Astor Private Hotel

We had the most delightful stay for two nights at the Astor Hotel and this will now be our home away from home in Hobart. The hosts, Tildy and Neil, were lovely (warm, chatty and funny) which made us feel so welcome and comfortable immediately upon arrival. The hotel is so beautiful, character filled, with a period feel sitting the historic beauty of the deco building. It is immaculately clean, tidy and comfortable. It is so well located in the central part of Hobart with lots of great restaurants, bars and cafes nearby. I recommend you call or email to book directly with them. We had the pleasure of staying at the Astor Hotel for two nights, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The hotel exudes a stunning heritage charm, reminiscent of The Chateau at Tongariro National Park, though on a more intimate scale. Its vintage features offer a refreshing contrast to the abundance of modern hotels today, making it feel like stepping into a beautifully preserved piece of history. As you ascend the staircase to the reception, you're greeted with the warmest and most genuine welcome we've ever experienced. The staff were absolutely incredible—friendly, personable, and full of humor that kept us smiling throughout our stay. Their exceptional hospitality set the tone for the entire visit. Our room was bright, airy, and perfectly showcased the hotel’s heritage character. Every detail was thoughtfully maintained, and the cleanliness was impeccable. We especially adored the intricate tile work in the bathroom and the rich red vintage carpet, which added to the timeless charm. Staying at the Astor Hotel was the highlight of our trip and truly made our visit extraordinary. The exceptional staff and the enchanting atmosphere have left a lasting impression on us, and we can’t wait to return. This is a place we’ll treasure and recommend wholeheartedly.

I spent my first solo trip to Hobart at the Astor Hotel. Tildy and Neil made me feel so welcome. Part of the thing that makes the place great is their hospitality. I booked a double room with a shared bathroom and it was perfect for what I needed. I am obsessed with the decor. Neil said this was owing to Tildy’s skills, and it shows. You can tell she’s put her love and thought into how the place is styled. Highly recommend for solo female travellers.

We stayed quite a while ago but I was just going through photos and realised I forgot to do a review. We loved this hotel. We stayed at 2 hotels in Hobart. First a traditional chain hotel then the Astor. We enjoyed the Astor so much more so much charm and character.

We absolutely adored our stay at The Astor, which is imbued with a warmth and charm that clearly originates directly from wonderful hosts Tilde and Neil. Not only is the hotel beautiful and character-filled, but truly every aspect of your stay is like stumbling upon a treasure trove - from chats with Tilde and Neil, to the excellent service and rooms, fantastic location and the endlessly captivating artworks. We will definitely be back again and couldn't recommend it highly enough!

The Astor is a perfectly maintained blast from the past. It's like staying in a museum of a last century guest house. Yet it is clean, fresh and functional. The proprietors are extremely welcoming and helpful. It is not a standard cookie cutter hotel, but it put a smile on my face everytime I walked in!

Highly recommend. Classic old style hotel with updated ensuite rooms available at exceptionally reasonable tariff. Hosts were welcoming, naturally friendly and easy going. Room was impeccably clean and comfortable. Central city location with the celebrated Astor Restaurant on the ground floor.

Loved this little place EST in the twenties. We took a room with shower, & shared toilet. Great room with high bed & kettle, bathrooms nice & clean. Free milk for your tea in the lounge with a TV and water filter. Free breakfast with room @only $105 was a bargain. Room had good heater & the bed was comfy & warm. The highlight for us was manager Tildy who kept us entertained with her humorous Hobart history, and interesting conversation. We will definitely be back. Do not hestitate to stay here if you're in Hobart!! Wouldn't change a thing.
