Astor Victoria Hostel

Price and location, superb. The person at reception, with the mullet and painted nails, super welcoming and helpful, absolutely no negative comments about the staff and service. The beds are not the best in comfort and there isn't any privacy. There's no plugs near the bed or anything to make anyone feel comfortable and safe with their stuff, having to use a communal plug. No curtain in bed so everyone watches you sleep. But the WORST BY FAR problem is that toilets are nowhere to be seen. I stayed in the second floor and had to go to the 3rd floor to find a toilet, where I found 2 individual toilets, both engaged. Had to wait for 20+ minutes for people to get out of the toilet as they were doing god knows what there. No other toilets around. I think there were some in floor 2 but out of service. For very similar prices, there are much better hostels in London.

This isn't a bad hostel, but it certainly isn't a great one. The ONLY reason to stay here is location. It's located 10 minutes from Victoria station. The lounge is okay, not great. Kitchens (2 of em) are well stocked. They have very basic breakfast isn't worth the price. They have laundry...£4! Pounds wash and 1£ dry. The toilets are laughably small. Showers basic. There's only one set of plugs for the entire rooms, so people were hanging out in the lounge having to charge their devices! The beds honestly suck. Staff seemed to be hit or miss; some of them were good, and some were terrible. Like I said, not bad. But unless you're catching out at Victoria station, dont stay here.

My main choice for this hostel was its proximity to London Victoria for transfers due to flight schedule. The hostel is located in a nice area that has very good public transport links to main London sights. There is a small mall nearby the station. The hostel was clean and well-equipped with what the traveller needs. The staff was very, very helpful, kind and polite. The only complaints I can have is 1) the London weather but that is not the hostel's fault 2) the stairs, but that is unavoidable in older buildings.

I was profoundly impressed with my stay at Astor Victoria! The location is unbeatable, just a short walk from key attractions and easy access to public transportation. The staff went above and beyond to make the experience welcoming—they were friendly, helpful, and always approachable. The communal areas are vibrant and clean, with plenty of space to relax or meet fellow travelers.D rooms n beds are well maintained offering great value for the price. I particularly appreciated the thoughtful amenities, like secure lockers and a well-equipped kitchen, which made my stay convenient and enjoyable.

It was really good. I stayed there for one night. Their service was very gentle and warm. My room was also very quiet and clean. Everything i saw there was nothing i didn’t like. And the most important thing is the cost of the rooms were very cheap. So It's a good place to stay.

It’s in a very perfect location, no doubt. The toilet and bathroom are very neat. The room’s headroom is the issue especially for upper bed bunk. A question that beg for answer is, why have they refused to put on the heater in a very thick winter cold?

Excellent for economy & solo travel. All nice staffs & flexible management. All as pictures shown in website. Bed is clean, tidy & comfortable. Soft closing door & auto lock are perfect. Well equipped kitchen & dining area at lower ground level with big & bright windows. A whole wall size big screen & 2 big sofa at movie room. window of 4-bed female room facing main street, not busy traffic but not really quiet. only the sockets on the room table of the room.

Great location, staff team and atmosphere. Facilities are as expected of a Hostel environment. Any issues raised were dealt with effectively and I felt listened to. Big shout out to Hostel Staff Mani, Eleanor, Freya and Gisela.

Thieves! This hostel kept $184 of my money WITHOUT me setting foot in the place. They think they can keep reservation money when the person never got to stay there! Booking.com deleted my review stating conflict with their guidelines. Hmmm they have a conflict either way the truth!

Budget-friendly, convenient location, safe--all the things you need in a hostel. Stayed in a 6 bunk female room for a night and definitely would book again for a short stay. It's a lovely way to meet fellow travelers. You can purchase or rent anything from towels to laundry detergent. Free luggage storage on the day of check-in, but I think you'd have to pay for storing after check-out at 1000. The Astor Victoria team is fluent in at least Spanish and English. 3 stars for perfectly meeting expectations (:

staying at the astor victoria ruined our london experience. i am writing this review purely to warn you, with the best intentions, this place is the most disgusting, unsanitary, and creepy place you could possibly stay in london. first off, the photos are deceiving and heavily edited. what you see is NOT what you get. the bathrooms are moldy and smell worse than an outhouse. toilet paper was covered in gunk and the floor was always soaking wet and the showers were disgusting. 3/5 of the bathrooms were out of order during our stay and there was one toilet per two floors to begin with. the walls of our room had blood, bandaids, and the paint was chipping. it was so loud and it's impossible to open any of the doors without waking everyone up. you can't open the windows and the fan points towards the window because there was only one outlet so it was so hot and stuffy in the room. the "drinking water" came from a moldy faucet in the kitchen that was pretty gross. tons of creepy men staying here, watch out.

Astor Victoria was an overall good hostel during our one night in London. It's situated in a fairly quiet neighborhood that doesn't have a lot going on around it, so if you're looking for a more quiet stay, then this is a good spot to check out. My friend and I booked a 6-person mixed dorm on the top floor of the hostel. There are no elevators inside so if you are carrying a lot of luggage, be sure that you find a friend to help move your belongings. The rooms were clean and provided cubbies, lockers below the bed (personal lock required), and unfortunately maybe 1-2 outlets throughout the room. What's the bathroom situation like you may ask? There are individual toilets and shower stalls scattered throughout the floors, and you have access to any of them during your stay. They were clean and water pressure was decent. The lounge area has a giant flat-screen with Netflix seemingly rolling through the entire day. They have beanbags and couches for you to lounge around, but it felt a bit cramped and hot while we were there. So a pleasant stay indeed at Astor with the barebones amenities and accommodations you'd find in London.

The rooms have a vanity so you don't have to leave the room to brush your teeth. But watch the locks on the door. We were locked inside our room for quite awhile on New Year's Eve. Almost missed out on the celebrations. It's cozy and doable. Like any dormroom feel.

I had a fantastic stay here. Pretty close to city center. It only took one bus ride or one transfer to get to Trafalgar Square, or Picadelly Circus. Just one quick stop from Victoria Station! Location was fantastic. Staff were superb. Super friendly and very accommodation with every request or question I had. Free printing for your tickets! Which was extremely convenient and hassle free. Hearing is controlled in your room! Huge plus! I was never cold (visited in December). 1 pound donation for breakfast which was excellent. Cleanliness was alright. My linens had a few stains in them (prob stains they couldn't shout out from the wash) and the restroom floors looked and smelled a bit. But for the price I made due. Just make sure you bring flip flops!

Very dirty place. They never clean under the beds so was super dusty and dirty. The bathroom near to my room was extremely smelly, like rotten. So the firts day that i get there, they close it but never repair it, so the rotten smell was going into the bedroom. The bed are old and super thin. Impossible to sleep before 2.30am due the noise of party in the dining area, the staff is involved on that so..even if you tell them, the party will contiue. At 10am they close the dinning area for 1 hour, so if you want to wake up at 10 (because you are in vacations..) you can not go there and prepare breakfast for yourself. The hostel has 7 floors and NO ELEVATOR. It is horrible and in the website doesn't say anything about that. A booked a room and when i arrived that room was in the 7th floor..imagine that you have luggage also. If i new that in advance i wouldn't booked it. Also they have one socket per room, which is terrible uncomfortable nowadays with all the cellphone and computers that we use. The fisty day in mu check in, theg never told me about the rules of the hostel and the opening hours of the kitchen. Also they never told me about the different stairs and in how many parts the hostel is dived, so can happen that you will go up to the 7th floor but in the incorrect way of the house and you bed is in the othee 7th floor.. I wont come back, and if you chexk other people references, this hostel has the same problems and never did nothing about it. (The rooms are so dirty that every time that i was puttin my shoes on the floor under my bed, i will come full of dirt and dust everyday!)

I loved it here! It was my first time in a hostel and my experience was very positive! It felt like a college dorm and i loved it! Booking was easy through Hostels.com. No booking fee once you make an account and sign in. I only paid a deposit at time of booking. Be sure to confirm your reservation 24 hours in advance if you paid your deposit with a debit card or cash. I couldn't get through the phone line but I sent an email and received a confirmation. The hostel was easy to find. it was just down the street from Pimlico. Walk towards Top Curry (the chicken tikka masala was horrible)! There is also a pub right there! I didn't get to check it out but if was crowded everytime I walked by. The hostel is down a quite neighborhood among a really clean street. I walked home often during in the evenings and I was fine. The place had a young vibe to it. I booked my own room. I really liked it. It had a closet, a sink, and twin bed. It was clean and i slept well each night. There were plenty of bathrooms and showers. The place was really accommodating. It had free wifi, free breakfast (fresh rolls, cereal, jam, butter, coffee. & tea), no fee cash atm, board games, books, & so much more! There is a kitchen where you can cook your own food. there are plates. cakes, and utensils for you to use. There are even fridges for you to store your leftovers! There is also a laundry room downstairs past the kitchen but I did not get to use it. I paid $120 ish for 3 nights for a single. I highly recommend this hostel!

Pictures made this place look absolutely stunning and a great place to stay, but it was the complete opposite. It was not very clean and the pictures made it look like this spectacular hostel. Bathrooms were either out of order of dirty the whole time. Bedrooms stunk and showers were dirty too. They had mentioned online there would be a small breakfast but I did not realize that would just be toast, cereal and warm milk. 110% would not recommend. Also kind of far from things to do and staff was not very friendly at all.

From a review I did on another site: Astor Victoria does "hostel" better than all of the six hostels I stayed in when I was in Europe. Oh yeah it was pricey ($40/night), but that's the price one pays for living in the City of Westminster for five days. When I was first assigned the topmost room my jaw almost dropped since there were no elevators. Once I saw the views outside my window, I fell for it. I could see all the sights along the Thames including the Parliament and the Eye. The room was tip top clean though you sleep next to the sink (Europe is just weird with plumbing). Unlike the other places I stayed in, the showers were easy to operate though the water t..r....i....c...k....l.....ed, which I blame on the lack of pressure at this height. The Pimlico station is a couple of blocks down and the big Victoria station is about 3/4 mile the other way. Actually, the neighborhood is properly called Pimlico and its jammed with small hotels. It's the perfect place to hit all the main London spots and avoid excessive noise. As for the services, it was friendly. My one reservation is the security of your luggage since you throw it into a cramped closet with the others. There is one key for it.

Close to pimlico station, walking distance to victoria station and right in the centre of pimlico propper. nice little hostel and good for a few nights. lots of dvds and free breakfast i needed a place to crash as my "accomodation" had fallen through and booked a bed that day (the perils of long distance relationships) - good nights sleep and breakie and i was on my way... got me out of a jam and i thank them!

For the price, this place isn't bad. The staff is great and very friendly, but (like most others have said) the rooms are tiny and noisy so unless you get lucky with quiet roommates, you might not get much sleep (I did not). There weren't enough outlets in my room to charge everyone's phones, so I ended up down in the lounge area both nights when I would have much rather been sleeping. The location isn't bad; not much going on nearby but it's quiet and very close to the Pimlico underground station and Victoria rail/underground station.

So noisy! Good location but there was a party going on in the kitchen, right next door to our room, and they didn't kick the party goers out till after 5am at which I heard the receptionist say "You aren't staying in this hostel, so it's time for you to leave". It was after 5 in the morning! They could have done this a little earlier! The room itself was big and there was a bathroom in the room. However, there were not enough showers. Overall, I would prefer to stay elsewhere next time I am in London.

Rooms are kinda noisy, beds are a bit uncomfortable but at least they are clean.... Wifi didn't work, (Couldn't connect to it) Showers weren't very clean, there was hair... Breakfast was "meh"... Not enough places to charge your phone. The best thing of the hostel was the receptionist, she was good-looking and kind.

Clean rooms, friendly staff, cheap and cheerful. Great as a base to explore London and the fantastic sights such as the london eye, thames, big ben etc.. However - i agree with the other reviewer about the doors being noisy!!! Hard to creep around and be quiet!

So... overall it's been nice but of course on my last night I come back to see that my pajamas have been moved. Not wanting to cause a scene I went to reception to see what happened. Woman says "my bad. I must have moved then while I cleaned" I ask what I should do since there are a strangers pajamas on my bed she said just move them. So I do this and pack my bags since I'm leaving early in the morning. Then at midnight a man comes in, wakes everyone and asks who I am. He's got no clue who should be where because there are too many name tags all over and of course mine fell off days ago since the holders are all broken. He ended up having to remake 2 beds and still doesn't seem to know where everyone belongs. Not cool Astor Victoria. Not cool.

Checked in to a private room for about £100 a night and the room came with one bunk bed, an electrical strip and a sink, that was about it. Both mornings we were woken by a fire alarm at 5:30 AM. After it went off 3 times, we went to the front desk and she said it was because people were going on the fire escape to smoke. She didn't resolve the issue or provide any reassurance that it would stop (went off 2 more times before we checked out at 7am due to not being able to sleep). Do not recommend for anyone looking above the most basic essentials (wifi does not work) or sleep.

Free wifi Breakfast for donation. Bathrooms and showers are private. The staff was very helpful, and always friendly. Bathrooms were sometimes not working. I would stay here again.

Overall a good hostel. The rooms were a little small and lacked space for lots of luggage. There were under the bed bins that were very noisy to open and close and didn't hold a lot. There were limited outlets in each room. The bathrooms were ok but not the nicest I've been in. The staff was very pleasant and helpful.

If you are looking for a relatively economical place to stay while visiting London (have to say relatively this is London we are talking about), Astor Victoria is a good choice. - Excellent location: Located in Westminster... easy walk to many tourist attractions (you can save money by not using the tube) and the Victoria station (comes in handy if you want to take a day trip around England or if you are flying in from Gatwick Airport...it's only a 30 min train ride and has trains leaving every 15 mins). - Friendly, helpful staff - Free breakfast: Don't expect a gourmet breakfast at a hostel, but they had a variety of cereals, freshly baked bread with jams or peanut butter, tea, and coffee. It was enough to keep me satisfied until noon. They also have several refrigerators and 2 kitchens if you prefer to do your own thing and be a little more fancy. - Rooms: The beds were comfortable, the rooms and bathrooms were clean, and while there are always people to talk to (or party with) downstairs, my room was very quiet when I wanted to get some sleep. Also the views from the upper floors were pretty cool to wake up to in the mornings. - Facilities: If you forgot a few things or are looking for entertainment, they have a lot to offer. They have free books and DVD's to borrow, as well as towels, hair dryers, locks, and power adaptors to rent for free (they may have more but that's all I asked about). So why only 4 stars? As some other reviews have mentioned, the internet is really slow and sketchy. I was able to use it for what I needed, but it was a little frustrating at times. Overall I was happy with my experience and would stay there again.

Stayed here on a trip in feb o9. if you can consider being there for all of 7 hours, "staying." the staff are exceptionally dim and indifferent, the lights were burned out in the washroom and they couldn't be bothered to fix it. we were in a stuffy, smelly room with a bunch of drunken yahoos. We checked in at midnight, and at 7 am, demanded a refund and found a better place to stay.

Great location, clean nieghborhood, clean rooms, good prices, cheap internet connection. This was the hostel my friends and I stayed at when we back packed through Europe. I've stayed in many hostels but this was definitely the best one.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The common area was great, they had a computer (with free printing) and a projector with roku hooked up. The hostel also put on several events. I booked through hostelworld.com, which made making a reservation very easy. Unfortunately, I was placed on the 5th floor and the building didn't have air conditioning, so it was extremely hot. The sheets were thread barren and the pillow was flat.

This particular group of five freindly hostels are located in various parts of London and are really nice to stay in especially if you don't have a lot of money to spend on expensive hotels. Other than having all the usual amenities that accompany a place like this travellers can get a free breakfast and the benefits of two late night hostel bars and cold beers everywhere.

cool hostel! You can find a lot of guys and the stuff is nice. Central location, everything worked nice for me. Well the mixed dormitory was a little bit noisy. Good prices.

Freaking awesome. People are wonderful, perfectly located 2 blocks (walking distance) from the Victoria Train Station. From there you can take a bus to Paris, France, or simply the tube to ANYWHERE in London you want. Great bunks and great food. I have been here a total of 3 times and I am from the USA. You cannot get better than this place in London. Great prices. 10 our of 5 if I could. I love it.
