Astoria Veg Restaurant serves good tasty and fresh vegetarian food dishes with good quality and affordable prices. The ambiance is pleasant and the service is also fast and polite. We ordered two meals which is 160 only (unlimited rice). However, the prices other items are a bit on the higher side for the quantity served is comparatively less. It’s located just opposite of the bus stand and easily accessible. Still, it’s a nice spot if you want delicious vegetarian food and a good dining experience.

The food was tasty and neat. But one of the suppliers there was very annoying. He acted as if we were there to eat for free. In the end, when he brought the bill, he asked (order) me how much tip to add to the bill without a pleasant face. Even then, I was eating. He didn't let me finish eating, he kept talking about his tip. He kept bothering me. I didn't complain to the hotel management only because he was an old man. But I won't be going to that restaurant again. I usually always tip the suppliers at any restaurant I go to. I didn't tip him only because of his disgusting behavior. Have any of you who are reading my comment had a similar experience at this restaurant?

Very bad experience for non locals and tourists! The entire staff was heavily biased and rude to us, they looked at us and responded with such demeaning looks, felt very uncomfortable. They kept us waiting for the restaurant and didn’t even allow us to use rest room while the locals were provided seats in 2 minutes time. The waiters rudely told us to sit on shared table when we were sitting separately so they could give seats to the locals. Again, the waiters barely answered our calls to order and kept us waiting while the other locals, even those who entered after us, were getting served. At last when they finally tried to take our order, the waiter didn’t listen our complete order and went away to serve another customer. Such a partiality and bias, and a shameful way to treat guests who are not from the region. No quality of food can justify this behaviour.

We had an amazing stay at ASTORIA hotel. The rooms were recently renovated 2 months ago and had all the look, feel and amenities of a 3/5 star hotel. I don't think many people know that there are rooms above the veg restaurant. We got the room for an unbelievable price, considering it was an off-season. Special mention to the manager Mr. Shiva and Mr. Abdul for hospitality and care.

had an excellent stay at Astoria Hotel in Kodaikanal! The location is absolutely perfect—just opposite the bus stand and very close to the lake and main attractions. The rooms were neat and comfortable, and the staff was courteous and helpful throughout our stay.||What stood out the most was the delicious vegetarian food at their restaurant. The South Indian thali was a highlight—fresh, flavorful, and very satisfying!||The hotel is great for families and budget travelers who want a clean, convenient place with good food and service. Highly recommend it, and I’ll definitely be coming back!

Astoria has been our Kodaikanal home for years. The last time I came, about 2 years back, I was thinking it needed badly a revamp. Fast forward to September 2025, the magic touch had been made. It is a completely remodelled Astoria. Spick and span, thick new curtains, spotless toilet and screen between it and the bath ( refreshing indeed!), flooring, electronic door lock , well done interiors- and more than all, lift service. Beautiful. Astoria's food has always been top class ( i wish they would tell us the secret of those spongy idlies in such cold weather). I normally never eat biryani but theirs was just out of the world, just right, flavours mild and not pungent at all. Free breakfast with the bill has caught on here too though no buffet. Hope everyone has the good sense to return extras even before touching the plate. Servers are and have always been polite and helpful, and so has the manager. Some negatives- No room service. No desserts. Windows remain shut unless specifically asked for. The whole theme of bedding and towels is grey , white would be a better choice in towels . All in all though, an excellent experience and I woukd recommend this place, in the heart of Kodaikanal to anyone who likes to unwind in the heart of the town.

The food was very average and not at all North Indian in taste. The chapatti seemed like frozen ones and did not taste good. The vegetables and dal were also below average even the rice wasnt good. The service was good and we did not have to wait much but the food quality needs a lot of improvement.

Based on our recent dining experience, we cannot recommend this establishment for North Indian cuisine. The paneer and mushroom dishes did not meet our expectations in terms of taste and portion size relative to the price. Furthermore, the Kerala parathas were excessively thick.
