Astor Private Hotel

We stayed here twice in April. The owners run the hotel and are so warm and friendly. It is great value for money. It’s clean, warm and comfortable. Book directly by phoning Tildy, this is the best for them as they are trying to keep their accommodation affordable and they don’t loose money in booking fees. The hotel lounge and dining are decorated with such vintage flair .. we loved it all!

This is a hidden gem. Staying here is like travelling in time to a more fabulous time. Every corner has special art work and delicate china. Gorgeous treats from a decident time when we dressed in fur and arrived in Bentleys. Tildy and Neil are the most welcoming hosts that shared us of their love of this beautiful, art deco building. We only want to stay at the Astor Hotel when we visit Hobart. We recommend this spot if you want a truly comfortable, out if this world experience. Thank you!!!!

I stayed at the Astor for a good part of a week in a room with an ensuite. The Hotel is run by the most amazing Tilde and the Astor oozes ambiance with her eclectic style and interior decor. The Astor has many amazing original features. Do no expect a five star hotel. The place is clean, relatively comfortable and excellent value in a prime central location in Hobart - walking distance to the CBD, docks and Salamanca Markets. People staying here actually chat to each other like a little family. I would recommend the Astor to anyone who likes old world charm and very interesting owners and guests.

I loved staying here , it’s full of old world charm. Run by Tildy and Neil, an awesome team. It’s lovely and comfy, clean and reasonably priced and in the best position in Hobart for walking everywhere. I highly recommend The Astor Private Hotel. Request a room at the back, they are quieter.

What an absolute gem in a prime position in Hobart. The hotel has a period charm and is filled with beautiful antiques. It is immaculately clean and very comfortable. Tiley and Neil are delightful hosts. I can’t wait to visit again.

Old world comfort and charm in a central CBD location. Creatively decorated by the lovely couple who run the Astor - great characters ready to entertain guests with humour, local knowledge and stories. Immaculately clean rooms and bathrooms and a filling breakfast. Perfect place to relax after a bushwalking trip.

We had the most delightful stay for two nights at the Astor Hotel and this will now be our home away from home in Hobart. The hosts, Tildy and Neil, were lovely (warm, chatty and funny) which made us feel so welcome and comfortable immediately upon arrival. The hotel is so beautiful, character filled, with a period feel sitting the historic beauty of the deco building. It is immaculately clean, tidy and comfortable. It is so well located in the central part of Hobart with lots of great restaurants, bars and cafes nearby. I recommend you call or email to book directly with them. We had the pleasure of staying at the Astor Hotel for two nights, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The hotel exudes a stunning heritage charm, reminiscent of The Chateau at Tongariro National Park, though on a more intimate scale. Its vintage features offer a refreshing contrast to the abundance of modern hotels today, making it feel like stepping into a beautifully preserved piece of history. As you ascend the staircase to the reception, you're greeted with the warmest and most genuine welcome we've ever experienced. The staff were absolutely incredible—friendly, personable, and full of humor that kept us smiling throughout our stay. Their exceptional hospitality set the tone for the entire visit. Our room was bright, airy, and perfectly showcased the hotel’s heritage character. Every detail was thoughtfully maintained, and the cleanliness was impeccable. We especially adored the intricate tile work in the bathroom and the rich red vintage carpet, which added to the timeless charm. Staying at the Astor Hotel was the highlight of our trip and truly made our visit extraordinary. The exceptional staff and the enchanting atmosphere have left a lasting impression on us, and we can’t wait to return. This is a place we’ll treasure and recommend wholeheartedly.

Loved this little place EST in the twenties. We took a room with shower, & shared toilet. Great room with high bed & kettle, bathrooms nice & clean. Free milk for your tea in the lounge with a TV and water filter. Free breakfast with room @only $105 was a bargain. Room had good heater & the bed was comfy & warm. The highlight for us was manager Tildy who kept us entertained with her humorous Hobart history, and interesting conversation. We will definitely be back. Do not hestitate to stay here if you're in Hobart!! Wouldn't change a thing.
