZING view of Kaanapali Beach! I love how The Whaler is right on one of the most beautiful beaches on Maui. Great snorkeling too. I saw a turtle on two different occasions!! Stay here (when the pool and jacuzzi are done) and you won't regret it.

Yelp
We rented unit 973, a 2 bedroom, through VRBO and we were not disappointed. I was a bit apprehensive because you just never know if what you see in the pictures is an accurate representation of what the place really looks like. This was one of those times where we were pleasantly surprised. It was far bigger than we were expecting with just about the largest lanai on this side of Kaanapali beach. The unit is in Tower II, right next to Whaler Village and the lanai is located directly above the shops. This was not a problem at all. The noise was hardly noticeable on the 9th floor and the view was still gorgeous. The unit itself is around 1900 sq ft and had a full kitchen, as do all the 2 bedroom units here. It's island decor is just enough, and doesn't seem overdone. Although this is someone's private condo, it didn't feel awkward staying here as they keep the furnishings to a minimum, and didn't have personal pictures or items left behind. The building itself is a bit older, but they do a fantastic job of maintaining the grounds and the units. My only wish was that the pool was a bit bigger. It's a standard rectangular shaped pool with a nice water fall feature, but not little kid friendly, and not a very spacious poolside. A very minor gripe, since the beach is but a few steps away. The location was nothing short of perfect with the beach just steps away and Lahaina a short 5 minute drive away. It really is the "best location for the price". I dealt with the owner personally, and he was a pleasure to work with. The rates are highly competitive and are something of a bargain considering the space you get. The worst part was having to leave.

Yelp
Pros: - Location - Close to whalers village - Ocean view - Property and common areas are well maintained. - Free parking **That is about it. Cons: - Sub par customer service. We always felt like we were burdening the staff by asking for anything. Perfect example, we went to the hotel before check in. The initial woman who helped us was kind. She let us know the room wasn't ready and asked for us to come back at check-in at 4 pm. We came back at 3:45 pm and I asked a gentleman, who works at the front desk, regarding the status of our room. He checked and said it wasn't ready. He immediately got an attitude and said that "check-in" isn't technically until 4 pm and that hopefully it would be ready by then. I was very polite and kind during the entire process so I am not certain where the attitude came from. He was just one of many to act like the resort was somehow doing us a favor by letting us pay to stay in their dirty, poorly maintained rooms. I will never stay here again and this is the number one reason why. - Rooms was not cleaned well and were quite frankly filthy. - Dust covering the room and visible dirt all over. - Stained furniture and carpeting. - Found someone's used floss pick on the carpet. - Found old pistachio shells next to some of the furniture. - Bugs in the room. - Poorly maintained room - cabinet door under the sink literally fell off after simply opening and closing. Bottom line, it was an old room with very visibly used and worn out furniture. These are NOT typical hotel rooms. These are privately owned units that are supposed to be maintained through the hotel. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. It is a complete crapshoot on what kind of room you will get and highly likely that you will not get the customer service or common courtesy you deserve when does spending that kind of money.

Yelp
The Whaler is the place to go if you want beautiful views right on Kaanapali Beach. Whaler's Village is located right next door with excellent shopping. There are a few restaurants within walking distance my favorite being Leilani's! Perfect for beachside dining and a strong Mai Tai. For snorkeling, black rock is a quick walk down the beach. The best thing about the Whaler is that full kitchens are in each unit and BBQ grills down stairs. This is great because eating out every night can get quite expensive. We stop at Costco and/or Safeway grab the essentials and enjoy family BBQs down by the beach. The pool is nothing fancy but it has been recently redone and the hot tub is quite nice in the evenings. The ocean is right there so who really cares about any fancy water slides. The gym is small but definitely will get the job done. Even my bodybuilder fiancée can use the gym. The dry sauna is great after a quick workout. I recommend going through a rental by owner. This way you will know exactly what unit you're getting and what it looks like inside.

Yelp
Great location in the heart of Kaanapali! Just a short hop over to Lahaina! The resort itself is beautiful with koi ponds in the middle and a short walk to the pool/hot tub/beach. The views are outstanding if you're on the balcony, no big trees in the way of our sunset! They had everything you could ask for, grills, work out room, spas, free parking, and helpful front desk staff! We will definitely be staying here again!

Yelp
We've been staying here every year since 2007 and love it! The location is perfect and gorgeous! They offer spacious condos on a gorgeous beach. The rooms are ocean or garden views. We love the ocean view or ocean front since the beach is so amazing and the balconies are spacious. The property is beach front and the garden views are also beautiful with the property and koi pond. We worked with Voltaire Marave and he put us in a gorgeous 1-Bedroom, 2 Bath Ocean View Premium unit. Some units are more updated than others. I'd recommend calling the Whaler for availability. They are very helpful. The beach is swimmable, it's nearby golf courses and Lahaina. There is a beautiful beach front to walk with amazing views. The gym was updated this year during the renovation and it has everything you need. The pool is nice. The Whaler features a nice spa. Some of the units do not have washing machines but there is laundry available on the floors. The kitchens are fully stocked with everything you need. There are also nice grills to use on the property. The is no onsite restaurant but there are plenty nearby in both directions. The Whaler is next to the Whaler Village (everything from Louis Vuitton, Lululemon, Sephora, ABC store, lots of shopping). They are opening a Monkeypod in the Whaler Village (there is one in Wailea and it's amazing). Lelaini's is our favorite on the beach. The Whaler staff is always helpful and customer-focused and have been in all of our previous experiences. They are friendly and helpful. Mahalo!

Yelp
This has been the only place I have stayed in Maui. I may be a little biased, since my boyfriend's family owns a condo here, and whenever we go it's as close to a free vacation as it gets! I love that it is a condo, and not a hotel. You can make your own meals when you get tired of going out, which we normally always do for breakfast. All of the units come with everything you need, from utensils, to towels, to even some movies and books to read at the beach. The best part about the Whaler is its location. Steps away from the beach, and a short walk to Black Rock, and a 5 minute drive to Lahaina.

Yelp
My family had a burger and fries here that was awful, as was the price and service. Skip this one and just go one hotel up or down.

Yelp
The Whalers is a great place to stay when visiting Maui. Located on Kaanapali Beach, the condo resort is located right next to Whaler's Village and within walking distance from good dining options. The staff was very nice and friendly. If you are lucky, you will be placed in a newly remodeled unit. We booked a studio ocean view room and it had a great view. The only interesting thing was that the room had a murphy (pull-down) bed which I was not expecting. It wasn't a bad thing because it was still comfy and we didn't spend much time in the room. I would've liked a bigger tv in the room, but we're in Maui, who needs to watch tv anyways.

Yelp
A total solid operation on Ka'anapali. Not your St. Regis or Four Seasons (ah the memories) but really solid, affordable, maybe...dare I say, pedestrian accommodation on the Ka'anapali beach stretch. We spent two weeks in a lovely 3rd floor studio glancing views over the beautiful garden and over to the black rock. The room was really perfect for us. We typically spend little time in our rooms on Ka'anapali preferring to relax oceanside, poolside or barside with forays back to the room for essentials. Staff were adequately responsive to requests but kinda oddly defensive in adversity. One afternoon we found our room door blocked open as if housekeeping had visited and forgot to close the door. After a quick search for valuables finding all accounted for, we notified front desk staff. What ensued was a kinda keystone cops antic of denial, refusal and other departmental insufficiencies hard to describe. All we wanted to hear was, " OMG we're so sorry, is everything okay? That will never happen again." Suffice to say, imagine everything opposite and short of that kind of reassurance mixed in with some front desk indifference and an insistence by security department to change the locks. Odd antics all around. Apart from that little hiccup the room was nice, full kitchen, king bed, sleeper sofa, nice size lana'i. Others have said it and its worth mentioning again, Each apartment is different and typically privately owned and decorated. We booked direct thru Aston and weren't disappointed. Your mileage may vary. Oh, also be aware there is a daily charge for parking and fees, taxes, etc. can be around 50-75 bux per day. Prolly want to figure that into your budget if you're staying couple of weeks or more.

Yelp
We love the Whaler. I first started coming here with my family when I was just 14 years old and my parents bought three of the condos. They sold them in the mid-nineties so I hadn't been here for about 15 years, then I started bringing my own family here in 2012 when I was 50 years old. We stayed in an oceanfront unit and it was the perfect accommodation for us. We returned in 2015 and stayed in the same unit and loved it even more. We just returned from a 9 day trip there where we stayed in #402 (Aston unit) and it was amazing. Its the perfect balance of ocean, sun, and beach. With the young kids, we ate in just about every evening while watching the sunset. I would highly recommend this accommodation, especially if you have kids. We will be returning there in the near future.

Yelp
Overall had a good experience here and would stay here again. We were upgraded from a "garden-view" to an "ocean view" room in Tower 2 and honestly either room would have been fine. Key notes: - Daily parking is free but there is a resort fee of $16/day - Beach front/Right beside the Whalers Village for easy access to shops & food - Little stand beside the pool where you can rent a variety of things for an additional cost (umbrellas, coolers, chairs, boards, ect) - Washer/dryer on every floor and and you can get 2 free tide pods per room per day from the front desk - They give you towel cards during your stay which you can exchange for towels for the beach - Our room had a small kitchen area which was nice, although our microwave didn't work on our last day. They also have a coffee maker in the room and tons of utensils/pots/pans. - They have carts in the underground garage you can use to unload things from your car. - No on site restaurant or poolside drinks/service, but it didn't really matter to us since Whalers Village is right beside the hotel. If I had to complain it would be: - When reserving on Hotels.com our room was described, one king or queen bed AND a sofa bed. Our sofa was a regular sofa, which was a bit disappointing, but we managed. - The pool starts at 4' so not so kid friendly unless they just stay on the steps Staff was friendly, room was spacious and clean, and didn't have any issues with construction noise. If we came back to Maui we would stay here again just because location was great, and the rooms were more affordable than other options in the same location.

Yelp
Great place to stay. I been here twice and LOVE it. I stayed one of condo with ocean front view with kitchen & patio. Man.... View was breath taking. I shall return soon... Hana

Yelp
The lobby is beautiful. The views are beautiful. The pool was ok, hot tub was great. The beach is fantastic. Get there before 9am if you want to rent chairs. The location is great, next to whalers village. The condo itself is another story. The carpet was disgusting, the room with the toilet and bathtub was gross. Peeling paint, moldy grout, some type of drop ceiling that isn't even attached to the wall. With the right breeze, I thought the ceiling was going to blow away. There was a walk in closet and the shelves were hung crooked. Kitchen was cute, but all appliances were cheap and barely worked (toaster, blender). There were 2 bar stools and one was broken. The staff was very friendly. There is no room service or store to buy a water or chips. There is free underground parking.

Yelp
I would give this place 5 stars but we had issues with housekeeping, which I'll get to. We arrived early to Maui so we figured our room wouldn't be ready. We tried to check in early and we were right, our room wasn't ready. But we were offered an upgrade for a decent price for a way better room! Score! Marisa took good care of us and check in was a breeze! We upgraded to one of the rooms that has the bedroom, plus living room and the 2 bathrooms with a pull down bed. Loved it and we had a great view! The hotel is in a great location with close proximity to shopping, dining and the beach. Only a 3-5 minute drive to Lahaina too. Our room was clean every day and we loved the fresh pineapple in the fridge every day. Everything was almost perfect... But there are no ice machines or water stations in either tower. We had left a note for more ice- never got it. Left a note for more water- never got it Left a note saying the air conditioner was making LOUD sounds- nothing was done. Two nights in a row I had to sleep in a room with a screaming, screeching air conditioner. I eventually had to turn it off each night just so i could sleep, but then I was too hot. Other than that, We really did enjoy our stay and would definitely stay again in the future.
